Cincinnati: College Hill / Mt. Airy: Development and News
I was driving by yesterday to go look at a house a couple blocks away (that apparently already had an offer accepted before I looked!) and took a couple of quick pics of the progress at College Station. I was really hoping I'd have a chance at that house as I think the area will be insulated from any kind of housing downturn with all of the development going on.

Cincinnati: Lower / East / Price Hill: Development and News
I stumbled on a link to a Warsaw Ave Safety Project, similar to the one on Linn St. There's a section on the bottom to submit your preferences. I prefer option one as I think there needs to be some type of parking available if any businesses want to have a hope of success. As for the intersection changes. option C probably makes the most sense if you're closing off Seton Ave. Not sure that would be a good idea, though. Warsaw Ave Safety Project

That restaurant space on the end would be a good place for City BBQ to return to the westside.

Cincinnati City Council Corruption
This is nuts. After Pastor was arrested, I was talking with a friend who has a source that said 6 of 9 council members could be arrested and Sittenfeld was definitely one of them. I didn't believe it, but maybe he was right. I liked Sittenfeld, too bad.

Cincinnati: General Business & Economic News
That's disappointing. I think it's important to have at least a few cheap/fast food options downtown. I went there a few times and it seems like they always had a decent crowd.

I'm admittedly not a developer, but how do you make money back on that? I must be missing something here.

Cincinnati City Council gives Lower Price Hill affordable housing project the green light https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2020/10/14/council-gives-lower-price-hill-affordable-housing-project-green-light/3654326001/ Cincinnati City Council gave the green light for an affordable housing project in Lower Price Hill, a vote that came over the objections of Mayor John Cranley and city administrators. After city administrators refused to help the project with $1 million in federal grant money – the last money needed to get the project that will house nearly 50 families going – Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld championed the project. And he found seven members of council to agree. I'm all for affordable housing, but I don't understand why this project costs so much to begin with.

Thanks for the informative and depressing post! ? I guess I'll stop getting my hopes up every time a new project is announced.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
That's a good point, but it seems like something could be figured out with maybe 10-15 stories of affordable units and then 5-10 stories of luxury units on top of that.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
I have a question that maybe there's an obvious answer to. Something I've always wondered is why has no developer stepped up to build a residential tower with actual affordable apartments. I'm talking 1 bedrooms $8-900 and 2 bedrooms $11-1200. Build it however many stories necessary to make it profitable. I've been looking at apartments downtown and pretty much every desirable spot is gone within a day or two if it's under $950, let alone $900. What's keeping this from happening? Or is there just still too much demand for more profitable luxury apartments.

LAW 21 replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentWe would sometimes go to the Gest St. location after Reds games. I'll miss it. Related to that, we tried to go to the Carew Tower locations a couple times, but it was always closed by the time games were over, even on the weekend.

Cincinnati Mayoral Race 2021
I could be wrong, but I think Mann will be the favorite in this race.

Cincinnati: Housing Market / Affordable Housing
It seems like houses on the westside are being sold faster than ever. I've sort of started keeping tabs since I might buy something next year and it's really surprised me how high the prices are and how fast they are going anyway. A few houses near me have gone on the market and sold in under a week. I'll have to think about renting instead if prices start getting too ridiculous.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
Does anyone know how Issue 7 is polling? Admittedly it's anecdotal, but I'm in a local Facebook group with about 12k members and it seems to be a 90/10 ratio against it. I'm sure it will be much closer, but it is a little concerning.

Cincinnati: Union Terminal
I visited on Friday and was a little surprised at how much of the exhibits were still not finished. The front desk person mentioned the ice age exhibit was still not finished, but failed to mention pretty much all of the Cincinnati history exhibit was unfinished aside from the public landing area and the model of Cincinnati. Even that was not completely finished. Pretty disappointed that so much is still unfinished. I seem to recall being able to explore more of the building, but that was closed off as well.

LAW 21 replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentSky Galley Restaurant at Lunken will be forced to close after city cancels its lease https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2019/12/12/city-cancels-lease-agreement-with-sky-galley-after-facility-consultation/4409162002/ Anyone know what the deal is? Seems weird to close a historic restaurant, even if there are health code violations. A lot of restaurants have those. I've already seen a petition floating around to keep it open.

It's interesting you say that because Hathaway's was going to close as well, but apparently they worked something out and is going to stay open for now.

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
The biggest problem is not a single pitcher has panned out over a full season so far. DeSclafani did, but he hasn't quite been the same since coming back from injury. Mahle was having a decent year, then he suddenly had a meltdown halfway through the season. Castillo was really disappointing early on, but he seems to have turned things around more recently. If those guys can have solid seasons next year and if the Reds are able to sign at least a #2 type pitcher, I'll be feeling pretty good about their chances next year.
