Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
SleepyLeroy replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Construction^ I like it. Very dimensional and interesting facade and unique response to the way to what im sure are setback rules without breaking the street front with full gaps with the neighboring buildings. It is smaller than the neighbors in floor height but i think that also helps it look better in that it stands on its own, especially with the windows on either sides being at different levels. those front room side windows are another cool detail making the usually forgoten or dull sides part of the design. It even has the look of a storefornt at the street though that may be used as a 'porch'. If this doesnt sail thru the review board and neighborhood criticism I'm entirely clueless on what would make them happy.

Cincinnati: Camp Washington: Development and News
The hill at the end of Colerain where the Cincinnati State Pedestrian bridge used to end was just cleared and leveled giving the opportunity to take in the view of the Crosley Building as well as the old Kahns property and the impound lot. Way more scenic in person than it sounds, and the view into the hills from a hopefully redone Crosley will be quite amazing one day.

Cleveland -- unidentified terra cotta building
Cool, i didnt even realize that reflection was another building. I saw it as odd turn of the century decoration in the storefront of the Suffrage building.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 1010 On The Rhine / Downtown Kroger
I tried to find a picture yesterday and didn't have any luck, but I believe where they are digging used to be the site of the Hamilton County Records building that burned in a rather spectacular 5+ alarm fire back in the 1970's(?) or so. That may be an oil tank for the old heating system.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fourth & Race (Pogue Garage) Redevelopment
It had i hallway connection from the garage & skywalk on the third floor and all the businesses were small glass fronted kiosk type stores. Lower floors were offices, short lived clubs and apparently at one point a food court in the mix. This sad sign is still up.

Nice!!! I can also see why the soffits of Convention Place are failing. That roof is a patchwork of tarps.

Cincinnati: Avondale: Development and News
You mean the houses they did tear down for there expansion? https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1076428,-84.5162823,3a,90y,291.48h,94.29t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sf-sFSsz5nJJhg3ktXLa2lA!2e0!5s20070901T000000!7i3328!8i1664 Not these back in the early 2000's there was a plan for a new walnut street OTR school and CPS wanted to tear down two blocks worth of existing buildings to build something like the school that got built in the west end by TAFT (center of block with a campus surrounding). It would have been awful for OTR and its resurgence.

^^ Thanks for that clarification, i was confused at why the bank was so involved in this.

Cincinnati: South Fairmount: Development and News
^^ Pretty sure that is it. At one point the family Dollar wasnt on there but looks like it is sadly back. If you haven't seen it it looks like a pole barn and the back and dumpsters will welcome you to the west side from the viaduct. Lovely. They at least saved the funeral home garage as a facility building and one home that didnt sell out will survive .Also staying is the strip mall with the site & sound stereo place that has been there for like 40years. The previous plan where Queen city was a local two way saved more buildings on the queen city side but the Cranley meddling lead the the fancy median look of it and it became more scattered.

They own this building under the Josephs Oldsmobile name. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1248853,-84.4908504,3a,89.7y,112.78h,93.96t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sUmWueBO04DNzehoIt1f0hQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Cincinnati: Walnut Hills / East Walnut Hills: Development and News
Joseph's Auto & their Columbia REI property division (of the whole Dennison Hotel thing) own one of the cool buildings on the East side of Gilbert near the Prouts Corner intersection. I wonder if they will participate in the rebirth or wait and hold till a Fortune 500 company wants this property too?

Cincinnati: South Fairmount: Development and News
It is amazing how many people and how much equipment are on site for this now. Today on the way past i saw more dump truck in one place than I ever have before, and I drive I-75 from the Viaduct to Evendale every day. There were probably 20 or more empty ones lined up where the new Harrison crossing will be and earth movers everywhere today.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
Yea!!! I love the solid walls because it gives the place the look of a ship sailing down the street but if removing them this makes it a viable project I'm all for it. I just hope they give the owners of Batsakes either a prime spot in the new place or his own building somewhere. That poor fellair has been bumped all over downtown. From the render it looks as if the main entrance has been moved to his current spot facing Vine. What do you all think the options of this plan going through are? Does Birkla have a good track record?

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Music Hall
What are the odds these same donors threaten to pull their money unless ONLY a garage is rebuilt there when the time arrives so they dont have to fight other people in a mixed use development taking the parking spaces they paid to get to by having the bridge rebuilt.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionHmm, I thought there was a parking lot, at least at the NW corner of 9th and Walnut Streets, before the library was expanded to the north. I've lived in the CBD for a long time and I don't remember all of those bldgs. along 9th Street. If they were all there until the early 1990s then I guess I'm losing it. It's hard to believe the library expansion is already obsolete. Planning for it obviously occurred before it was understood how the internet would impact library use. The south bldg. used to be absolutely bustling when I first moved downtown. Also, the bldg. at the SW corner of Court and Walnut Streets was shortened by a floor after a fire caused serious damage. I think there were artists' studios in it before the fire. True, im not sure they were all there either. Im positive the garage was one still standing then along with the small unique building with the circle porch but i cant remember if the block was corner to corner like it is shown here. The regular buildings came down quickly but the garage was reinforced concrete and it tooks weeks of pounding demo. I was in the 9th floor of the Kroger building at the time so i watched it from behind and above when i had a chance.

SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI feel old because i watched this 1/2 block get torn down in 93 or 94 when i was working in the Kroger Building. Now the replacement for them is coming down, didn't expect that so soon. I guess the bridge between them is going too?

Cincinnati: Uptown District Discussion
It's a neat idea, but what makes you think the EPA is looking to move/consolidate with NIOSH? Doh my bad i thought they were joining in the new building by the new 71 exit. I just looked into it and it looks like they are huge in their own right by themselves and are quite proud of their Cincinnati location (2nd largest facility in the nation!). https://www.epa.gov/greeningepa/andrew-w-breidenbach-environmental-research-center-annex-2

Cincinnati: Uptown District Discussion
IF NIOSH & EPA combine in a new building what becomes of the current EPA site? Does UC take it over? Maybe the zoo, they are pushing that way too. Greenspace? (haha just kidding developers are already probably fighting over it).

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
SleepyLeroy replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI wouldn't compare this with the streetcar at all, this is more in the line of the Newport Ferris wheel with the added benefit of connecting two places with similar uses. It is what is, and what it is is cool in a stand alone manner. I think too much comparing it to the streetcar risks encouraging those who think of the streetcar as an amusement park ride and not serious transportation. It differs from the inclines too in that the inclines were a part of the streetcar system and most of them lifted streetcars up and down the hills to carry on their journey elsewhere.
