The Washington Commanders announced yesterday that they have a deal to build a new dome in D.C., a few miles down the road from the U.S. Capitol. That stadium would be scheduled to open in 2030, so furthest east might never happen, or maybe we could hold that title for a year.

Completely agree, Ethan. I know several people who moved out of Cleveland because regular travel for their jobs meant they needed an airport with more nonstop destinations. When we get our remote workforce together in Cleveland a few times per year, at least half of the group has to connect somewhere. The airport has often touted "charging the airlines" for capital improvements, but that basically serves as a barrier to flight expansion by increasing prices and making route expansion more risky for airlines.

I think people lose sight of how far off we are from cities with more prosperous urban economies and neighborhoods. National retailers are pretty dang good at understanding where their stores will be viable. If TJ's passed on the Lucky's site then I think a TJ's anywhere in city limits is a pipe dream for the foreseeable future. I wonder if our outgoing council member still thinks there is a surplus of "luxury housing" in this area when the only tenant we can find for a commercial property in the middle of the neighborhood is a thrift store.

I just hope we get someone who does not obstruct new development to replace McCormack because that new ward covers probably 75% of the land in the city that has near-term potential for market rate new housing.

I had been annoyed at every other city in the midwest getting a MJ Lenderman show with no CLE dates, but looks like that is solved! Will be interesting to see what this looks like.

I do at least appreciate that she is leaving and not appointing a replacement/successor. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see them use her resignation as an easy way out in the redistricting. and chop Ward 15 into pieces for the existing Council members in surrounding wards.

I have no confidence that the Haslams have the vision or competence to complete an urban format stadium development. I believe they are simply interested in increasing revenues by controlling the parking. An extra 1-3 events per year from a Dome is just gravy.

I'll admit I'm pleasantly surprised by the renderings. The timeline does seem crazy. I have much greater hopes for the riverfront over the next 25 years than I do the lakefront. Now we just need to accelerate the housing development surrounding these great future parks!

I read it as Slife pushing back against the obvious tactics from the gas station builder to exploit the public comment process... not sure where you are seeing suggestions of a kick-back.

I'm sure I'm missing a few, but plenty of opportunities out there ranging from vacant lots to vacant pharmacies to dilapidated dollar stores, c-stores, and Subways. If you add the sections bordering Lake Ave + the lots near the HS on Detroit, there might be as much undeveloped land as there is developed land in wider Detroit Shoreway.

I know it's not an urbanist's dream, but it's definitely a blow to the NWS. I guess everyone has to go to one of the pharmacies on W 117th now. I wonder if there is any chance Discount Drug Mart would move in? I think their stores are normally bigger, but that would be a massively convenient addition to the area.

Thanks for finding the official doc... I am actually pleasantly surprised by the higher end of the range, though I am not sure what the expectations are for where most residents will fall within this range.

I still cringe at the 30-80% AMI range. Based on my understanding of the extremely-low median income in our city, someone could walk 100 yards up Detroit from this development to the McDonalds, hold a job there for a year, and then make too much money to qualify for this housing. I wish they had targeted a wider economic range.

Cincinnati had designs on MLS from Day 1. (Cincy does not have a NBA team, so a 3rd "big league" team is an easier sell.) They also had a more reasonable temp stadium in UC's Stadium... Browns Stadium would probably be way too big and expensive, and everything else in the region is too small or barebones. NWSL is the real prize here and any posturing from MLS Next execs is laughable... it's essentially the Cape Cod League but with smaller/zero crowds.

A billion dollars so ~5-10 bars can rake in cash for 4 hours on 10 days/year is not a good trade.

The more I think about it, the more I am on Team Brookpark. If NFL stadiums were great drivers of economic activity, there would be a lot more examples of them doing just that across the country, and I just don't see it. And no, a "stadium village" with a few sports bars doesn't count. If downtown is relying on 10 (at most) well-attended Browns Stadium events per year to survive, then it's not worth trying to save that version of downtown IMO. Moving the stadium off the lake will provide an opportunity to do SOMETHING there that might build a healthier, more sustainable downtown long-term. It will also hurt the parking lot owners the most, and I think we can all get behind that.

My thoughts as well. It would make me sad to see the Browns outside of Cleveland as I would attend far fewer (if any) games, but I'm not convinced that it actually makes sense for them to be downtown or on the lakefront.

I also like the idea of getting big HS sports a home in the city. Never made sense to me that St. Ignatius plays its home football games in Parma. I think a well-planned stadium could have lots of different events 9 months/year.

Am I crazy, or does living across an interstate highway from the lake remove a lot of the attractiveness of this site for residential? It is disconnected in the same way as the Shoreline Apts, without actually being on the water.

Flying nonstop on Frontier is a lot better than connecting on a "full-service" airline IMO. Hopefully this will help us lock down more consistent flights to some places that have been on/off in recent years. (NOLA, SD, SLC, etc.)

It's not a marvel, but I'll take it. Breakwater is not the most visible address in Cleveland, and this would be 250+ new people in the neighborhood. I am curious if there are plans to cut a clearing through to Herman Park, or if there will still be woods in between?
