Cincinnati: Downtown: Dennison Hotel Demolition
I dont like what they are doing either, but i dont think they would go that far. I think the plan is to make it as ugly and unpleasant as possible so people beg to have it torn down. I already saw an enquirer response to Bo Tweh's article falling right in line to their little social engineering experiment and this was on THE DAY it was covered up. Gary Bryson · Chase College As a downtown resident I hope the building either gets renovated or demolished. Sitting for 10 years with scaffolding and plastic covering is absolutely the worst possible result. Just look up the street at the urine soaked, blighted Davis Furniture building.

Cincinnati: Camp Washington: Development and News
Cool, thanks for the insider info!! Hopefully there are in progress type tours or photos as this moves along, Im sure there is tons of cool hidden history and features that will be uncovered. If that tank is removed and clear glass put into the tower windows that would be an amazing multi-story space. The could even open it up entirely like a bell tower and make it a terrace/covered lookout type space too. My suggestion would be to install a three story hanging neon sculpture in there that could be seen from I-75 as you pass by, or even an old school crosley logo to the "billboard" on the roof in neon in conjunction with their neighbors at the american sign museum.

I havent been there myself, but this is the first time i saw stairs in the Powell Crosley office. Any idea where they go? Surely not up to the water tank are they? From others that have been there i've heard how sketchy the tower ladder is and i can imagine it is worse with the missing windows (and ladder sections) now. I'm curious how much land they have surrounding the building and how they will use that too. Hopefully there will be plenty of outdoor & courtyard spaces spaces and for my own selfish needs rentable unfinished space in the less desirable parts for workshop/storage areas so i have no excuse moving there from my current set up in Delhi.

SleepyLeroy replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentOuch. As a retail designer, executive decisions by installers are the bane of my work life at times. Looks like someone made the call to put it on upside down. That and repeatedly explaining why all fonts dont have the same base line lead me to print lots and lots of full size templates.

I took it as the former inspection station and current equipment maintenance buildings at Central Parkway & Bates, though in reality both could move to Kahns and still have left over room.

Cincinnati: Camp Washington: Development and News
Since i went on an off topic bender, I'll get this on track by saying I hope they restore Powell Crosley's old office during the renovation. Even though it will be packed full of 300+ units and the office is in a prime location at the base of the tower it would be nice if there was space for a small museum type space in the lobby area or one of the floors to showcase the history of the company and access to tour the tiny former office space. Im sure it is all destroyed now, but up until the 90's it was still in decent shape until the vandalizing started during the Hosea years. Oh, and I call dibs on the tower condo.

If it is, that is amazing! I had no clue it could still be around. Thanks!

Flying Goose? Do you tan goose leather? Those Germans sure knew how to make some kick-ass factory buildings. This is a great angle looking down Hopple and if you zoom in on the farther back buildings you can see the school too. https://drc.libraries.uc.edu/handle/2374.UC/704609

Ah that one. Pretty sure that was a Tannery according to my dad who lived on Marshall ans some pics i found of it on the UC archive a while back. Ill try to track them down. On the peak of that gable was an awesome flying eagle statue that should have been moved to Music hall's facade when it was torn down.

It may be this that you are seeing, Abandoned for decades before the widening of Hopple and shuffling of business led to its demolition. The Shell station is there now. http://www.oldohioschools.com/hamilton_county_files/Hamilton%20Cincinnati%20Camp%20Washington.jpg

Cant be red either that's the color of the Cardinals. Clearly the only solutions are either pink or rainbow so that no one will be offended. BTW I love the yellow. Embrace it as Cincinnati Transit Yellow and assume the Steelers stole it from us. Plus they all stole it from the Cincinnati Stingers anyway......

SleepyLeroy replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Construction^ Just curious, was it a loud custom bike? When we were at the Dennison Hotel rally a few weeks back a dude on an big tired O.C.C type custom rolled by and purposely roared past us at a window rattling level that make people jump off the pavement and gave me a mini panic attack it was so loud and sudden. I figured it was probably someone non sympathetic to the cause, but a similar attitude it sounds to your crazy dude on a bike.

SleepyLeroy replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentA co-worker once came back to the office with a Wendy's bag and was thoroughly questioned and made fun of because of how many better options he had to walk past to get all the way to Wendy's. Times and views of fast food have definitely changed. I'm just glad I don't work on the east side of downtown because there doesn't seem to be nearly as many lunch options over there. With P&G and Western & Southern there should be more options that just Burrito Joes, Skyline and the Wich. P&G and Western&Southern also have in house cafeterias i believe. Back when my Dad was at W&S food was free but i bet that isn't the case anymore.

Cincinnati: State of Downtown
I've been looking at all the old CINCINNATI magazines that GOOGLE Books has on line recently and it is crazy full of ads in the 70's and 80's for little privately owned stores that just dont exist anymore. They either went out of business or just cashed out & didnt bother relocating when their block of the city was redeveloped. Plus there were tons of ads for the new suburban office and manufacturing parks trying to lure the little manufacturers and the smaller business out. Looking back at it now the downturn of the city in the 80's and 90's makes sense. THere was also a weird vibe in the articles of the city being for the big players and companies and the little folks getting in the way of us turning into a 'world class city'. Also funny to read all the love for the skywalk and all the new buildings that connected to it as if the ground was made of lava and filled with hobos and the skywalk was where the classy well to do people walked in the clouds above it all.

SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionPretty sure that was a marker to remember where a guy's body was found. Couldn't find any info on the web when I searched, but I vaguely remember it happening at some point in the 90's.

Cincinnati: Mt. Auburn: Development and News
SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionNothing new, just an old photo showing the above scenic view from the opposite direction (if you zoom in on the one in the link it is pretty clear). Lots of infill needed to get back this crazy amount of density again. but id love it if someone built a signature building at the top of the hill at the curve. Might tick off people across the street who have grown accustomed to the view though. https://drc.libraries.uc.edu/handle/2374.UC/726254
