Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionWhat is the deal with the oddly placed logo there on the right? it looks like they just used one of their ATM wayfinding pole signs. Still 100% better than the permanently there temporary stage. no more seeing all the equipment and chaos backstage as a welcome from 5th street.

Weird Real Estate Listings
HAHA!!! I know this basement. Right near my parents and they are in the middle of a "Reno" which may explain the camera-shyness.. It belonged to a woman who passed at 98 and lived there since the 40's then became a rental sometimes for the Cincinnati Christian students and others. School closed so the owner wanted out of renting & sold it to the current owners. I bet my parents it would be painted gray for the 'gram and to attract the young folk and it was. Pretty cool spot with a bunch of renos and like <10min to city hall if you get the lights. Yes i recognized the garage and not the address,i used to cut yer grass so that she wasnt out there at 70 with a push mower and she would give me cookies....and like $20. Had that P&G money from years of making the Crisco. Seriously! (am i sounding appropriately 'Jake like" yet Jake? Hope it sells for that. will help out my folks some day who have been there since '72 .

SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and PreservationTBH Steam radiators rock. My 1936 tudor revival has them and I would have a hard time going back to hot air heat. Especially with pets.

SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and PreservationIt is his family home too, they have been selling land off the Estate for years so this is no surprise, It is just another way to make money and no desire to see it become a treasured home for another family by lowering the price like the rest of us who are selling homes may have to do when it wont sell for the desired price. You cant stop these people. http://cincinnatirefined.com/arts-design/history-of-2581-grandin-road-hyde-park-cincinnati-barrett-estate

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fort Washington Way Cap
Another at the end of the 6th st viaduct near Evans street. It messed up traffic for weeks when they cut the wall to put the base in so i hope the upper part is installed quickly.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionMy brother and the folk from the market put those lights on there a while back to draw attention to them as most people blew right past going both up and down the hill when they were installed at the end of last year. The blinky lights have helped. Guerilla traffic planning, but you are correct on how sketchy that was, i lived on the Marshall dead end for 18 years and there were many close calls. Never trust blinkers and where cars on extreme downward grades are intending to go.

Cincinnati: Walnut Hills / East Walnut Hills: Development and News
Wrong thread but the owners of the OG Izzy's & Former Poppies are doing just that as a tantrum for not getting their way to demolish it and build a ultra modern condo/daycare/school. It is just a block from city hall and couldnt be more of an eyesore to all around it. Grrrr. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1048592,-84.5175721,3a,75y,164.51h,103.01t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1smHBC8tvnnrh2z39Eo8LqNA!2e0!6s%2F%2Fgeo3.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3DmHBC8tvnnrh2z39Eo8LqNA%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D238.56712%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i16384!8i8192

Just looking through these again, and do you all think the building with the small spires (near the center) is the little synagogue that still remains in the alley now called Ruth Lyons lane in the backstage area? If so it is amazing it is still around after all teh changes around it. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Cincinnati,+OH/@39.1032066,-84.5130895,54a,35y,54.88h,45.96t /data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x884051b1de3821f9:0x69fb7e8be4c09317!8m2!3d39.1031182!4d-84.5120196

Cincinnati: Historic Photos
I rarely stumble across old Cincinnati building photos i haven't seen before, but at my work we are helping to develop a timeline wall for the little museum at the Sisters of Mount Notre Dame de Namur in Reading and this is one of the images they have of their former home downtown. Here is the caption that goes with the image. 321 East Sixth Street, Cincinnati, Ohio, circa 1945. This “Cradle of the Institute in the United States” was sold to the Red Cross in 1945. The museum is closed due to Covid-19 now as it is also in a building that houses the retirement home and nursing wing but if you like weird little bits of history it is pretty cool. They have building fragments, personal items and lots of small artifacts on the history of the order from it's beginning in Europe till today along with tons of photos and paperwork. This building was in the hands of the Red Cross for a bit but was torn down along with most everything in this pic for the oldest main building of P&Gs current HQ.

I get what you are saying, but that doesn't seem to stop the Water Works or Duke. I think they prefer to cut up new streets. ?

Wow i didnt even notice that now i cant not see it. I originally thought you meant the water/light damage. Now i have to track down an original to see what is what and if any of those homes were really there.

Cincinnati: Liberty Street Road Diet
Based on the cutbacks of projects to make up for the Covid-19 budget shortfalls the Mayor just spoke of, who else thinks this will be on top to get the ax? I completely disagree if it does, i just know of the Mayors feet dragging during the whole process.

Not sure what that means but i think for at least the last 2 years there was a few portable HVAC units under the vehicle entrance with vents running through holes cut into the windows. Something was wrong with it.

Cincinnati: Demolition Watch
SleepyLeroy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and PreservationLooks like this place in coming down this week, if not today. I believe it was a rail station at some point in the past but was most recently (30 or more years ago) a marble studio. Crazy high ceilings inside and some floors had a roof mounted conveyor beam to transport heavy stone about. Kinda sad to see it go after sticking around so long all by itself.

Cincinnati/NKY International Airport
It was here again in the mid 90s too. I went down one of the trails at the ends of the runways to get a pic of it flying over and it ended up going the other way. Doh! This was pre 9-11 to so im betting id be arrested if i went there again to try the same thing on an active runway area. I saw the one you mention above fly over my parents house in Price Hill. It was breathtaking.

Haha! Not that i know but ive been to many of the weird tours and walks about town. Hopefully more now once it warms up I love seeing the more obscure places, I think the last bigger one was the US Chili building that the Preservation Collective put together.
