  1. This one? I bumped it parking more times than I'd like to count during my years of going to Lance's Art Supply store on design school levels of sleep. I wonder if they are redeveloping it along with the lot? Would be ashamed to lose it to parking or not take the opportunity to fill the gap between the existing buildings. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1285979,-84.5200604,3a,75y,184.49h,96.8t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s58Cwqd9S168IOlNJ_rEYTg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
  2. Reminds me of this playset i had growing up, but with less detailing. https://www.etsy.com/listing/553099708/vintage-1970s-fisher-price-little-people?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_b-toys_and_games-toys-other&utm_custom1=85524bb2-c2d3-48b2-b01a-1e7cf79148c2&gclid=CjwKCAiAlL_UBRBoEiwAXKgW5_dte1VciEauVYo3sV_jNqkMiiwFEeESNjKD36kuBXOzHAILdBpysBoCufoQAvD_BwE
  3. ^^ Thanks, i knew it was somewhat highway related but wasn't sure exactly why it was there. Looking at the alignment needed to go where the 1/3 end of Longworth hall is i wonder if the Cincinnati Bell and UPS buildings are doomed along with the Fox19 Building. Hopefully not especially since the TV station is in a rare survivor building of the Queensgate purge.
  4. Who's to say it isnt taking its toll ALL the time, even in the warm months? When it is crowded ALL the cars should be running and that does not usually happen for some questionable reason or threats that every extra car on the lines needs to recoup all the money instantly in fares or it stays parked. Also there are no pics of the buses towing the Streetcar around since that didnt happen. At one point in the ice storm a tow truck towed a disabled streetcar and at another point a dayton bus with a electrical pantograph did make the rounds to help clear off ice. I dont have any special knowledge about the situation but that is what was said in the media.
  5. That's how the DOT ensures the minimal amount of opposition, by eliminating as many businesses and residents that are in the way who might pose a problem, and also by increasing the amount of sunk costs in the project so they can say "we have to finish it now." Yet this building was built happily nestled among the ramps and highway. Is this a State facility? FYI in the back they caught a moment in time as the old Dunhumby building was just starting demo. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Cincinnati,+OH/@39.0986225,-84.5235428,76a,35y,87.82h,71.5t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x884051b1de3821f9:0x69fb7e8be4c09317!8m2!3d39.1031182!4d-84.5120196 Are there any other possible demos due to this? Things like the concrete plant or the bengals practice field are safe I guess, but the Job Corp building next to Union Terminal is right on the highway almost as close as the goldstar was on Dalton/Spring Grove.
  6. On the other side I saw this one asking people to voice THERE opinion. Ugh, too much rushing to spin going on. https://scontent.fluk1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/27858544_154660975331781_4249778259199502229_n.jpg?oh=e2e0af99aad9b63cfdac5e1922ebdd2c&oe=5B15928D
  7. Based on the historic record that is the movie AIRBORNE the video store (and i think there was even a car repair place next door further west) was in the bottom part that has already collapsed and been cleared.
  8. I think they took a few designer liberties with that as it wasn't that close to the edge of the street (it was aligned with 5th street as i recall) and it was higher elevation wise maybe 4-5ft above the street level. It was certainly that noticeable from the car though.
  9. That is a still from a video that came out in the late 90's early 2000's or so where the 'old cincinnati' changed building by building into the 'future cincinnati'. This just caught it at a blending point. I remember being quite amazed at it at the time having never seen 'old Cincinnati' in 3d before.
  10. Have you ever been to Mt Adams? Where would you fit a soccer stadium????? Cantilevered out over the west facing hillside with an aerial tram station integrated into it. Super easy to do and very cost effective. /sarcasm I dont see why they couldnt from a design standpoint but our predilection to landslides would be an issue. All parking along Eggleston with a tram up to Mt Addams. Sure beats the Stadiunm in a see of parking garages look. http://www.edinburgharchitecture.co.uk/images/jpgs/royal_edinburgh_military_tattoo_j090811_4.jpg
  11. ^^ Reminds me of Bruce Willis' apt in Fifth Element.
  12. Facing it along the parkway would be a wonderful outcome for all sides i'd think. I realize there is a lot of sneakiness in the property game so i wont get my hopes up but wow that would be a wonderful spot.
  13. It sky tram at UC has been in the mix since the late 90's if not earlier. It was a way to connect UC students and others moving into the redeveloped Calhoun & McMillan corridor and the CHURC project area to the market and entertainment zones in OTR (which at the time was only on Main st). Back then it would go from the end of Ohio ave to the market but not sure where the end point was going to be ot the method of tram planned.
  14. Is it not going on the lot E and Hilltop Property to the SW of PBS? That is what the B&W render in the Courier (i think it was them) had.
  15. Or this. Koalas everywhere! https://i.imgur.com/flYwWTp.png
  16. Well that is what a competent group of people would do.............lets see if the City leaders choose that path or go for the way that causes the most drama. Any bets on the way they choose? I think everyone needs to make this a failure of leadership issue and quit letting these whiners who have the means to fix things get away with this on every issue. Fix it or get out of office is my new mantra for 2018.
  17. ^^How many people go to OTR and even expect to park anywhere near where they are going anyway?!? I go expecting to leave my car and walk to my destination or if i have more than one stop and it is possible ill ride the streetcar. We need to make the entireity of the area the destination and not treat each spot as and island like what was said above. What could be the reason the Historic board is doing this anyway? Is it to protect the area or keep it from becoming gridlocked with cars? seems we already have an expensive solution to that problem already and just need to build a parking garage ABOVE the streetcar line somewhere perhaps at the Maintenance Facility as i think Jake suggested and drop the parking requirement entirely, Is there a legal reason they cant drop it or a city policy of some sort stopping this? The historic board should not even weigh in on parking matters anyway ands should focus on the building and its look and use. Let those with a broader view who see the ENTIRE picture work on the 'people moving' issue. Ugh why do we even seem to make our successes into problems.
  18. For those who havent seen the cladding for 111 check this out. Amazing, and exactly what you said about being surprising for the size of the building. https://skyrisecities.com/forum/threads/new-york-111-west-57th-street-438m-80s-jds-shop.23969/
  19. We may never know why Mr. Johnson of Franklin, who does not live within and most likely does not work within the City of Cincinnati and therefore does not pay taxes to it, was so concerned about Cincinnati building a streetcar system. Lol, thanks for sharing that. I had friends in from Chicago last month. We went down to the Christmas City Flea. The streetcar was obviously packed that night. I was explaining to them that a lot of people, especially those outside of the city hate the streetcar. It was hard for them to understand why anyone would have such anger towards the project, I should have shown them this letter. I also have a friend from Lexington who visits a few times a year and he always wants to go downtown and ride the streetcar. The streetcar has problems, we all know them and we all know how to fix them. In time they'll be fixed and 5 years from now we'll roll our eyes at all this nonsense and hopefully we'll be ready to talk about expanding it uptown. We may never know why Mr. Johnson of Franklin, who does not live within and most likely does not work within the City of Cincinnati and therefore does not pay taxes to it, was so concerned about Cincinnati building a streetcar system. There is a person of the same name on facebook from Morrow and after reading his page it is either a put on or we found our man. Pretty funny (and brief) read. Terrell is in BIG trouble if facebook steals his identity!! https://www.facebook.com/clive.johnsoniii
  20. Well to be fair it is WAY down at number 3 on their priorities list for the new year..........https://www.cincinnati.com/story/opinion/editorials/2018/01/05/our-2018-editorial-board-agenda/998130001/ Amplifying our watchdog function - holding governments accountable for how they spend the people’s tax dollars, maintain transparency and adhere to Ohio’s open records laws.
  21. In other words. What about poor Sleepy Leroy!! Haha! Not whining though it sounds like it a bit i just didnt want the city to cause west side chaos as an easy out to the Viaduct issue.
  22. As someone who drives into Evendale daily on Queen city to the WHV to 75-n you all are making me quite nervous. Keeping it helps separate the commuters into relatively jam free flows from: Delhi/westside to downtown on Delhi Pike or Rt 50 (via 6th street viaduct) Price hill to town (via Glenway & 8th street viaduct) Delhi & Parts of PH & Westwood & Fairmount to 75 & UC (via Harrison & Queencity to the WH Viaduct) Westwood to UC & 75 via Hopple St Viaduct Westwood & Cumminsville/northside & beyond to UC & 75 via I-74 It would sound like you could easily delete one of these many access points but there isnt really a good North South road to handle the cross traffic on. State St? Beekman? Both are WAY undersized and there is no real other connection over to Hopple or the Westwood Northern Blvd North of Beekman other than Residential sized streets like McHenry or Baltimore. The same is true if you try to jump from Rt.50 to Glenway somewhere or from Queen city to anywhere north. The way cars flow out of the various valleys is what dictated the numerous access points across the valley and there would need to be other improvements to dump the flow other than simply eliminating one. Believe me Ive tried various routes in my 12yrs of driving this way and during times when one or more are out of commission (like 6th & 8th & Hopple all were at times) the traffic flow onto the other routes is somewhat crippling. I'd hate to have what has happened to Fairmount all be for nothing as well as it is being reconfigured to handle traffic better than ever and to make that all go to state st. south or Beekman north would be awful. Not against the idea of closing it but i am without a plan to handle the traffic shifts it would cause.
  23. I cant remember for sure on this one but i think the city may have chipped in on that as they apparently LOVE to do. Maybe someone was a good developer that year and got extra parking levels in their stocking? This was built quite a while back though and was from the previous admin or even pre-Mallory. One of the first 'build it and we ill fill it' private student housing developments around here. I never lived there but from the stories ive read and from other experiences it taught me that the only way to a quiet life was to avoid non-concrete highrises. I wonder if that recording studio bleeds sound to the neighboring units too.
  24. Probably not on the building but just maybe in print and social media. If they do, it helps the they could just replace the 5 letter COLOR with PAINT. Here was the first go at changing the blue 'Palate' portion for those who didnt see it or like me waned to forget. Those old sign guys knew their stuff, and im glad it is more similar to the original intent again.
  25. ^ I can see that creating havoc for customers who google the name only to find the old building with the old sign and find asian fusion instead of antique white being sold. Hopefully this is just a way to drive google hits to the location on Dalton and the sign can stay as is. BTW so glad they came to their senses and repainted the bottom portion back to how it was originally. The horrible font and layout from squeezing all that info onto it at first hurt my little designer brain. FYI Im sure 'asian fusion' is some kind of orange paint from some paint co. out there.
