  1. From the article you are referring to “Heartland Forward” of foreign born percent change. Big cities performed poorly. But we should wait to do any census analysis until the decennial numbers are released because we saw the estimates were wildly off. Especially in places like New York and Jersey.
  2. Yes, retractable roof.
  3. Saw a tweet today concerning the Indians lease at Progressive. The lease is expiring in 2023. Could the browns and Indians be pursuing a joint, domed stadium?
  4. According to latest commuting data, a higher percentage of Summit County workers commute to Cuyahoga than Stark commuters to Summit county. So one could say that Akron and Cleveland are actually slightly more blurred as a region. Furthermore, in terms of reliance, almost 15% of Summit residents go to Cuyahoga while only 3% of Cuyahoga residents work in Summit.
  5. Watching census news conference and not many seats being moved. 7 states will lose one seat (New York, Michigan, California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia). The states gaining are the following: ( Texas+2, and Colorado, Florida, Montana, North Carolina, Oregon all gaining one seat).

  7. Riverpoint in Chicago is 1,000,0000 sq ft, it would be a perfect fit on the square.
  8. “He said in an interview that the sale of the U.S. mills has been under consideration since last year, after executives concluded that the inability of the mills to use company-owned iron ore put them at a permanent disadvantage to U.S. competitors with their own ore supplies” ~WSJ Maybe having their own ore source will make plants more viable.
  9. Both the largest US steel and coatings company in the US will be based in Cleveland. Take that Pittsburgh, PPG and USX.
  10. If they move headquarters from Chicago, which they should, this will be a boon for Cleveland. AK-Steel purchase made this company a Fortune 500 company and this will certainly catapult them much higher.
  11. I think proposed development is very Houston med center-esque, but an improved version because it incorporates the residential aspect in addition to the existing jobs already present in University Circle. Whereas the Houston med center lacks residential options.
  12. Census bureau published new state population estimates yesterday. New York and Illinois continue their free fall. Ohio chugging along at low but steady growth. If memory serves me correctly, it appears that last years growth for Ohio was revised down. https://www2.census.gov/programs-surveys/popest/tables/2010-2019/state/totals/nst-est2019-01.xlsx?#
  13. Cleveland Cliffs, in terms of revenue, is a third the size of AK Steel. This is a small fish with giant profits taking over a big fish with small profit margin. This will catapult Cleveland Cliffs well into Fortune 500 list.
  14. Scrolling through the downtown Cleveland alliance website and their new “build it” icon I came across this graphic. 1 million square feet of office space? Seems suitable for a certain large downtown company?
  15. https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/poor-air-service-hobbles-sherwin-williams-hq-bid A lot of hot air, hopefully.
  16. If Cleveland gets an influx of illegal, or foreign and/or dirty money it too can have a skyline like Miami.

  18. The towers are dated and not financially salvageable at this point. Metro is hemorrhaging money keeping them open. Boutros is doing wonders for Metro. Beginning next year employees and their families will not pay a dime for any health service beyond their monthly healthcare premium.
  19. Interesting data I came across today. Circular Area Profiles has a cool function where one can determine the population from a particular city at a desired radius. Comparing Youngstown and Columbus from the city center and Youngstown remains larger at a 50 mile radius. Youngstown- 2,579,888 and Columbus - 2,425,855. Obviously with Columbus's explosive growth and Youngstown's continued decline these numbers will be quickly flipped, but are interesting nonetheless.
  20. If you look at the five year county estimates, which are stated to be more accurate than 1 year estimates, I think there will be a large revision upwards come 2020. Adding the recent 5 year estimates of counties in Cleveland MSA paints a much rosier picture. Here’s to hoping!
  21. Akron at 30 miles- 2,581,877 50 miles- 3,923,886 Those are huge numbers. Obviously this calls for a huge INTERNATIONAL airport for northern Ohio to be built north of the city with cool maglev connections so people in all 4 major areas of NEO could expediently arrive and depart the airport.
  22. So Cleveland gets a large reduction because of the lake. It would be interesting to see the data for Cleveland if the center was moved 5-10 miles south towards Akron. I would imagine numbers would be much higher and separate it from the other Ohio cities.
  23. According to Jones Lang Lasalle new Cleveland 2018 Skyline Report, One Cleveland Center is ten percent vacant. https://www.us.jll.com/content/dam/jll-com/documents/pdf/research/americas/us/JLL-2018-Cleveland-Skyline-report.pdf
  24. August numbers published: Cleveland 27k jobs year over year gain. Cleveland-Akron-Canton 35k jobs gained. http://ohiolmi.com/asp/CES/CES_GET.asp
  25. Hoping these numbers do not get revised downward in the coming months, but as of now Cleveland is having its most robust job expansion in seven years. It is also the best performing metro in Ohio as of June 2018. https://www.bls.gov/regions/midwest/oh_cleveland_msa.htm
