  1. Evan Millward had a pic of the new place "The Artistry" on Twitter. Curious if you all had any opinions,,,,,,,,,,,,,,just kidding of course you do! ?
  2. I saw a quote that not moving the substation would save 35million (which seems crazy) so they were going to wiggle more to the north to avoid it. Just what you need in your bridge, a 'wiggle'.
  3. Here is all the land that would be cleared for a new multilane exit to Spring Grove. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1240302,-84.5359639,3a,75y,238.9h,81.91t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sgFfV76oDTELaLuneOscGLg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 And all this to the North because ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1249697,-84.5359915,3a,75y,317.82h,97.36t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s4UwR02eabKoC6U7Rnarkkw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 In the photos you can see how far they are from the main viaduct itself.
  4. I guess ODOT just cant build near existing buildings anymore. I always liked how close the current span was to the buildings at spring grove but this version of the layout knocks down a whole block to the south for that wimpy ramp and a big old 6 story or so chemical packing company to the north just because i guess. The article mentions skewing north a bit to leave the sub station intact (which is why i thought they were building that new one on Beekman but i guess not) so maybe that southern block would be saved but I doubt it and guess everything between the current location and Jeurgens is on the cutting block now? https://www.wcpo.com/news/transportation-development/move-up-cincinnati/can-cincinnati-and-hamilton-county-save-money-on-the-western-hills-viaduct
  5. Just put a $2 toll on the Robeling. If people are changing their routine to save a dollar then they will change it to save 2 as well
  6. If Amazon said they moved to the West End for the history and urban environment and were going to be good neighbors without displacement then immediately took out a couple of blocks prior to getting designs done asked for tens of millions in tax breaks and millions up front and started kicking folks out as their footprint expanded we would see the same people make the same complaints. This is not about soccer or Berding himself (though he does have baggage from the PBS years) it is about how all of this is playig out and how the promises made upfront are not going in the interest of people who like well built urban environments. The urban environment we hoped would improve with such a large investment and influx of people going to games. That atmosphere could be wonderful if played correctly, I personally am disappointed in how it seems to be going so far, and even more so if it is surrounded by parking and a FCC run entertainment district that isolates it from the community in exchange for perceived 'safety'. I had high hopes, but we will see how it goes.
  7. ^^^ Thanks Much!!! I may have to take a day off for it. I saw the one for Stearns & Foster up in Lockland come down in a similar way where they just took a chunk out of the bottom and it tipped like a tree. With the base of this one up so high and in the middle of the site this may be way more dramatic. Sad to see it go though.
  8. I always assumed it was the H from here but i guess not. Looks like a different font and smaller.
  9. If interested and i can find the negatives I'll donate one of my night photos of the art deco entry to go with the collection of stuff. They were from before it got graffiti tagged on the stoneas well. Ive seen that H before in the background of urban explorer pics from the past just sitting up on the roof with some of the other letters. Pretty sweet finds! Is the smokestack going to be last? I'd like to try and get there to see it go.
  10. It's a MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT!!!! https://www.cincinnati.com/story/money/2019/02/27/mayor-big-news-coming-ex-macys-fountain-square/3002219002/
  11. True, my initial impression of it was based entirely on the lack of maintenance. Things like the water leaks, rust and falling soffits can be fixed as long as the current owner is out of the picture.
  12. Another plot of nearby land becomes available for development (thank goodness). If you look on google maps this place has had tarps on various parts of it's roof for years. https://www.wcpo.com/money/local-business-news/convention-place-property-poised-for-redevelopment
  13. Thanks much!!! glad these bits git to live on and tell their story.
  14. Anyone here know who was able to salvage the Hudepohl art deco medallion logo, lower facade and polished stainless canopy before they started demo? Just curious if it was a private collector or if it would pop up somewhere local where i could see it again. Ive taken long exposure photos and other photos of it for years and was just curious. In other news it looks like the demo has begun, with them removing the casement windows and what salvageable metal was left as well is setting up cranes and carefully pealing back the connection to the part that looks to be staying in the back where the keg pick-up was.
  15. Just saw on twitter that the Revelation Baptist church just sold to West End Holdings. Is there anything left that hasn't changed hands in the superblock now besides the Ballet and the three big ones along Ezzard Charles (Dist1, Chore Monster & Taft) ? https://www.google.com/maps/place/John+St+%26+W+Liberty+St,+Cincinnati,+OH+45214/@39.1137981,-84.5247625,80a,35y,126.2h,63.11t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x8841b400dc8532eb:0xc6ebc7ce70936365!8m2!3d39.1134453!4d-84.5243342
  16. One more. This is the Fire HQ that was mentioned in the article above that was also torn down at the same time. I believe there were a few other random buildings on this block too with the one at the south west being a liquor store of some sort. My memory is a bit fuzzy on the things that don't stand out much.
  17. Here is a good overview for those who were not around then. https://www.kaintuckeean.com/2015/03/newport-ky-millennium-freedom-tower-2000.html
  18. Late 90's. Ive got pictures of the Demo somewhere in my photo closet. Had beautiful terracotta at the top and base just like in the postcard above. It was a office building and may have had state offices in it. It was torn down specifically by the Hosea group for the bell/Millenium tower project that turned into what we have now. Initially there was talk of tearing the entire block to the north down too along with the Southgate House/Thompson House so that there would be a clear view and greenspace from the river to this block where the huge space needle tower was suposed to be built. Ahhh the 90's
  19. Well i was half right. The units are side by side and those on the Elevator side are the windowless living room units. http://www.studenthousingmgmt.com/cincinnati/?p=836
  20. I believe if i remember correctly that the weird growth is the elevator shaft and the hall passes those front windows in route to the 'front' and 'rear' apts. The windows are in the hall, the front apt i believe may have no windows in the living room and maybe a small one to the side in a back room. It has been a bit but that part stuck in my head.
  21. Yea, Both of those are gems in their own way, I just hope those at FCC don't let their egos be hurt by having at least ONE neighbor they dont own in their bubble as it relates to the Choremonster building. I think it is cool to have a big industrial sized building next door and wish there were more but i can see someone asking why such an eyesore is blocking the chances of having a clear photo of their shiny new stadium and music hall in the same image.
  22. ....and you wont believe the closet space!
  23. This looks like the expanding storm front wall in my kid's Fortnite game. Look out Crosley!!!!
  24. To be honest i was expecting PromoWest to build something near the FCC stadium and that all the shadiness about the land expansions and unseen development renders had something to do with that. Maybe it did at some point but they found Newport easier to work with so they jumped ship. I hope they do well there, perhaps this will help the Banks just as much as it being on the Ohio side with the benefit of having perhaps two concerts at once or staggered between the two event centers for even more people in the area. Much more of a win for The Banks than a PromoWest center in the West End.
