  1. Yep, happens all the time, and sometimes even more blatant. http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/news/work-stopped-after-wrong-part-of-dayton-daily-news/nbyGJ/
  2. In that last image i was confused as to what the white sided building to the right of the Millennium Hotel was then i noticed a similar clad building on the roof of the old Enquirer building. Doh, just an optical illusion and they are hvac buildings on the roof of the old Enguirer bldg, not behind the Millennium at all.
  3. A bit of a monkeywrench in the works, but sometimes odd problems like building around existing buildings or incorporating them into a reworked design lead to interesting solutions. On the bright side, a good sign for the Dennison Hotel perhaps?
  4. Now that I look again looks as if the CHAPEL part wont fit, hopefully they blend it in nicely somehow.
  5. I saw that today too and thought i recognized it!! Used to pass it everyday on the way to work driving through South Fairmont. Sad the original building is going away, but at least this part can live on. Thanks for reminding me to check with your post. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Queen+City+Ave,+Cincinnati,+OH/@39.125379,-84.5587083,3a,27y,346.48h,85.52t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sNOQqfNq20aAEkUUW4lB8hg!2e0!6s%2F%2Fgeo3.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3DNOQqfNq20aAEkUUW4lB8hg%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D9.8488674%26pitch%3D0!7i13312!8i6656!4m2!3m1!1s0x8841b5b88f8f7c79:0x889a1284961a084
  6. OK, no mocking my 5 minute photoshop please, but WHY cant they see the potential in this building? They control the lot nextdoor already and the wonderful views that potential MONEY MAKING condos would have here. Across from the Aronoff, turn a wee bit of the parking to an landscaped yard for the residents, roof top deck. A sunlit brick wall of balconies. Have some vision! This is already here and anything that would ever be built here from an empty lot would not have anywhere Near the potential this has. Ugh. Love parking lots? They can even build multi deck parking for it with the free tax dollars the city likes to give to connected people for garages attached to new projects. Pe a POSITIVE influence on the city, dont just keep running with parking because it has worked for the family in the past, do something that could bring more money that a new lot for like 30 more cars could bring. They already own the building, bring in some outside help to get financing and grants and leverage the HUGE positive this could be to your investment. (RANT OVER)
  7. John was already taken. :|
  8. Recent Picture from WCPO. So which part is getting "restored" again? Just the top of the tower i guess.
  9. Imagine the views from the top if that was built in the Corryville location. From West Chester all the way south to Ft Thomas and beyond.
  10. Getting back to this version, though I'm betting the north facing wall that was removed for the addition gets replaced with a glass curtain wall or something "high-tech" looking. Cant see UC going back in time and restoring it as it was.
  11. I watched 1115 Vine get a new roof and refreshed/painted exterior when i had an office in the KROGER building back in 93 or 94. I could be wrong but i dont think it has had anyone in it since then, so it will be cool to see it come back to life and bring some activity down to that end of the block. BTW that office looking over OTR is what got this west side guy interested in urban life. I had lots to do, but could have been entirely entertained with watching things unfold out the window for 8 hours a day.
  12. I wanst around for the pre-renovation Kroger building, but did it look like the Drayton in Savannah looked? I've seen that in person and I would understand what is meant by the chaos. Its structure is so minimal that EVERYTHING inside is on view and becomes part of the exterior aesthetic. Crazy, but I can appreciate it in a Bladerunner, Kowloon walled city sort of way. http://onlineathens.com/stories/092902 https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2573/4027794813_b9d682dcf7_b.jpg
  13. For the moment most of these buildings are still standing, excluding the one on the right with the Dunlop Billboard and the frame building on the left that has the pipe sign. All will be gone soon and I'm assuming the roads rerouted as well. Not a big loss architecture wise, but so little of this area remains as it was from that era. You would think that as a westsider, Mayor Cranley would press to have at least one of the gateways to the west not be depressing. No disrespect to the residents by any means it is totally the fault of boring short sighted planning. Demolition and wacky flyover bridges on 6th st, A slowly disappearing lower Price Hill on 8th st and a reduced scope vision for Harrison/Queen City.
  14. I drive here every day and had high hope for the first iteration, but this new plan will make the middle seem like a big highway median, and any hope of the Queen city side to get redeveloped as a quieter side neighborhood wont happen with 50mph traffic zooming right by their front door. At least the old oxbow part of queen city that went to two way traffic can survive as it's own little island. The rest in the middle looks set for demo and even the funeral parlor and other buildings that were supposedly for sale (as long as they were moved) sitting dark and stripped of their historic doors and stained glass. Even the businesses at harrison and queen city are all empty except for the stationary company BP and the graphics place on the corner. A dark sad few miles as it stands now from the viaduct all the way to almost Wyoming. At least in the summer people are in the park by Grand, hopefully that spreads into the new 'park' once complete but if they just reduce it to a dry creek bed and trail vs the themed neighborhood park that was promised i wonder how many people will bother to visit. I don't understand the logic here for changing course, other than the money promised for this will be used to pay for more popular projects that may or may not include biergardens elsewhere.
  15. Here is the image you all were talking about. Sooner than I expected, and from the enquirer today.
  16. And they snuck in Nashville's Batman building on the far left. On the left is Christ Church not the Batman Building I'm guessing. They do look the same in profile view now that you point it out. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_Church_Cathedral_%28Cincinnati%29#/media/File:Cincinnati-christ-church-cathedral.jpg
  17. Just looked at it again for the first time in a while, that moving would be trippy.
  18. Maybe the Miro that used to be inside can be projected onto the exterior as a moving mobile?? We can do it!!!! Not me necessarily, but this city has the talent to.
  19. Wouldn't even need a permanent video screen (or permission of the owners :wink) to add some interest to that corner if i've learned anything from Luminosity.
  20. I dont remember the width exactly but everytime I drove on it and traffic was oncoming I would scare my passenger at the moment by saying I accidentally drove the wrong way on a one lane bridge. I sure didnt look much wider than the car when you were going across and seeing water through the trusses ramped up the danger. The 'climb the bridge' sure was a dud due to the safety overkill/lack of a dramatically different view (vs the Australia bridge climb) cost and rules like no cameras but what about this idea. Purple people bridge zip line! The one down at opening day looked fun, and the speed sure would make the view more dramatic. Heck you could even make it two ways. Stage one you fly among the trusses above the area where the tracks used to be, and stage two hangs over the edge above the river. Saves having to walk back and since you arent above the pedestrian area, bring anything you want to record your flight camera wise just realize if you drop it it belongs to the river.
  21. 450 Grand looks to be a condo on the nice end of Grand with a view so not entirely worthless. Plus google caught a tree dwelling leprechaun as they drove by. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.099249,-84.561828,3a,35.3y,77.9h,88.02t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sIhBnp-459xv64yqsoWtAVA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
  22. Since the street was rebuilt relatively recently, I doubt they will rip out that concrete to put in a center island. I'm actually surprised they didn't plan ahead and make the center lane a separate slab that could easily be ripped out when the turn lane became unnecessary. My bet is that they just restripe it to continue the left turn lane heading east as there may be an entrance to the future garage there. I doubt any mistake was made. We'll see soon.
  23. Anyone on here know who filmed the Stearns & Foster Smokestack demolition with the quadcopter toady? It was one of the spectators not someone from the companies involved. That thing was supprisingly rock steady hovering in the breeze and waiting for the thud. If i didnt have to go back to work I would have looked to track them down.
  24. Back in the mid 2000's when I was a trustee in the CUF Communtiy Council I recall John Cranly bringing up a redevelopment proposal to us that his group had for that side of the street and he was taken aback at he negative reaction from those in the room when he wanted to push for eminent domain to get the "blighted properties" that were still occupied at the time removed so his deal could move forward. We were in the midst of similar development tactics on Stratford and in the business district and had little patience for someone else waving big plans and tearing down buildings on another side (though on the far edge) of the neighborhood. To be honest i dont even remember what the plan looked like but it was to be build across from the entrance from the Fourm Apts I believe. Outside folks never got that I lived there for what it is/was and not what it 'could be' once everything there was removed and replaced with 'new'. Despite the issues at the time we saw what Corryville was doing (and would soon become) and wanted no part of it. I think developers saw us as being against change but we saw what could happen once the wrecking ball started a rollin'.
  25. Excellent news on the Sears building, I had written that off as a goner based on the chatter I had heard. Not the flashiest place, but I love all the brickwork and details it has. UC would have a cool Art Deco renovation in it's mix of buildings similar to XU and the Coke Bottling Plant HQ (and now that Wilson is gone it may be the only one up on campus).
