casey replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe unannounced apartment building continues to come along nicely. Also the two office buildings next door for Nationwide's campus are just about done. The Manchester building apartments are occupied, but no sign of any ground floor tenants yet. And Chick Fil A is complete as well

Columbus: Downtown: 80 on the Commons
I haven't seen a lot of shots posted from this side, but 225 80 on the Commons really stands out as you travel into downtown from the east. It's not super tall of course, but has a lot of mass and fills out the street out in a nice way,

casey replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionLooks like this is back from the dead, Columbus Metropolitan Library sells apartments near Topiary Park to Pizzuti Cos. for development Columbus Metropolitan Library's Board of Trustees voted unanimously Thursday to sell the Grant Oak Apartments, a 1.25-acre site at S. Grant Avenue and Oak Street, just north of the library, to Pizzuti Cos. for $1.26 million. The developer plans to build a pair of five-story buildings with 120 apartments and ground retail space in the latest of its projects in Discovery District. This project is separate from the six-story, 100-apartment development Pizzuti and Capital University are planning nearby on a 1-acre site just south of the Seneca apartments on E. Broad Street. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2018/01/25/columbus-metropolitan-library-sells-apartments.html

It sounds like they're only replacing brick with EIFS along the two alley sides of this project (Cherry and Ludlow), so it shouldn't make that much of a difference - especially if the neighboring surface lots are filled in.

Columbus: Downtown: Millennial Tower
I would say that Arshot (Bill Schottenstein) has a history of dreaming maybe a little too big and having a tendency to bite off more than he can chew (not the worst qualities at all btw) Other than SPARC, the most high profile project of his I can remember that never came to fruition at all was the proposed second phase of Bicentennial Plaza (brick office building), that would have been a large, residential tower across Cherry St from phase 1 at the corner of 2nd and Main Most of his other stuff maybe didn't fully live up to its original billing or have enough real staying power, but he did build it in some form eventually In addition to the vacant Cooper Stadium wasteland, skepticism of Arshot probably comes because he's lost some high profile property to repossession by lenders in recent memory (5/3 building, Bicentennial Plaza), and some of his other stuff has been plagued by vacancies (retail in Brewer's Yard, Brewmaster's Gate, 5/3 building) or maintenance issues (LED screens atop CVS half missing, other half almost always broken) That said, even though I take anything he proposes with a grain of salt, I really hope he can get Millennial Tower off the ground in some form. Arshot certainly doesn't have the polish of Pizzuti, or the reliability of NRI, but he does propose and take on projects that probably no one else would. This hasn't always been totally successful, but overall he's added a lot more to the city than detracted from it

Columbus: Downtown: Millennial Tower
Arshot built the taller, tower addition to the 5/3 building at State and High in 1998 (but no longer own it), and renovated the former Woolworths across High St into CVS/Subway and offices (topped with an LED screen) around that time as well. They also built the brick office building facing Bicentennial Park (directly behind the Millennial Tower lot, though they also no longer are the owner) I want to say around 2002. Before that they were active in the Brewery District and still own the Worley Building and much of the renovated Hoster Brewing complex there (and freeway adjacent LED screen). Most recently they redid the smaller brick office building at State and High and connected it into their neighboring Woolworths project (while also of course adding a massive LED ad screen wrap) edit: cbussoccer beat me to it! :)

Delaware / Ohio Wesleyan University: Developments and News
Delaware development: Rental units meant to fill ‘unmet need’ A nonprofit organization’s plan to build rental units for people with disabilities in Delaware has led to some concerns among the site’s neighbors. Del-Mor Dwellings Corp. wants to construct up to 48 one-bedroom rental units on about 3.6 acres at 250 Curtis St. The proposed development would sit just north of Firestone Drive, south of the Hidden Ridge apartment complex. Del-Mor Dwellings plans to complete the project in two phases, with the construction of an eight-unit, one-story building and three eight-unit, two-story buildings slated first. In the second phase, the developer would raze an existing house on the site and build two more eight-unit, two-story rental buildings. http://www.thisweeknews.com/news/20180118/delaware-development-rental-units-meant-to-fill-unmet-need

Worthington: Developments and News
Technically this isn't in Worthington, but it is directly adjacent and I couldn't find a Crosswoods area thread? Mods feel free to move Over the last decade there's been a big shift in this area, which was once a hotbed of chain restaurants (now closing/relocating as that business has increasingly shifted up to Polaris Pkwy), with Crosswoods seeing hundreds of new apartments constructed in their place. This latest project continues that trend, adding 168 units under the much used (abused?) "extended stay hotel" zoning loophole which developers have been exploiting across the city to add dense residential projects in areas zoned as commercial Crosswoods’ Bravo, Winking Lizard sites earmarked for development http://www.thisweeknews.com/news/20171213/crosswoods-bravo-winking-lizard-sites-earmarked-for-development

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
Not really a big project, but would be kind of cool and a unique way to link into the trail system, Columbus considers joining urban trend toward ‘high line’ parks Imagine walking or bicycling along an abandoned rail line with a clear view of the Downtown skyline - that’s what’s being planned for Franklinton: a mini-version of Manhattan’s wildly popular High Line trail. The one in Franklinton would be 1,000 feet long, between the intersection of Lucas and Chapel streets and the Scioto River, and would run along an abandoned railroad viaduct and on bridges over West Town and West Rich streets near the 400 West Rich artist colony. “It’s just a really cool view of Downtown,” said Brian Hoyt, a spokesman for Columbus Recreation and Parks Department. The elevated Columbus trail would be part of the Franklinton Loop Trail, a series of on-street and dedicated trails linking areas of Franklinton with the Scioto Trail along the Scioto River. http://www.dispatch.com/news/20180121/columbus-considers-joining-urban-trend-toward-high-line-parks

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
According to the latest DC agenda, LC is seeking to reduce their under-construction Beatty building one story from 10 to 9 floors. This was originally proposed (5 years ago!) as being 8, to match the Trautman project across the street, but then was bumped up to 10 (3 years ago!) Maybe this means they'll be done by 2020? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I still won't believe this is anything but typical Schottenstein vaporware until it's topped out, but it certainly would make a statement on the skyline... Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
I think this is the right thread for this? No renderings yet, but... The 'red brick district' is really heating up! Apartment building with ground-floor cafe planned at on E. Main Street Downtown Another new apartment building is being planned for Downtown Columbus, this one in the emerging nightlife area of E. Main and S. 4th streets. Plans were submitted to the city for an 8-story building at 195 E. Main St., now the site of a one-story industrial building. The proposal calls for 9,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space including a cafe, with parking in the rear, topped by seven floors of residences and amenity space. The project would contain 105 residences and an estimated 82 parking spaces. http://www.dispatch.com/business/20180119/apartment-building-with-ground-floor-cafe-planned-at-on-e-main-street-downtown

Columbus: Car-sharing services
Pretty cool! Anything that gets more single occupancy cars off the road is a good move IMO. This could be a great option to serve the more suburban apartment communities popping up around 270 and specific larger employers like Chase around Polaris, Rickenbacker, New Albany, etc that COTA is not efficient for If anyone is curious on the initial six routes Chariot is launching with on Monday, they are mapped here - https://www.chariot.com/routes

casey replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionTerrific news! And agreed on the high quality of Pizzuti's work. Hopefully this is just the first of a few projects this team could complete downtown. If this proves successful, Capital's surface lot just north of here on the corner with Broad would be a great spot down the road for an even larger residential/parking tower combo

I like it! Schooley Caldwell really does good work - this looks like a solid addition to the streetscape, and will be a great location for residents right next to two grocery stores. The decorative arch at the intersection with Arcadia as an homage to Olentangy Park is also a nice touch. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olentangy_Park
