  1. In regards to the potential development of the Steve Barry Buick site, Bobby O's recently posted on their Facebook account that they will remain open until "at least July 1." I assume that means this property is no longer changing hands. If so, I am equally disappointed about any potential development falling though as I am about this establishment remaining open...
  2. Maybe I am misreading your comment, but are you implying that something is in the works at this location? I assume you mean the dumpy vacant parking lot on the northeast corner of Franklin and 32nd.
  3. Hmm, interesting take here...thanks ? Does anyone know if the city/developer settled on the mid-rise concept or the high-rise concept? I would think the mid-rise concept is better suited for this area and market.
  4. ^^^First I've heard of that publication, and wow, quite the peanut gallery of commenters on that website. Makes the cleveland.com comments sections seem boring and PC. Not sure I was able to get a level-headed take on the hospital closure, but certainly an interesting read...
  5. I hope I'm not opening a can of worms by asking this question, but can someone briefly explain the "controversy" behind the Lakewood Hospital closure? I was just moving into the neighborhood when it happened, so I didn't get all caught up in it. My assumption is that the hospital wasn't making money and CCF made a business decision to close it. With Fairview being less than 15 minutes from virtually anywhere in Lakewood I don't really see the problem from that standpoint.
  6. Bobby O's is still open. According to a comment on Facebook, they will remain open through the end of the year, if not longer. I wonder what's going on with the demo timeline.
  7. ^ Bobby O's is one of those places that, for whatever reason, seems to have people there 24/7. The Monday morning after St. Patrick's Day this year (which was on a Saturday), I saw a half dozen or so folks stumble out of Bobby O's still wearing their green attire. I can't say I will be disappointed that this joint will be replaced with (presumably) upscale condos, but to each their own I guess.
  8. Personally, I don't think restaurant patrons should get hung up on that sort of thing, but I'm always baffled when businesses choose to air a politically divisive channel/show. Why give your customers any reason to not like you?
  9. Whatever happened to the Steve Barry land? Did that sale close? I haven't seen a public announcement about it.
  10. Any update on the sale of the Steve Barry land? Per the county's website, it doesn't appear that anything has changed hands yet.
  11. I hope this means Wagar Park is next. The tennis courts are a disaster.
  12. ^Great update, KJP. Especially happy to hear the activity on the Steve Barry Buick land.
  13. Saw someone post this (on LinkedIn, of all places) and thought it was interesting. Interactive map showing planned, under construction, and completed projects downtown since 2012 or so. For whatever it's worth... https://jll.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=dd0ff16556ad46ec9f75d08a4349c04e
  14. ^^^ Thanks for the information KJP and others. I didn't realize the owners even had the land on the market, official or not. I, too, saw the office sale last week. I am hopeful this site can be developed at some point. This has now become my own personal "Jacobs' Lot" on Public Square as I live down the street.
  15. Also, does anybody know what is going on with the Steve Barry Buick dealership? From what I understand, they stopped selling cars over a year ago but they are still operating the maintenance shop. If that's the case, and there is no plan to go back into business, why not sell some of this land that is now empty parking lots? I haven't seen it listed, nor are there any signs on their property indicating the space is on the market. I have to think this is prime real estate as far as Lakewood goes.
  16. I haven't seen this posted anywhere. Outdoor beer garden proposed for the corner of Detroit and Edwards in western Lakewood. I like this and I'm especially glad to see development on one of the last truly "vacant" commercial lots in Lakewood (to my knowledge). http://www.cleveland19.com/story/38100344/plans-in-the-works-for-an-outdoor-beer-garden-in-lakewood
  17. This is supposedly going to be a Planet Fitness, right?
  18. Me too, but that was never going to happen. TG is an attraction and it will do fine in Independence. If nothing else, it will survive because of the serious lack of decent driving ranges within 30 minutes of downtown.
  19. I had to double-take when I saw this sign. How completely bizarre for development signage. I understand it's their land and they can do whatever they want (within reason), but wow... "Grab 'em by the %#[/member]&!" - Donald Trump. By the way, coming soon...the One West Twenty development!!! Strange.
  20. I posted the article in this thread earlier today.
  21. I, for one, am very excited about this and always have felt that this concept would work great in Cleveland. I thought at one point I read a rumor on this site that Topgolf was considering FEB Phase 3 for their NEO location, but frankly this makes more sense. Independence site eyed for year-round golf haven Topgolf, a year-round sports venue offering golfers what Corner Alley and Dave & Buster's gives bowlers and gamers, could add a location in Northeast Ohio if a proposed rezoning in Independence wins city approvals. Caroline Jerome, a Topgolf spokeswoman, said that at this time she can only confirm the Dallas-based company's interest in pursuing what she termed a "Cleveland-area location." No details will be available until later, she said. However, the agenda for the 5:30 p.m. meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 3, of the Independence Planning Commission shows a request to rezone almost 16 acres on Rockside Woods Boulevard to public use from office and laboratory use. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20180103/news/147321/independence-site-eyed-year-round-golf-haven?#utm_medium=email&utm_source=ccl-akronmorning&utm_campaign=ccl-akronmorning-20180104
  22. Hilliard Block building awarded historic tax credit for rehab project. Hilliard Block, 1415 W. Ninth St., Cleveland Total Project Cost: $2,226,750 Total Tax Credit: $250,000 The Hilliard Block dates back to 1849, and is one of the oldest buildings in Cleveland's Warehouse Historic District. Originally a grocery and dry goods store, the building was renovated into offices on the upper floors in the 1980s while retaining commercial space on the first floor. The rehabilitation project will convert the former office space to 18 apartments. The current first-floor tenant will remain in place. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20171219/news/146256/ohio-aid-remaking-old-buildings
  23. ^ It was entirely new construction. I lived in the building next door for a year and watched the demo and construction from the ground up. I lost my view of the lake but the abandoned bath house was hideous so I was glad to see it go.
  24. My wife works at MM. From what she has heard, if they were to buy their building it would be a long-term commitment to staying put. Apparently they are trying to work out a deal with BF by the end of September. This transaction is further complicated by the financial troubles of the seller that others have alluded to.
  25. I don't understand your comment to the conceptual plan? I'm guessing it's the massive parking lot fronting a highly visible section of Detroit Ave.
