So with the new budget cut proposal of 'booting' cars vs. towing them, do you think they will boot cars interfering with the streetcar tracks or is that still going to be a tow-able situation? From what i read most cities still tow for something like this but who knows what will go down here as it relates to the streetcar and the current administration. I was told when my driveway was blocked once in CUF that the towing comes out of the police budget and they just ticketed the car and i had to wait till the dude came back in the morning to park at home so maybe this is a Cranley concession to the Police for their support in November disguised as a budget maneuver?

Pretty sure those buildings with porches (at 22:00min) are the ones that used to be up at the top of Sycamore Hill. They would have million dollar lofts in them now if only they were left for a new generation to see potential in. Or if they wouldn't have shamed the neighborhood as a slum that needed to be abandoned maybe they would still have middle class and poor folks living in them like a organically growing city does.

HOMEBODIES (1974) Filmed in Cincinnati using the actual construction of the plum street area and demo of the remaining buildings that were there. Not very memorable, this photo view from the sak's construction site is/was probably the best view of it but usually it was hidden from the street by the sky walks Jake mentioned. My only memory of it as a kid was that there was a place called WAH ME and maybe a burger king but it looked like a tired mall even though it was less than 20yrs old. Apparently it was also home of TOMORROWLAND which was Cincinnati's attempt at a Studio 54 type scene. I can only imagine what that was like and assume Pete Rose was there quite a bit.

From channel 9, this view explains the pier better. Over the parking lot most of the time and water if the river gets high enough.

Depends on the river level i guess. When there is a high river stage it will definitely be out over the water, which would be pretty cool actually.

Perhaps the building owner is a friend of the Mayor (or someone else in power) and wanted to unload it? Eliminating office space from the mix drive the price up for the remaining vacant buildings perhaps? Same for the Hudepohl Brewery. Without a plan to replace it, why is now the time to tear it down? The brewery was a liability in its current state, but i agree that 444 was a solid building in good shape.

I have seen that too, but it is further south of the heavy construction going on that I was talking about. This is the area that abuts Mt Storm past Ludlow that was fairly overgrowth and litter free compared to closer to town from the Viaduct south where the brush clearing is going on..

If it does can I toot my horn a few times for guessing this back on 2/6? I really don't think it is the best spot 'urban wise' but with some integrated history from the Brewery&trains it could lead to a whole new & interesting developable area for new related businesses to spring up without cannibalizing existing entertainment districts or encroaching on residential areas. They recently started clearing out the huge piles of iron ballast that was across from the coal company along Mehring Way so maybe something is in the works there too. I think demolishing the brewery w/o a plan in place is a mistake since things like the barrel vault tunnels and the Eastern Facade where the big letters were would make a cool retrofit into a unique stadium. Even if it isnt the stadium site, it seems rash to tear it down now with the current budget problems.

Yep, I think you are correct, whew. Where they are digging is the same area as that I-74 North super-long merge lane. Yea! I still get to see some nature on my drive excluding that giant field of grass in the right of way at Hopple. Every day i shake my head at the ammount of land lost with all that road sprawl.

I noticed that earth moving equipment is up on the hill just after the Ludlow Viaduct. I hope this isnt for a 'sound barricade', but am unsure why there would be another need to level off as much as they are leveling. Anyone here know the plans of what is going down? I think a sound barricade here would be an awful idea as it blocks the view to the lower part of Mt Storm (the trees at least) bounces sound over to Northside while shielding no one but forest critters and provides an endless canvass for taggers. Hopefully this is just for a fence or drainage, but i foresee an endless commute of concrete from town to my exit in Evendale soon. Grrrr.

This post instantly reminded me of the 'Forum Smell'. It never leave your mind, haha. With all the moving in and out you are bound to get scratches and dents on the walls, but i can only imagine what ten years of it will do to drywall hallways & stairwells if it is not constantly kept up with.

Saw this on a recent one of the 'abandoned building' facebook pages and thought it would be a wonderful fit for the 'flatiron on a cliff' lot at the top of Sycamore Hill at Auburn.
