  1. I'm embarrassed to say that I've never actually been to Sterle's. Last time I was in Cleveland I drove down St. Clair and thought how great it would be if they developed the area around 55th. Glad to see there is some movement on that.

Oh nice. I went to three of the four games, of course the one I didn't go to was the one in which we won 9-0
  3. Good stuff. The link didn't work for me though. Here's a better url: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/cleak-metropolitan-at-the-9-autograph-collection/

Watching the Tribe from beautiful Oriole Park at Camden Yards
  5. I've been enjoying seeing your pictures lately, so please keep posting them! With respect to the skywalk, I think I'm in the minority when I say I don't really hate it. Especially now that it's been touched up. I think it adds a neat visual element to the city scape. I feel the same way about the Horseshoe skywalk.
  6. Agreed. PaulI, what kind of camera are you using? Or do you touch them up before posting? Just curious

  8. That's because they were renovated in 2007. The Red Line cars are just now getting renovated. See my photos from December of the first Red Line car to be renovated.... http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=4504.msg687211#msg687211 I also think the Red Line cars probably looked old when they were new. They have that Welcome Back Kotter vibe to them.... ;) I've never liked the Red Line Tokyu car interior. I agree with DM4, I was rather disappointed when I saw what the renovated cars look like. It's a big improvement, but it still doesn't have a comfortable feel. Here is what Baltimore's look like: This was after their rehab in 2002-05 and I think it is much more functional and visually appealing than RTA's cars.
  9. I thought DC Metro finally retired those old '76ers... Nope. The NTSB told them to after the 2009 crash happened, but they haven't yet.
  10. How big of a concern is this? I am completely unfamiliar with any of this, but i'm just wondering how many transit systems are currently using cars older than 40 years/past their life? DC's Metro is using cars from 1976 still, in addition to cars from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. But they also have over 1,000 cars in the system and most of their older cars will be replaced with a new series starting this year. They started the process of getting the new cars over six years ago. This is different from RTA in that the entire fleet of rail cars on each line came from the same time period. Baltimore's Metro Subway has cars that are mostly older than the Red Line's (1983), and they were rehabbed about 10 years ago. I believe the state of Maryland recently passed a transportation bill that included appropriations for replacing the subway rolling stock
  11. Here's the link to the live stream of VPOTUS's talk in Cleveland about public transit: http://t.co/gzewNz8zcM Nice backdrop of the Red and Green/Blue Line cars
  12. Interesting, I haven't seen that before. What city was that in?
  13. "TAG Bar will be located on the casino's second floor at the skywalk entrance, which has become the casino's main entrance" That damn skywalk...
  14. Homeland Security has procedures in place. Now, it doesn't seem that they can be enforced that easily though... http://www.ohiobass.org/Forms/RecreationalVessels3.pdf
  15. I was just about to ask about the significance of the signal flags. Very nice

Made a special stop when I was in Brooklyn last weekend
  17. Does anyone have any old photos (or have a link to old photos) of PHS when the theaters were in a state of disrepair? I feel like I've seen every picture ever posted on this forum over the last 10 years, but I don't ever recall seeing any of the theaters at the time they were slated for demolition.
  18. The public housing project at Irishtown Bend, just north of Rt. 2
  19. Great pictures. You captured some pretty unique angles with many of your shots. I must say though, this is debatable. A portion of Cincy's metro area goes into Indiana and Kentucky, thus Cleveland actually has the largest metro IN the state of Ohio. Being a native Clevelander, I of course have to bring this up... ;)
  20. Wow, I love that Federal style brick house. I wish a lot more of Cleveland's infill housing looked like that.
  21. Running a streetcar into Shaker Sq., an area served by the frequent high speed Blue/Green lines doesn't seem palatable to me... But it is weird that this densely populated significant apartment area has no 24-hour transit service. Once the Rapid and the 11 shut down, at around 12:30p, that's it until around 5a. Doesn't make a lot of sense. I think it's more the rule than the exception to not have 24-hour transit service, is it not? Most densely populated areas down here in DC don't even have 24-hour service.

From Urban Scale, "How Your City Can Succeed In Transit Oriented Development" http://urbanscale.com/blog/how-your-city-can-succeed-in-transit-oriented-development/ The article highlights the 5 top US metro regions for TOD. And coming in at #5? You guessed it, Cleveland, Ohio! I was definitely shocked to see us make this list. Of course the paragraph focused mainly on the HealthLine.
  23. Great, as always, Mayday. I'm not gonna lie, I actually really like the look of the skywalk at the casino.
  24. Is this really true? I see from the schedule that the buses run about every 7 minutes most of the day. We have large swatches of Euclid throughout midtown that are either vacant or underdeveloped. Where does the Healthline go from where it is (if it's currently nearing its peak capacity) if midtown ever gets on its feet? Conversion to LRT?
  25. What happened to the signage that used to be on the Green/Blue Line trains that explained how the fare collection worked? Years ago I recall seeing signs on the trains that essentially said "Westbound- Pay when exiting; Eastbound- Pay when entering." Last time I was in town and rode the Rapid, I did not see any such signs anywhere. My entire trip, I tried viewing everything with the perspective of someone who has never ridden the Rapid before, and my thought was that I would have no clue what to do.
