  1. Anyone have any familiarity with or insight into RTA's Citizen Advisory Board? I'd love to get more involved with the process as opposed to just bitching about my experiences on here and on social media. Is it worth submitting an application for? What's it like?
  2. C'man TPH2! RTA's the Best Transit System in North America and Joe Calabrese has the 2007 stickers to prove it (and some still are on bus windows ta boot). I pick up the E-line Trolley on W 6th every morning to get to work, and I can't help but chuckle ever time I see those posters hanging on the RTA HQ windows.
  3. Gotta love RTA's communication. I was meeting someone for lunch at the Euclid Tavern so I figured that I'd take the Rapid from Tower City to E 120th. I'm sitting on the train about to get up to get off and it keeps going, right past E 120. I get off at Superior and check Twitter to see if there are any notifications from RTA and then hear the conductor yelling at me and the two Case students (coming back from break with their suitcases) that E 120 is closed and that we need to take the bus. I then walk to Euclid Ave and wait 18 minutes for a HeathLine to take me back to UC--normally not a huge deal, but I lost feeling for a bit in my ears and toes from the cold and wind. I later saw that RTA posted yesterday about the station being closed, but there was nothing posted again today. PLUS, a large number of Rapid riders don't have Facebook or Twitter. There was no sign at Tower City and even worse, no announcement from the conductor that the station was closed. Wouldn't be a huge deal, but this is just another instance in a long line of RTA incompetence that I've experinced since I moved back to Cleveland. Edit: Spelling
  4. Hot on Cleveland: Why so many travel publications, including the New York Times and Fodor's, love our city now http://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2015/01/hot_on_cleveland_why_so_many_t.html
  5. Great insight. Thank you, KJP! If nothing else, his rhetoric is at least inspiring. We'll see what happens, but I'm leaning a bit more on the optimistic side regarding this project.
  6. I obviously am familiar with Stark's WHD plans, but were there other times that plans of his never came to fruition? You all are making it sound like he's known to be a super flaky developer.
  7. Quite honestly, I'm surprised to hear Macy's was still open there. It's been about 4 years since I was last at that mall, and it seemed in bad shape then. I just assumed Macy's had long left.
  8. Oooh now that's interesting. What are the odds that the skywalk is actually being removed vs. that being an aesthetic choice for the rendering? My big money is on that it was just an artistic decision for the renderings
  9. It's a Cristo Rey Catholic high school, currently on Lausche Ave. The school has been around for 10 years or so
  10. Well, besides this.... I wonder when we'll see the day that American sports teams start selling naming rights to the teams. Like the "Sherwin-Williams Indians", instead of the "Cleveland Indians"
  11. I was told February 22nd by someone at Heinen's Corporate.

Bump. Sorry for dropping the ball on this after bringing up the suggestion...but things always get crazy around the holidays. Anyone up for beers some night this week or next? Or this weekend? Or maybe lunch next Tuesday (1/13)? I liked KJP's suggestion of Al's in 1717, I still haven't been there.
  13. I enjoy positive press and people saying nice things about the city, but writing a story headline that includes a reference to Cleveland as a "perfect city" makes me roll my eyes. I'd be curious if someone living at E. 55th and Scovill would say that Cleveland is a "prefect city."
  14. Were late night rail ridership numbers ever released from New Years Eve last year? I applaud RTA for their 24 hour service, but am curious as to how many people actually utilize it.
  15. Whether or not we like to admit it, this is exactly right. Not to mention having to pay a $2.25 fare, since said people also are unlikely to have RTA farecards. I've suggested taking the Rapid/bus to OHC from downtown many times, and quite often someone in the group offers to pay for an Uber themselves to avoid doing that.
  16. Until (and if) Baltimore builds its LRT Red Line subway through downtown, Little Italy and Fells Point, Cleveland's downtown and close in hot spots are considerably better connected than B-More's -- hot areas like Fells Point and Federal Hill have no rail service at all, with the latter not scheduled to get any anytime soon... I do think some kind of reestablishment of a community circulator and/or trolley service connecting OC and Tremont could be useful, as the oft-infrequent #81 bus, alone, is not a viable alternative for such a popular neighborhood. (RTA might be wise to divert some of those W. 25-southbound buses over to Tremont then reconnecting with W. 25 southbound at, say, Clark Ave). ... but the trolley should NOT go all the way downtown; only between Ohio City/Market Square and Tremont, only. I'm tired of RTA constantly duplicating viable rail service with buses (ie Trolleys to the Rock Hall when the WFL is right there)... Ohio City is a major transit hub in itself. I get the concerns about that, but getting from downtown to Ohio City via transit is still far from intuitive and not very convenient for the casual transit rider.
  17. There was a lot more that went into turning around that store than just that promo
  18. Hopefully they'll diverge from the standard 8am-8:30pm (8am-6pm on Sunday) hours. I'd like to see a 10pm closing time, if not later.
  19. At the risk of taking this off topic: I think a trolley is a good idea. Yes, there are many buses that go across to OHC, but unless you have a weekly or monthly fare card, it's hard to justify paying $2.25 for a one way trip from downtown just across the river. I live in the WHD, and every time we go to OHC, everyone insists on taking an Uber as opposed to the 26, 20, 22, etc, etc. Same goes for the Rapid. It could also connect to Tremont which is virtually impossible to easily access via RTA. I think of Baltimore whose Charm City Circulator goes all the way out to Fells Point, down to Federal Hill, and up to Mt. Vernon, all with no fare. I think it would be advantageous to do the same in Cleveland.
  20. Stop worrying. The target opening date is February 22nd. And Heinen's isn't going to expect to make money on this store right away. The Hudson stores went in the red for years before it became profitable and I'm not sure the Chicago stores are even at that point yet. The profit margins for grocery stores are very thin, and so they know that being successful is a long process. It's going to take some time, perhaps years, but it will be successful and they have the patience to wait it out.
  21. http://skorasaurus.github.io/dtparking should be current with all parking lots that are available to the public. It doesn't have lot ownership, but I'd like to add that one day... With some simple math, could also guess on the sq. footage of the map as well with it. (down at the moment, it'll be back in a few hours). That's the first time I've ever cringed from seeing a large amount of the color green on a map
  22. I'd be surprised. But the tunnels are really only under the footprint of the monument, so it's not an extensive system under the square as a whole. I also don't think that any of the major utilities that run under the square come into close proximity of the tunnels.
  23. I don't have the source handy, but I know for sure that Litt mentioned in one of his articles that it would likely be a 500+ foot tower
  24. I can try later but I think this will fill in the gap between Key/200PS and Terminal Tower from I77 north (one of my favorite views aside from that gap). Based up my high tech and in-depth analysis using Paint, it looks like it will almost blend into view with 200 PS as opposed to filling the gap, unfortunately. Blue=view of Terminal Tower; Red=view of 200 PS; Orange=view of nuCLEus tower
  25. Cleveland Makes Fodor's 2015 Go List http://www.fodors.com/news/photos/fodors-go-list-2015#!20-cleveland Yeah, nbd. Just listed with the likes of Norway, Barbados, Paris, Jackson Hole, Singapore, and Melbourne...
