Cleveland: Downtown: Progressive Field
If in fact they can remove seats, however increase revenue by adding to the fan experience, I don't see why it should be an issue. I'm all for this. Fan viewing expectations have changed in recent years. Right. I'm not sure why this would be viewed as a concern. How many games per season in the past 10 years has the attendance gone over 37K? In the last two years, it's only happened five times (including the Wild Card playoff game and the two home openers).

Cleveland: Downtown: Progressive Field
From yesterday-- some thoughts from Gateway board members on the renovations. Apparently they have concerns about making sure the Feller statue remains in a public space outside the gates of the park and whether it's fair to eliminate seats from a publicly financed facility. http://www.cleveland.com/naymik/index.ssf/2014/08/progressive_field_and_quicken.html

So, what happened with these hotel plans? From the way the articles were written, it sounds like it was pretty much a done deal

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
I concur, this is not only ridiculous, it's dangerous -- if you (or any passenger) was hit by a car or any other vehicle while making this "transfer", RTA most assuredly would be liable. If the regular HL buses can't be operated, then RTA should shut down the platforms completely and post boarding signs at curbside until all the regular HL buses are fixed. This mixing and matching incompatible buses to the BRT corridor is clearly not the answer. This sounds confusing and dangerous for regular RTA riders, so I can only imagine the confusion it would cause visitors using the system, and the poor experience it would create. Exactly. As a regular reader of this forum, I of course knew what was happening. But I played dumb as if I was a tourist or new RTA rider. It would have been extremely confusing (as if the RTA system isn't confusing enough for non-locals already).

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Why is it that RTA has not activated this system? And how are the new articulated buses that do not have doors on both sides operating on the Healthline? Driving home I noticed one of those buses at Euclid and E107 and it clearly said healthline. Just curious how that works with the downtown platforms. It doesn't "work" with the downtown platforms. Last week I was waiting for a HL bus at E. 6th St, and one of the new buses approached. The bus stopped on the curb opposite the station, and I was given no indication as to what I should do. I had to jump off the platform, cross the street, and enter the bus from the sidewalk curb. It was ridiculous.

Cleveland: 2014 Gay Games IX News & Discussion
Quite honestly, because most people don't care. There isn't really a standard for athletic competition for the GG, so it's not like it's bringing together world renowned athletes. Yes, the actual sporting events are an important part of the games, but the cultural aspect of it is much more significant. Actually you are wrong. This is a fact I learned at the Chicago games in 2006. In some Olympic level sports, there are gay Olympians. Most are out some are not. There is a particular sport, not very popular in the states but popular in Europe, where the the best/top ranked competitors are gay. These top ranked people compete in the GG, so the non gay competitors compete just so that they can compete against the best. For instance the diving competition garnered a lot of attention due to so many current divers coming out. This is a sporting competition, not a rave or circuit party. No, I'm not wrong. I did not say that there are no high caliber athletes performing at the Gay Games. The vast majority of the athletes though are not Olympians. I can't blame the local media for not giving significant coverage to the results of the sporting events themselves. If the PD published the results of each event, I was reading through it, I would have no idea who any of the people were. The masses only care about sports when it is the best athletes playing against each other. Just in the same way that the media never covered the results of my college's division III football team. That's not to say I'm criticizing the Gay Games. I think it's a great event and I've enjoyed them being in Cleveland over the last week. I also hope that it can put us on the map as a destination for more LGBT people.

I always thought Progressive Field should have more, so I'm glad they're adding some. In Baltimore, for example, they have a statue for every player whose number has been retired. They're all placed together behind left center field. I think it looks pretty neat

I generally agree with most things that Angie says, but she makes her arguments in such a combative way that it alienates most of the audience. She's not doing her cause any good by being an advocate for it.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Is it really worth investing millions of dollars to relocate an existing rail line that is already a 1/4 mile - 1/2 mile away from the destinations? I think thats an acceptable distance. There obviously needs to be better connectivity to the WFL, but I feel like advocating for complete relocation is a waste of energy.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Some type of moss or grass that is low maintenance. Actually.... I was paying attention to the walls along the Red Line during my ride in today from West 117th and those walls are covered extensively with vegetation already. Maybe help nature finish the job.... I think what people are saying is its not a pretty ride. If the walls were cement, and clean it wouldn't seem as though you riding thru an industrial waste land. Right at brookpark, train yard, it looks pretty bad. Although I think the Cleveland Rapid tracks are "nicer" than the Shaker Rapid. "Although I think the [Red Line] tracks are "nicer" than the [Green/Blue Lines]" Really dating yourself there, MTS. Some of us younger people may be confused what you're talking about.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Unless each train station in the entire system has a token booth and a no paid zone and paid fare zone, this will not work on the Shaker Rapid. As I always say, there is room for improvement, but historical, from downtown going East, you pay upon boarding the Shaker Rapid. from the Eastern terminals going West, you pay upon exiting. Back in the day, all stations from Shaker Square westbound, were considered "express" and the stations east of Shaker Square were "local" and there were two different fares. [i remember when the fare was local -25¢/express-35¢ and then it jump to 60/75¢ when I entered Shaker] If you boarded a train at Lee Road and exited at Coventry, that was considered a "local" fare. If you boarded a train at Lee Road and exited at 116, that was considered an "express" fare. Eastbound, you paid when you boarded so, if you boarded a train at any "express" stop you paid the express fair, regardless of where you were going to exit. If you boarded at any station east of Shaker Square you paid the "local" fare. Due to the Shaker Rapids layout, only the stations stations west of Shaker Square can be modified to provide a place to have turnstiles and where a toll booth clerk can watch both the eastbound and westbound platforms. Im not sure how the fare payment system can be modified to mimic the HL on the Shaker Rapid and be effective, so that RTA does not lose revenue. Every other light rail system I have ever been on uses proof-of-payment, exactly like the Red Line. There's no reason that can't be implemented on the Blue/Green Lines. I doubt that there would be significant revenue loss from that. What systems? Are they NEW BUILD systems not a light rail system that is half express half street car. I don't think P-O-P will work on the Shaker Rapid or RTA would have already implemented this on Shaker portion of the system. The system I use most frequently is the Baltimore Light Rail. It runs like a streetcar downtown but as a light rail system in the north and south suburbs. They have two ticket machines at each of the stations at which you can buy a ticket. It's complete POP just like the Red Line. Logistically, it is no different than the Green/Blue Lines, which is why I'm confident in saying that there's no reason it can't be done in Cleveland

What Would You Re-Name the Cleveland Indians?
There's nothing wrong with the name "Indians" nor with Chief Wahoo. Everyone just needs to get over themselves. I'd like to see an example of someone being racist against an American Indian or causing harm to one because of Chief Wahoo. When I see Wahoo, I think of one thing and one thing only: the baseball club in Cleveland
