Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
SleepyLeroy replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI couldn't find the original post with the hilariously bad project render, but i take back my laughing at it. This place is amazing. and on a lot that would have otherwise been left empty. At Main & Peete. Most people would never second guess that it wasn't a rehab of an original building.

Another fun anecdote about this building, i just watched CAROL for the first time last night and this building plays the part of the toy store where the two main characters meet. They even used some of the left over displays to recreate the toy store set on the second floor. I guess that all got cleared out when the storage place moved in but crazy that it was still there after the store closed in 1980. https://www.cincinnati.com/story/tvandmediablog/2014/04/22/carol-cate-blanchett-rooney-mara-oskamp-nolting/8000481/

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
If the garage that is in the base is itself lit, and these are just openings in the perforated grill to bring in fresh air then the texture is lit as a feature of the shape perhaps and does not have individual "lamps" for each cut out. At least that is my take on it, hopefully that is the case. I use the exit at Glendale Milford that millions of dollars went into im sure but the decorative lighting on those towers lasted only a few months for some of the strips. I'd bet 75% of it is gone now and it looks awful.

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
I ride it every day, but it could easily be an intersection with a stop light at the end just like 8th st. It would only add a few minutes to a trip to town, and you already have to exit and sit at two light to go to north 75, one or two to go south isnt going to be a tragedy especially if it simplifies things in Queensgate too.

When that time comes I demand a third even HIGHER bridge over the existing 2 bridges.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
Maybe they will build a new space and transfer them into it, because based on the render the corner space they are in now gets turned into an outdoor recessed cove on the Vine St. side.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
I'm betting that is the plan for the alley side. Not what you are meaning i'd guess but it would save some of the previous stacked bond brick look.

I could be wrong, but the metal textured panels also look to include an uplighting element. That will make this corner really stand out as you approach from the east, and help bring some energy into this spot.

Not gonna lie.....I love the Terrace Hilton in it's original Moderinist form but i'm really digging alot of the choices they made on this. The stepback at street level on Vine, the return of the two story open base, elimination of the covered car check-in on 6th, keeping the spirit of the original massing, the addition of balconies to the residential portion, keeping the scaling of the roof top gormet room, keeping the terrace plaza at 6th and Vine atop the base........ I even like the glass addition to the Vine Street side of the residential tower part with the new glass rail deck. The textures 3/d metal replacement to the brick is shocking but i like it and it should kill all the negative comments by the people who complain how it is just a flat box at the street level. This is much better than the plan that just made the base a glass curtain wall and painted all the brick that remained a dark 'flipper' gray.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Carew Tower
Any thoughts on if the exterior lighting will make a comeback? I really miss seeing this building lit in it's art deco glory competing with all the colorful LED lit modern buildings at night but if it is going all residential I cant imagine the new tenants would want floodlights lighting up their rooms at night. Plus i imagine those exterior terraces would be needed for outdoor patios not full of electrical equipment Any thoughts or comparative buildings that have both residents and lighting to the extent that the Carew used to have? I'm sure moving to LED would be in the cards over the halogen spot lights of old no matter how much illumination they go with, but getting that former glow would be great.

Cincinnati: West End: Development and News
Oh crap dont get me started on Zada again. I looked them up recently because of an Instagram Post on Midwest Modern of Bloom and it looked to me like the address of 'ZADA Development' had changed from the original small kitchen rehab shop on Staten Island NY to a small real estate shop on Staten island. These folk are playing games and will never do anything to those schools. The city needs to put pressure on them to do something or sell to someone who will. Just checked the LoopNet- dont know who is that address they print that is in Manhattan. I think the son who owned this project is playing off the old man's name and business success and is too busy partying based on his social media to care about anything here.

Cincinnati: CUF / Corryville: Development and News
SleepyLeroy replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionWow i lived in CUF for 20yrs starting in 1991 and would visit my grandma who liveed on the Riddle rd side of campus since the mid 70's and have no recollection of this building being round at all. I even visited it at times i'm sure. Weird. I wonder if it was to mimic the water tower that used to be there before this?

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
I heard the same they tossed the bricks from this section to dumpsters in the alley but also messed up/removed all the flashing that went up the knee walls on the roof pretty much making it rain indoors. You can see from the pic on the left that the brick that should be covered by the roof flashing is all exposed, and this is from 2017. I hope they attempt to recreate the removed part as it made the gourmet room section balanced but with the Huntington bank building built right next to it now it isn't nearly as visible as it was.

THANKS!!!! I saw that on instagram and wondered where it was. Probably for all the smokers in the alley to get back to their work after 5min.

The Auditor page has an OG facade pic when it was still Oscamp Nolting. Not a two story storefront, but much better than it is now. Too bad that old neon marque above the right side door isnt still there. Id love to see the city in it's neon shopping everywhere prime.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
SleepyLeroy replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentWonder how soon it will be till we get one of these? Surprised that it is even a thing for one, but also that we don't have one already up in Oakley or something. https://chickennpickle.com/

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
Thank you very much for watching. I've walked by and driven past after dark and didnt even see the giant new hole. Below is a photo from the post 'Hotel' days with the possible false drop ceiling. Will be an interesting adventure watching this place come back I just hope it isnt as extensive a "remodel' as the sears building in Avondale had to go through due to it's deterioration and new purpose.

If anyone gets some pictures of what is under that red fabric awning post them on here. There is speculation that the original one is in some state underneath and it would be cool to see one last time.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fort Washington Way Cap
Thanks for the info, some day I'll have the extra monthly info to support all the good media around here, but Business Courier is a bit pricier than some of the others.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fort Washington Way Cap
I remember City council asking taxpayers for additional funds for the highway caps (piers for future caps), i could be wrong but i don't remember any other groups donating at the time. Good on them if they did give some, but i don't want to give them any credit if they 100 percent did not. Advocating and donating are different things. I'm glad they are thinking of additional uses, but they have plenty of money to come up with their own plan and make it happen. Dont just tag on to something that others are working on already even if it is temporary. They could instead say, We support the (X project) so much that we want to be the first to buy into it by committing X amount to buy land and make it happen.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fort Washington Way Cap
Welp, scrap all those other cool ideas, John Barrett wants the FWW caps now. This is the second project he has tried to hijack for moving tennis out of Mason (the slimmed down Brent Spence Replacement plan being the first). Come up with your own plan John! https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2022/09/30/john-barrett-on-fort-washington-way-decks.html

Cincinnati: CUF / Corryville: Development and News
SleepyLeroy replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionIve been away from it for a while, but i think the reason Corryville is doomed is that the neighborhood group IS the developers. They dont and wont oppose demolition. CUF tried at times, and won a few battles with the help of others (St George/ Lyons St development) but it is hard for volunteers to fight funded full time developers who have momentum, paid employees and city connections.

Cincinnati: Demolition Watch
SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and PreservationNothing new, but this popped up in my head today and it is crazy how many places in this video are either gone now or entirely remodeled and unrecognizable. It is like a who's who of former places and was just filmed 13yrs ago. Even in the quick flashes they managed to catch things like the red cross building and demolished skywalks. I'm calling it the Three Doors Down Effect. God Save the Bellevue Hill Park Pergola, i hope they didn't doom it too!!!
