Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Be careful how much support you voice for moving these festivals to the Banks. As we all know, any good idea touted by streetcar supporters, no matter what, will be a no-go for the Mayor. It's not the ideas he dislikes; it's the people who present the ideas.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
brian korte replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionLast I heard there were plans to include building an underground garage at Cutter playground (next to old-SCPA to-be Alumni Lofts apartments), redevelop Ziegler Park and build new construction in the lots along Sycamore and 14th. That's why the price tag is so high.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
The City Manager actually reports to the Council and Mayor. Not only that, but the Mayor is the only person who can initiate the firing of the City Manager. So essentially, even if 5 (or 6 or 7 etc) members of Council are upset that the City Manager isn't following their direction via a Motion, they are powerless to do anything but whine in public about it. Granted, it isn't smart to upset half of the folks to which you "report," but in practice the only person the Manager needs to keep happy is the Mayor.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
From my understanding of Paul Grether's presentation to Council yesterday the discrepancy is in thinking about it as 3,000 unique riders per day versus 3,000 rides per day. Since the $1 ticket you purchase is good for two hours on the streetcar, I might ride from the Banks to Findlay, to Findlay to the Square, and to the Square back to the Banks all within my two hours, but I'll still only have paid the initial $1 fare, not $3. I could be mistaken but I think that's the gist of the argument as to why the projections are lower. It has nothing to do with ridership levels and more to do with update fare structure.

I went on an Artworks Mural Tour today (and you should, too: http://www.artworkscincinnati.org/public-art/mural-tours/) and I can definitively say that they are working on an Ezzard Charles mural and it will happen.

brian korte replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionThey're moving their office from Stark Street to there to get some more space. Nice. I really think there's a good deal of potential on Central Parkway for businesses with how close it is to the core and the highway, the bikeway, Brighton historic district, and the frequent traffic of folks going downtown from Northside, College Hill, etc.

brian korte replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI almost think we need a new thread for Grandin Properties projects in OTR. The Planning Commission during their upcoming April 3 meeting will discuss the lease of the city-owned property at 124-128 W. Liberty St to Grandin Properties so the developer can apply for state historic tax credits. The current plan is to rehab the building into 7 residential units and 2 commercial spaces. http://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/planning/about-city-planning-buildings/city-planning-commission/apr-4-2015-packet/

There were a couple new streetcar motions (and a statement) introduced to be heard in the Transportation Committee: MOTION, dated 3/25/2015 submitted by Mayor John Cranley, Vice Mayor Mann, Councilmembers Seelbach and Young, WE MOVE that SORTA be directed to pursue only management contract proposals in response to their RFP, consistent with the draft MOU between ATU and SORTA (copy attached), for review and consent through the Streetcar budget approval process set forth in the Operations and Maintenance Intergovernmental Agreement. MOTION, dated 3/24/2015 submitted by Mayor John Cranley, Councilmembers Amy Murray and Kevin Flynn, EXPRESSING the Mayor's intent to veto, and sufficient City Council support to sustain such veto, any streetcar operating plan that utilizes sources other than those identified in the Comprehensive Streetcar Operating Plan (Council item #201401368) and particularly any plan that uses General Fund resources other than the $1,500,000 in incremental parking meter revenue pledged by the Comprehensive Streetcar Operating Plan. BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the City of Cincinnati, State of Ohio: No additional resources will be appropriated toward the Operations and Maintenance of the Cincinnati Streetcar Project beyond the previously established Plan. Cincinnati: Random Development and News
brian korte replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI don't think that's true. The "parking lot" mentioned in Wetterich's article could be the driveway with parking spaces on the side of the building and the parking spaces behind. The Central Parking lot next to the building has a different owner according to the Auditor's site. It looks like you're right. The auditor's parcel pictures make it pretty confusing.

brian korte replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionThanks. Unfortunately my detective work is limited to projects that receive some sort of public subsidy and/or works its way through public documents (not permits). Though for Cincinnati right now that's a large percentage of the construction projects!
