Columbus: General Transit Thread
That sounds like a great route, but it also seems like a pretty long route. The longer the better in my opinion, but I would think the longer a first phase is the harder it would be to sell. ^ I dunno about that. A frequent criticism of Cincinnati's route was that it was too short. It wan't, really; it's about average for a first phase. But the opponents really worked that angle. Of course, when MetroMoves was on the Hamilton County ballot in 2002 -- sixty miles of LRT and streetcar -- the same opponents said it was too ambitious. Yeah, I suppose there is a large group of streetcar opponents who will find something to criticize about any plan. The streetcar could print money but they would complain that track might damage their car's tires or something else completely made up.

Columbus: Italian Village: Jeffrey Park Development
Eridony replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionBattery B looks to be about done on the outside. It also looks like each end has a blank area of concrete with lights installed to display murals or some kind of artwork like was shown in the project renderings.

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
Another conversion of an old industrial building in Franklinton. I saw the roof being replaced when I was down there 2 weeks ago and was wondering what was going on there. More Artist Studio Space Coming to Franklinton Not much info in the article. Not even an estimated completion date, but I did like the last paragraph.

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
It's been done for a while, but I don't think pictures were ever posted here of the completed Franklin Station project.

Columbus: Scioto Mile Riverfront Park News
It looks like we are starting to see the new permanent river banks take shape.

Goldconda/Elizabethtown/Cave-In-Rock, Illinois
Funny thing is I didn't know exactly where the Cave was when I was there and didn't care much about finding it. Of course later I looked at a map and saw how close I was. I should have went, but that's what happens when I go places without researching first. I visited Cairo a few times in the year I lived in SE Missouri. By the time I first visited most of downtown had been demolished and on each visit more and more was gone.

I was in DC a couple of months after you and got a lot of photos, but you had better weather! So much to see there.

I had missed that info about Delaware County demolishing the Elks Building for a new court building. Very disappointing.

Annexation and City Size 1950-2010
Nice link, thanks. I added up all the annexations since 2010, and it represents about 492.1 acres, or only 0.769 square miles. So the city's on pace to add less than 2 square miles this decade. This would be about what was added during the 1940s before major annexation began. The slow growth should also help density jump up. If this continues, I would expect density for the city to be between 4,300-4,500/ppsm. Good analysis. Of those acres added 316.32 were in two annexations in 2011. I think for Scioto Downs and the casino. We may not see anymore annexations of that scale for the rest of the decade. The decade could end with Columbus only adding a single square mile or less!

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
Eridony replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionLast week when I walked by the LC RiverSouth site there was actually a full crew of construction workers there. I had never seen more than 1 or 2 on the site before. It looks like a crane will be going up soon (or already has?). A couple of shots from last Monday.

Annexation and City Size 1950-2010
Franklin County has a page for annexations here: http://development.franklincountyohio.gov/planning/annexations/recent-annexations.cfm I don't know if all of 2014 has been updated, but it looks like last year was the least number of annexations in recent history. I was also surprised to see the City of Columbus gave up 27 acres to its suburbs in 2013.

Damn I love that arcade building!

Cleveland in the 1990s
I love these! It's weird how few good quality images of cities from the 90s are online. Most pictures are either after digital photography became popular or century old historical photos, but I guess the 90s is still too recent.

Cincinnati: Kroger
Cool! Still seems like they have a lot of surface parking though. I suppose they couldn't meet their parking needs without at least 2 parking levels.

Columbus: Downtown: Canopy by Hilton
The renderings for the new hotel have been released. I don't know how to hotlink images from other sites, but there are 2 renderings on Columbus Underground. Renderings Unveiled for New 12-Story Downtown Hotel When I saw the first rendering I thought it looked alright, but the second rendering turned me off. There is a large blank space on the side of the tower and the whole thing is just too plain. Hopefully they will improve on the design.

Upper Arlington: Developments and News
Eridony replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionKroger bought the building. Plans hazy as Kroger buys Macy’s at Kingsdale If anyone hasn't seen this Macy's is has an interesting look. Here is a picture I took of it last winter. Kingsdale Shopping Center Macy's by Eridony, on Flickr I suppose it will likely be demolished though. The article doesn't sound like Kroger is interested in the building itself.
