Cincinnati: 2017 Mayoral Election
If Forbes uses it in a headline in an unironic manner, it is not a slur. Cranley is only playing up to the 'stay off my grass' contingent if his team is behind pushing this further. too bad they vote in higher numbers than the rest because it is not going to win any younger voters. https://www.forbes.com/sites/mikemyatt/2013/09/19/boards-remain-pale-male-and-stale-old-boys-club-alive-and-well/#51966b735c47

SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Constructionis there enough room? there are what appear to be successful businesses there would would be $$$ to move and then tare down. Also could the new I-71/75 bridge take a portion of the area. The belt manufacturing place nextdoor (CMT?) just moved to the old Kmart site in Oakley/Pleasant Ridge and the museum archive & offices could probably move back to the Terminal after the restoration. The jail is gone as well, leaving the new mens shelter in the butternut factory as the only occupied thing on the block excluding the K4 Architecture office i believe.

SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionThat is good to hear, I figured it was a goner based on the lack on maintenance over the years and the state of the roof. I wonder if the neighboring residences across the highway and the potential front row seat to the FWW caps motivated the owner to do something with it?- Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
It also gives people who avoid the Downtown except for the 'heritage days' the impression that this is how they have to get to Fountain square now...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNgb4EdgCFc- Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Two whole years after Casey wrote this wonderful article, it still rings true on an almost daily basis. Cant wait till all these elected officials 'move on' Not in attitude, since that will never change but out of city and other elected positions. Get out there and VOTE everyone!!! http://www.soapboxmedia.com/features/042815-casey-coston-streetcar-opponents.aspx- Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
So if the streetcar closes due to concrete repairs for 4 days, what are the odds that the Enquirer runs a "Lowest ridership week ever, is this a trend!!" type of headline? :whip:- Cincinnati: 2017 Mayoral Election
Anyone here ever see/hear this? It has a couple of jems in it with the Mayor trying to gain his urban mayor street cred. I love how his alternate plan to the streetcar was the redbikes (im sure he stole the credit from someone too) where he imagines a sea of commuters biking up the hill every day saving the city hundreds of millions vs the streetcar. Also his pedestrian friendly development in Price Hill? The incline Theatre and the Incline house is what he is referring to? I mean they are across the street from each other, so i guess it isnt like you have to cross a moat of pedestrian UNfriendly alligators. If you dont read anything else, atleast read the bonkers last paragraph. http://www.urbanophile.com/interviews/cincinnati-mayor-john-cranley/- Cincinnati: Random Development and News
SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe black paint on the storefront Rocks! Good choice. Great tip on Art's woodworking too. they build lots of display related things for my company and are great people who care about what they do. Their shop in Northside looks straight out of the 30's.- Cincinnati Brewery / Beer / Alcohol News
Until the eventual Carew Brew happens. With that rhyme it is only a matter of time.- Cincinnati: Historic Photos
This one took really long to figure out until i zoomed in on the street sign and compared it to today. Only the Buildings down by Race like the Phoenix and a few on the north side of 9th are still here, everything else was gone before i was born.- Cincinnati: Historic Photos
Pretty sure it has been added to. I browse those images frequently at lunch and despite the wonkyness of the site there was probably only 150-200max there before. Ill have to dig into it again tonight. Sure dont remember the pancake place earlier, or the greyhound station.- Cincinnati: Downtown: Dennison Hotel Demolition
If it does get torn town I hope that is true, but WOW they need to hire a new PR firm or at least change how they approach things. Lots of people in the against column would not be nearly as vocal if, like Mr Grewie they put in lots of effort to design and think about the replacement building before approaching the city to talk demo. It would still have issues since it is a more signifigant structure than the one across the street but it would help ease fear that this would be empty for several decades like everything else they touched around there. This entire time, the Joseph's, Columbia REI, the legal team, the Mayor and their PR firm look like elitist snobs who play by their own rules and look down on those dumb residents who actually care about the city.- Cincinnati: Downtown: Dennison Hotel Demolition
Surrounded by a 6' picket fence with a lockable gate? Lovely.- Cincinnati in the 1980s!
We need to send that pic of the run down & tired Power Building to the 'Save the Dennison' folk.- FC Cincinnati Discussion
Im making my out of left field mixed metaphor guess before someone else does. Im betting it will be located at the site of the former Hudepohl brewery. The port authority owns the property for redevelopment, the business nextdoor just moved to the Pleasent Rigde/Oakley Kmart site and the museum offices may return home once the renovation of the terminal is done. Near the highway, close to town plenty of room to park and grow. It is solated from the core by I-75 and near the relocated mens shelter but it is between UC and the river at least and having the big old smokestack integrated into the design would give it some history. After looking at the map though with the bend in the river anywhere from straight east of Nippert to south west of it can fit into that description of 'between UC and the river'.- Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
The Mayor needs to bump up his resume and urbanist cred among the Washington crowd. Only this.- Cincinnati Brewery / Beer / Alcohol News

Here is the best i could find. Looks like similar to the south side but not as tall. This pic is a zoom of a much larger photo i found on Flickr a while ago.- Cincinnati: Downtown: Encore
I withhold judgement on whether or not i like it or if it comes out looking like a giant shipping container till they're finished, but that flip flop color is very cool in person. I went past in the car on Saturday while passing thru town and when making the turn from 7th south to Main the change is impressive. Even my jaded urban 11 year old who tolerates my crazy excursions to abandoned warehouses and such wanted me to circle the block two more times. It really goes from a mustard yellow to an orange to an almost olive green to the brick red. The cladding really fits into my desired Blade Runner-ish view of the future and with the other industrial brick buildings in the immediate neighborhood but how it works as a whole is yet to be determined. Not sure why i expected brick cladding when saw that last rendered version, maybe just based on the pinkish color.- Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati: Development and News
SleepyLeroy replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionGoogle caught a good in-progress view of the Sears building restoration in progress. Wonderful thanks for sharing with us!!! This one is probably a building under construction, but in my head it is an MC Escher installation. - Cincinnati: Random Development and News
