  1. Stough group is gonna love when that goes up.
  2. Good to know. Although I do believe incorrect surveying has been mentioned for other shifts in the rails elsewhere. Could be wrong.
  3. Yes but why should my children even witness the event of a man being brutually gunned down, with his blood and guts spilling all over the pavement? Yes, it wasn't random, but the fact still stands: I don't want to witness a stray bullet potentially hitting me or my car, nor any of my friends or family. And I especially don't want my kids to witness a slain man pounding out his last breaths while he drowns in his own pool of blood. Stop with this OTR is generally safe rhettoric. It's idiotic, and just sounds as if your being paid to promote OTR by the city. That bullet could've EASILY hit a bystander, so the point stills stands, OTR is still the wild-wild west, and those who are traveling down there and trying to make a life are much like the brave first frontiers. If you want to risk your life go ahead. That's a straw man argument. If you want to live in a bubble, go for it. That's your prerogative. But the world is a dangerous place. You're only marginally more likely to see a gun every go off in OTR now than any of the other outer townships of Cincinnati. I've gone down there probably 3-4 times a week (even more now that I'm working down there) for years now. I've never seen anything like that happen and I couldn't name anyone who has. It's so isolated. I really hope you give it a chance and walk down there with different eyes and can appreciate the beauty of the neighborhood for what it is now. But if not, again, your loss.
  4. Wow yeah. I wish this site had a down vote feature. Look the two murders in the last two weeks really suck. Just from a humanity standpoint, it's pointless violence. But they're also not random acts of violence. It's important to keep that in mind. The same night that the shootings happened by Neons, I parked my car on 12th St just a little further east from the bar and it was fine. The reality is, there is virtually no danger for you and your kids to walk around these areas of OTR. The scourge of "gang bangers and dope slingers" randomly targeting citizens down there exists only in your mind and on local news.
  5. I think John has mentioned it on here before. But I belive the shifting lanes go back hundreds of years to poor assessments way back when.
  6. Does anyone have an updated map of the segments of track that have already been laid? I'm curious if we can get a quick visual representation.
  7. The dunnhumby name has so much brand equity in the analytics field. This one is a major head scratcher.
  8. You'd have to get more creative... but it seems to me that the Banks / Freedom Way make way more sense for these types of events anyway. 5th street made sense before the creation of the Banks. But now that there's an option that doesn't disrupt the entire flow of downtown, isn't that ideal? You wouldn't have to navigate around the location of the festival itself to park and hell, you could...TAKE THE STREETCAR THERE! I see this as nothing more than a way for Cranley to say "See? Look how stupid fixed rail is! It can't move out of the way when we need it to. Now, here's Charlie Winburn to present a slide on Rubber Wheeled Trollies..."
  9. I must have missed this story a year and a half ago: http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2013/10/21/new-restaurant-bar-project-planned.html?page=all I wonder why Uptown is dragging their feet with this? They made some improvements to the attached parking garage and with VP3 opening this fall and another development getting started on Taft, seems like the area would be ripe for new bars/restaurants. Especially when you consider Kroghetto's redevelopment getting underway. The only thing I can think is that they're waiting to wrap on VP3 before starting on that plot.
  10. Last Streetcar tour, but I have a feeling it would be a good idea in 3 years or so to start doing tours to see how the MAX line integrates. Also, the feds are helping Tampa study expansion feasibility (for historic streetcar... but still): http://www.bizjournals.com/tampabay/news/2015/04/22/tampas-historic-streetcar-gets-1m-boost-from-fdot.html?ana=twt

  12. Did some research on the shopping center. Looks like Uptown Rental Properties bought up the property in 2013 for $1.5m through their Gaslight Ventures LLC. Dan Schimberg's signature is on the conveyance fee forms. Which is good news to me. I don't see them buying up that property unless they intend to demo and build housing/mixed development on the land.
  13. Is this garbage getting torn down any time soon? Exact thing I was wondering. I got giddy when I saw most of the places had vacated in that photo. That's the biggest remaining scourge on that street.
  14. It never fails to amaze me how resilient the development of downtown/OTR seems to be to saturation. People keep coming out of the woodwork. I just got back in to town on Saturday after a red-eye flight from Portland. After sleeping for about 7 hours, my girlfriend and I decided to head downtown to Taft's Ale House for dinner since neither of us had a chance to go yet. I'll also note that it was an absolute perfect night weather-wise. We got down there around 10 PM and headed up to the second floor of Taft, where we were told they were no-longer serving food. Bummer. No worries, as we decided to just hit up one of the tried-and-true establishments. As we were walking south from Taft's on Race, I was amazed at how many people were out and about on the street. There's been some pretty good renovations around Taft and on the streetcar line over the last year or so, but still, a heavy crowd. It impressed me more as the night went on because everywhere we went, you name the place, it was packed. All the restaurants and bars on Vine were bursting at the seams (we eventually settled down at Abigail St). Same story on Main St as we walked there later. Same story again as we went to meet up with some friends on Walnut St by Aronoff. We've barely scratched the surface of nice weather and already the city feels so alive. I have often wondered the same thing about saturation. But each time I wonder, I look around and realize there are few signs that anyone is getting stretched thin by the development. There's plenty of room for growth. Also, my totally uneducated prediction for 2015: The Year of Race. I think we'll be hearing about far more projects up and down that entire corridor. Especially near-north of Tafts and near the new dunnhumby Center.
  15. Cincinnatians that don't get out much are going to be absolutely shocked when they see it in person for the first time. Most of the opponents still think we're getting a "trolley". Should be a great time to go, right after the new Orange Line and Tilikum Crossing (the bridge for everything but private automobiles) open. ^ Travis, that's what I'm thinking. John, I may be interested. I'll let you know. I'm actually in Portland as I type this (leaving tomorrow) but its never too early to think about my return trip.
  16. Not surprising. They barely looked open after they went independent.
  17. I am so so so so so glad that we went with the light rail tracks in Cincy. I am in Portland right now for work (you're going to have to fight me to get me back on a plane) and I've been using a lot of transit since I've gotten here. The streetcar is awesome (although they probably need to add some cars, rush hour gets packed!), but I've gotta say I'm a huge fan of the MAX. It would be great to have that dual integration in the future.
  18. No. Cincinnati is just obsessed with nicknames and abbreviations. Just look at University of Cincinnati (UC): CEAS (College of Engineering and Applied Science) CECH (College of Education, Criminal Justice, & Human Services) COB (College of Business, also now LCOB for Lindner College of Business) CCM (College-Conservatory of Music) DAAP (Design, Architecture, Arts, and Planning) AACRC (African American Cultural & Resource Center) ...actually I googled UC acronyms and found this. Dear lord it's worse than I remember: https://ucdirectory.uc.edu/Abbreviations.asp
  19. Forget about the crown. Just look at the Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland. Way cooler:
  20. So wait, from here on out you'll use the kiosks there? I guess I'm just out of the loop on how those kiosks work. Haven't seen as much press about the sudden switch.
  21. Not sure if you would get in trouble! But. I would wait until the tracks are done and they clear the pebbles that have collected in the rails over the months. Otherwise... :-o
  22. At one time, there were conversations about renovating the YMCA building to be the President's residence. I doubt that's still in play since he bought a house in Mt. Lookout. I've also heard other ideas for the building, haven't heard anything solid though.

With the Eastern Corridor project probably dead, I'm wondering where the battle lies on Wasson Way trail vs rail vs rail & trail? I haven't heard much lately. Are there any groups working to bring the two advocate groups together so they aren't pitted against each other by the administration?
  24. Has anyone taken any updated photos recently?
