Cincinnati: West End: Development and News
^ Nothing cleared and open but thinking underutilized areas like the 60's era block where Paycor used to be or the block on 8th that is mostly a Fuller Ford dealership. Not saying kick anyone out though and the current owners know the value so maybe not the best path.

Cincinnati: West End: Development and News
Im still holding out for the old Hudepohl site or a similar West End Adjacent (never thought id say that before) property that used to be a car lot or other suburban sprawl type use. Except for the already announced demolition of the smokestack (grrr) there are no issues for those who are already set to pounce and protest the loss of the school property and homes and other 'gentrifying' that plopping a stadium in a currently used and populated lower income area will cause. Some of my facebook friends are all ready to roll on this from what i see. I also think the assumed west end site at Stargell field will ruin Liberty street as a high access thru road for another generation or more. Why shoot yourselves in the foot by picking a controversial site when this should be a win and plus for the whole city......location wise at least financially it is a different story. My ultimate dream is something like this hanging from the hill in Mt Addams with Sky Trams and inclines and bars all decorated in a sea of blue & orange. http://www.sir-robert-mcalpine.com/projects/index-thumbnailIndex=3&id=29071.html That said it will probably just go to Oakley in the bland awkward spot by what Mayor Cranley already described as a half-a$$ development by saying "beggars cant be choosers" when it was approved to be a sea of big box nothingness. If so it would be a horrible missed opportunity to make something uniquely Cincinnati. On a similar note the stadium design i initially though was cool and unique lost a lot of that when I googled MLS soccer stadiums and saw that many of them look similar but just in their own team colors and not blue & orange like ours.

Cincinnati: Car-sharing services
^^^^I wonder if someone is already planning these somewhere downtown too? Luckily i don't think they would be street legal in the US. If they were i can just see in the summer throughout OTR they would be dueling it out with the superbike crew littering the streets with turtle shells and banana skins. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g1066854-d8642806-Reviews-MariCar-Shinagawa_Tokyo_Tokyo_Prefecture_Kanto.html

Cincinnati: Terrace Plaza Hotel - December 2017
I'm a bit confused on all this because I thought Anderson Birkla were the ones who own it now but it doesn't sound like it? Or at least they had a contract for the purchase and they did a long interview with the Business Courier and even posted a rendering but maybe that is all moot now? I can't find the picture on an article but it is posted on the forum for Terrace Plaza on the second to last page from August of this year. It shows them taking out the brick wall and it was explained that it was only cosmetic and could be removed. From what i heard at the intro that is one of the directions they may pursue but it was just a concept proposal. THey were showing the building to other architects and preservationists after our tour and had also had someone there from I believe BDHP who is involved in the early steps of preserving the building. They also had numerous other design proposal renderings on display in the 8th floor bar that were more in keeping to the original look. Nothing seems solid yet in terms of the best way to move forward. Any else there hear this?

Cincinnati: Terrace Plaza Hotel - December 2017
^^ Is Abe Simpson said. "Twas the style at the time". Actually Cincinnati was on the cutting edge of the style with this build, but the trendy low ceilings sure were an unchangeable bit of style. Pretty much ANYTHING else can be changed in a remodel except the ceilings in a low ceiling highrise tower. It is the main reason i like the current owners ideas to bring it back as a period piece and play up the style and look it once had.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionFrom the backside of the SHillitos building it is easier to see the division of the older east side and the newer and currently unused west side. The back didnt get the deco reskin and kept its HUGE original sash windows. The Skylight is the top glass over the huge atrium.

SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe entire east side is residential around the opened up atrium with offices on the first floor. I believe the marketing agency LANDOR is there still. http://www.loftsatshillito.com/

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
^^^ No sadly the Room numbers are well hidden and i didnt want to get escorted out by pulling the fiberboard off. I sure was tempted though. They had some drawings there and one showed a section view but nothing head on. Maybe another floor has them exposed but not the case up on the floor we were allowed to tour. They did say that SOM if REALLY excited about the new interest and gave them all the original drawing and even want to volunteer in what ever way they can if it can be restored. In another cool bit i was told that they are pretty sure the original front overhand and TERRACE PLAZA sign still exist under that awful tacked up awning at the entrance.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
The halls were the lowest "feeling" part of the Hotel portion and you can see the metal track where the later added (and now removed) drop ceiling was at about 8" above the door transom. That fiberboard panel covered the front of the original fluorescent indirect lamp that also included an illuminated room number. I guess it got covered in a previous remodel but it is still there. If removed it would also raise the door area up to the level of the lowered ceiling.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
SleepyLeroy replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI guess we will finally find out soon. This is a spot I never thought would get built upon in my lifetime. Glad the current atmosphere has made for surprises quite a bit recently.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
SleepyLeroy replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionNot sure if it is true or not, but I always heard that the basement of the old Lion Brewery is still there and the current parking deck is built upon it. Not sure it that means there is an open basement there or the basement was filled up to the current level. Something is going on there as the lot slopes down but the parking deck is level to Central Parkway.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
In the hotel portion the rooms are quite small, but the 8' ceilings did not bother me at all with such an expansive view. If the footprints were opened up a bit even the upper floors I could see being apartments/condos. Not everyone wants a cavernous loft space, they would just have to market it to those who appreciate the style.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
FYI - first time uploading this way. Any of you know what i did wrong above? At least the links are there though. It was a good tour and it seems there will be more in the future. I found out about this once from the Cincinnati Preservation Collective.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
Did anyone else make it to the tour of the Terrace Plaza Saturday? Looks like the new owners are serious about finding a way to make it work again and are open to most ideas (not limited to hotel/condos combos). They are also really hoping to make it like the original intended International Style/Modernist design with the hopes that the history would be a draw to it's rebirth. Not as bad as i thought the inside would be but the last NY owner took anything that wasnt nailed down as well as ignoring repairs. They also did quite a bit of damage to the hotel roof when they took the brick off the cooling tower too. Financially they are now free of any back takes and other issues so they are turning towards catching up on maintenance. Took LOTS of photos, but here are a few. I saw that earlier and thought the same, but maybe with the inner streets being "alleys" that means they face the existing streets. I hope.

Cincinnati: Camp Washington: Development and News
My hope is that they rescue the Powel Valves building down the block & across from the park that is falling in to ruin and is on the demo list. Would make a spectacular tap room. Like a Queen City Garage x50 is they keep the walls and make a courtyard out of the part that is in the worst shape at the SE corner. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1423016,-84.5386786,3a,90y,247.49h,106t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sdgpDsPW0_hNazXHYByvSkg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium
If it is the west end then maybe this also prepares the public for the eventual request for Tif and airport money for infrastructure from the land owners in Oakely Square while distracting them from the land purchasing in the West End? If so, im glad I'm in design as my head just cant keep up with all the power moves and distractions of the business and political world.

Cincinnati: Oakley: Oakley Station
I was just looking around the map on google and found there is a funny streetview leftover in the middle of the new oakley station area. Not quite the view I was expecting. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Oakley,+Cincinnati,+OH+45209/@39.1571344,-84.4284092,649m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x8841ad71a25b4a85:0x91d58858848f1e56!8m2!3d39.1511025!4d-84.4225186

Cincinnati: Liberty Street Road Diet
I wonder if FCC in Oakley was a savior for the Liberty Road diet? It seems that getting fans in cars in and out seems to be their only worries when it comes to infrastructure. If the west end site was chosen Liberty would have been the most direct connection to eastside fans on I-71 and it seems their thinking is "more lanes = more fans". Didn't want to tangent off the FCC thread but supporters of the road diet should perhaps count their blessings iy isn't in the West End.

Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium
It looked like from the render they had on the press conference that the stadium abuts the wall along the exit here for a beautiful view of the highways. With what Travis says above, they couldnt make it more boring of a layout if they tried. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1636934,-84.433205,3a,89.9y,162.43h,102.86t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1szNaeVk7JVmXHDQJqVot8fg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium
How can this be if they’ve been wanting to develop Ovation for years? It's a very good question. Most likely it is WLW (Cunningham) misrepresenting the facts to spread FUD. Is it not on the DRY SIDE of a rather large flood wall?!? Me thinks that is a made up thing someone is parroting.
