Interesting nugget there, not sure what that can mean as relating to the Cavs, but would be interested in a timely Bedrock bomb.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Cuyahoga estimated to have grown in population, which the estimates are never favorable until the decennial census, good news. I’m sure the immigration restrictions will change Ohios fortunes for the worse regarding population in the near future.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
There’s a huge lack of familiarity with the train system in Cleveland. On numerous occasions, I have directed people to take the train to the airport (which they did not know was an option previously) and were thrilled to have done so. I don’t think safety was an issue for them.

Maybe SW is announcing a purchase of PPG. Reddit rumors in q4 from workers within the company are expecting a sale. But who knows could be completely baseless.

@AsDustinFoxWouldSay Honestly you have the most doom and gloom takes time after time, and your post provides zero substance reflecting the actual landscape of our downtown/city versus others. It remains the largest cbd in Ohio. In comparison, my hometown of Pittsburgh has a downtown that’s in bad shape and with a BNY Mellon building that’s nearly empty. So much so the governor is stepping in to provide stimulus there. And these comments come on the heels of complete conjecture espoused from an excitable CEO. I very much appreciate KJPs reporting but there is nothing to suggest that Gonclaves is seriously thinking of moving the company. Cleveland has been on a tremendous roll with acquisitions and bringing companies here since before the pandemic. Parker Hannifin, Park Ohio, Cliffs, Sherwin Williams, list goes on and on. The data supports that downtown CLE has had one of the best pandemic recoveries so let’s please make an earnest effort to be factual.

Cleveland: Cleveland-Cliffs
They just signed a 10 year lease at 200 Public Square. This is all posturing. They moved all the AK steel employees here if memory serves correctly. US steel lost its brand appeal decades ago. While its uneasy to hear him say this, I can’t imagine him uprooting 1000s of employees in CLE.

Gonclaves can be bombastic, I would imagine this is to endear himself to US steel employees. I would be shocked if he moved there.

Cleveland: Population Trends
Outstanding population growth in Ohio (historically speaking) 60k gain pushes the state ever closer to 12 million.

Cleveland: Scranton Peninsula: Development and News
So q1 QCEW 2024 data has Cuyahoga County median wage at 79k+ per year. That is an 18k increase from 2019. 2k per month is only 30% of 79k which is within a reasonable percentage. Q2 was released recently but I’m not referencing those because it includes summer job hiring which drops the median wage significantly, whereas q1 is more representative of annual wage. This also puts Cuyahoga right behind Hamilton for highest in the state.

Numbers look good, need more workers, unemployment rate is much lower than other Ohio metro areas. https://ohiolmi.com map here has updated info for all Ohio counties

We know about East stokes tall apt building in the circle. We clamor for more, of the downtown skyline changing variety.

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
With all the momentum on Scranton Pennisula, I wish they could have put the stadium there. Under the river rail connection ( a la Pittsburgh). Pipe dream I know. But I think the skyline around tower city is gonna look a little different in the next 5-10 years and the views would have been incredible.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
@KJP I pulled those numbers off the BLS website. Those are the updated numbers via the "quarterly census of employment" publication which purports to be far more accurate than the monthly job publications which are often revised dramatically. Uncertain as to why such drastic revisions. Possible undercounting for years since Covid and especially given the older populations of Cleveland and Pittsburgh, maybe an overestimation of early retirees? I have no clue. Here are the imbedded links again illustrating the changes. https://data.bls.gov/cew/apps/table_maker/v4/table_maker.htm#type=3&year=2024&qtr=1&own=0&ind=10&supp=0 (2024 q1) https://data.bls.gov/cew/apps/table_maker/v4/table_maker.htm#type=3&year=2023&qtr=1&own=0&ind=10&supp=0 (2023 q1)

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Massive job estimate revisings occurring for metro areas. Quarterly job reports which are far more accurate than month to month have Cleveland CSA gaining 129k jobs year over year. 1,547,680 to 1,676,179 jobs q1 2023-q1 2024. this seems to acknowledge some undercounting. Massive jumps like this also occurred in Pittsburgh. Col. and Cincy achieved reasonable increases. MSA Cleveland 979,019 to 1,015,062 Again not monthly estimates so kind of bizarre. https://data.bls.gov/cew/apps/table_maker/v4/table_maker.htm#type=3&year=2024&qtr=1&own=0&ind=10&supp=0 https://data.bls.gov/cew/apps/table_maker/v4/table_maker.htm#type=3&year=2023&qtr=1&own=0&ind=10&supp=0

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Cleveland’s economy grew briskly in the 90s but that wasn’t a given at the start of the decade. In fact, we have more jobs than 1990 and cuyahoga county is finally gaining individuals 25-40 years (since 2010) which was not the case since before the 70s.

Cleveland: Population Trends
Franklin grew like gangbusters 2010-2020 in that 25-34 demographic. Cuyahoga had its largest growth 2010-2020 since the 1950s albeit a much smaller numeric growth than Franklin in the same time period.

Cleveland: Population Trends
In the coveted 25-34 yr old demographic, I found some nice recent data on growth in Ohio’s largest counties. https://ohiolmi.com/Home/CountyProfiles/Educational_Attainment Cuyahoga gained 6,000 2019-2021 (4,000 2020-2021) Franklin gained 1,000 2019-2021 (lost 2,000 2020-2021)

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
I thought overall Columbus lost almost 12k in domestic migration but when all three years are considered, it was minimal. Regardless, I think estimates are wildly off and job growth would indicate that all three cities are plugging along, especially Cincy and Columbus due to positive natural rate.
-
Cleveland: Population Trends
Census bureau estimates are out! Columbus and Cincy lead the way for growth again. Cleveland MSA static with a ~1700 person decrease. Big demographic issues for Cleveland is 3k negative natural decrease, so even though domestic migration was only -4K and international migration was larger leading to a positive migration number, the natural decrease led to overall decline. Not sure how to get out of that rut without substantial migration. This is even far more pronounced in Pittsburgh where the natural decrease is causing a demographic death spiral in the area.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Bank of America’s last report of internal data had Cleveland included and not Columbus but had similarly very positive population news. With this added glowing population numbers for Columbus, I would think Ohio is doing very well at the start of this decade. Roaring 20s in the 3 C’s
