IKEA - Cleveland
^Again as stated before, there is not enough land available for an IKEA at Steelyard. The largest available open space at Steelyard is only 11-12 acres, plus there are a few smaller pieces of land still available for development. The Best Buy site is being redeveloped currently for a fitness facility, and even if that were not happening, the former Best Buy site would not be big enough for IKEA. If IKEA would have been planned from the time Steelyard Commons was first proposed, then yes IKEA could have been a part of the development, but now retail already there would have to be removed to make room for an IKEA. I do not see this happening.

Wrong! Three teams have won the WS with winning streaks of 18 games in the regular season, or more. 1. Chicago White Sox in 1906 2. NY Yankees in 1947 3. NY Yankees in 1953

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
There are many opportunities out there for those who are not into or able to get into computer type jobs, or do not want to go to a 4 year college, and other types of tech collar positions. With the baby boomers retiring at an ever increasing rate, shortages are already happening in the nursing filed, plumbers, construction workers, machinist, auto mechanic's, and on and on. This are the jobs for those who are of an economic aimless stage. There are plenty of companies out there who are willing to pay/educate these individuals so as to fill the jobs available, or will become available in the future. Community Colleges, special vocational training schools are out there for those who desire to make a good living at a good wage. The places that could help to guide individuals to these fields in need, and the training available are job centers, union halls, community organizations, etc..

This is the post from back in July, of which I am a fan of. But the most recent renderings imo are horrible, and in 20 years will be so undesirable. Anyone know why the big change in design?

Re: most of the post from today. The attached article is from 4 years ago, yet it offers insight on why dem's/repub's think the way they do about cities/states. Democrats Run America’s Ten Poorest Cities 4 years ago I have come to believe that chain emails may one day lead to the death of our society. Chain emails alone are responsible for the creation and the success of at least one popular website, snopes.com. Chain emails (and their ugly step-sister, the forward) are the bane of every email user’s technological needs. We must make ourselves more adept with modern technology so we have to use the internet and email… which leads us to receive junk mail at a level far worse than anything the old mainstay, snail mail, used to give us. But not all chain mail/forward/junk mail is bad; in fact, there are times when these pieces of technological dross are downright informative!........... http://eaglerising.com/1912/democrats-run-americas-ten-poorest-cities/

^ ^^Instead of what could have been, or speculation, how about a few facts that are true/accurate. Indians 53 wins on the road this year are the most ever for them in regular season. 14 wins on the road in a row broke the old record of 13. In their own divisional games against Chi, Det, KC, and Min, the tribes record per team for 2017 is KC 12-7, Det 13-6, Chi 11-5, and Min 10-6, with 6 games left (3 with Min, 3 with Chi). Very impressive.

Obviously, you are allowed to proclaim your choice as to what is best, or not. But there are probably just as many people out there who think that Campbell's is the best. Now, I have never been to this Kernels, but have been to Campbell's (way to many times), so I cannot say if one is better than the other, but what is good for the city/downtown as a whole is that Campbell's is going to set up shop downtown, and we can most likely all agree that is a good thing, and wish them success.

Cleveland: Campus District
Here is a list of properties from the CSU web site of available housing. But it too is not all inclusive of available housing for CSU students off campus. One choice not listed below, but found elsewhere on the CSU web site is a place called University Studio Apts at 29th & Euclid. The info on this apt building for students says there are 150 units. Not sure what they mean by "units" as the building does not look big enough to hold 150 "apts"/units. Another choice, 2320 Superior is marketed for students of CSU, and it is not on this list also. According to the info on 2320 Superior, it has 11units/34 beds. As CSU continues to grow, so have the number of housing options adjacent to campus. These communities are just steps from campus and provide a wealth of living options. (says the CSU web site) 1.) Reserve Square 2.) Statler Arms 3.) The Edge on Euclid 4.) 1900 Euclid Avenue Lofts 5.) University Lofts 6.) The Langston 7.) The Domain at Cleveland 8.) Walker & Weeks 9.) Euclid Commons 10.) Fenn Tower 11.) University Commons So, with all the on-campus living, off-campus living, near-campus living in the Campus District, 4500 students being non-commuters is a good thing. Berkman has said openly that he would like to get the enrollment of the school to around 25,000, with at least 10,000 living "on campus." Now that is a goal we can all agree upon.

So, what impact will this have on the CLE in general, or the move of the HQ to Key tower? Time will tell. Forest City to weigh sale, merger to 'enhance shareholder value' Forest City Realty Trust Inc., parent of Forest City Washington, will explore a potential merger or sale, among other options to "enhance stockholder value," the company announced Monday...... https://www.bizjournals.com/washington/news/2017/09/12/forest-city-to-weigh-sale-merger-to-enhance.html

What's happening with Louisville KY. How did it increase in pop by 341,000 people from 2000>2010? Does not seem correct to me from what I know about the city.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
I think Cleveland has the capacity- downtown had roughly 150,000 workers back in the 90s, even more the further you go back. The infrastructure to support 50,000 workers is already here- but without question if Amazon were to come here or any other city in the Midwest, it would be a game-changer. The current office supply couldn't support 50,000 workers, so new buildings would need to be built. The impact of 50,000 people making an average of $100,000 each would unquestionably create jobs due to people having to eat, shop, sleep, and play somewhere locally. I hope the push for Amazon to move to the CLE was hard enough to at least have Cleveland considered. I've always heard and seen statistics that the downtown CLE workforce back in the 70's - 80's was approx. 125k, and as of approx. 2010 - current is about 95k. So, if the CLE were chosen for the Amazon HQ2 city, it could easily handle the additional 50k as 30k of the 50 would only get us back to a level from 40 - 50 years ago. The downtown infrastructure has not changed from the 70-80's to current. At least not the size of the streets, parks, underground utilities, etc. The number of buildings though has, along with how some of the buildings use has changed (office to residential and/or hotel).

Dan Gilbert does not really care about the CLE, and this article proves it even more. I've said all along that DG only cares about making as much money as he can off of NEO citizens to cover his cost of his business' here, and taking the profits back to Detroit.

Yes, last nights attendance was only 21,000+, but don't forget yesterdays game was suppose to be a 1:10pm start and was moved to prime time at the last minute. So, how many people who had tickets, or wanted to go to a day game had to forgo attending the night game because of the last minute change. We will never know, but I bet if the game would have stayed a day game, the crowd who have been over 30k.

Actually, if one wants to dust off some old unbuilt project, and include the old Post Office facility on Huron Rd, then another opportunity to me after the May Co/Jacobs PS lot/Weston Super Block would have to be Tower City Center along Huron Rd. Amazon could start with the old Post Office Building for phase 1; Phases 2, 3, 4 could all be build along Huron Rd to Ontario Ave., and if need be even include buildings along Ontario Ave. toward the Hope Memorial Bridge.

Re: MM potential move. In reading the articles concerning the possible MM move, what I do no see is any mention of the 450-500 employees currently based in the Toledo area. Anyone have any insight into whether, or not, MM will be moving those jobs to the CLE area?

Prospect/Euclid Ave. would be a good choice. As I already stated, the May Co Bldg. is the starting point with 500,000+ sq. ft. already available. A second phase could be a new structure on the site of the old May Co. parking garage. The old May Co parking garage site could easily hold a 1 million+ sq. ft. building. Phase 3 could be two buildings on the site of the demolished Hippodrome Theatre. One structure on Euclid Ave and the other on Prospect Ave. Structures here could be 500,000+ sq. ft. each. Another site for additional phases could be the NuCLEus site if the NuCLEus development currently proposed is not built. And there is also the site of the proposed/unbuilt Ferari Dealership/Condo project on Huron & Ontario Ave. This area of downtown would have Amazon Employees within a 5-10 minute walk of all others, and be in the heart of downtown for easy access to public transportation. It would also eliminate quite a few surface parking lots.

Totally agree with your comments. But I think there are two other areas that could work for an HQ like this. The Opportunity Corridor being one, even though along the OP I don't think the infrastructure is in place. The second spot that I think could work for an Amazon HQ2 is the May Co. building on PS. It has the initial 500,000 sq ft of space Amazon is seeking. And for future expansion, Amazon could build on the old May Co parking garage site, Jacobs PS site, and of course the super block site in the Ware House District.

I like the new renderings, with the exception of the white stripes on the eastern facing facade. I think the first rendering of the updated design is not necessary accurate. Why does the first rendering showing the east side of the building show white stripes, but all other renderings look like the building has two shades of grey stripes? Could the first rendering of the apt building on the CPC photo gallery be wrong, or is only the side of the building to have white stripes? If only the eastern facing portion of the apt building is to have white stripes, this has got to change. And please no white stripes on the garage either.

Cleveland: Old Brooklyn Neighborhood Discussion
Replies #398 - 401 are spot on. Just to add a few things; if you are looking for homes constructed around 1910-1930, OB is the place to find thousands of them, and most are in decent shape. For homes of the 1950-1970's, there are three areas of OB that feature these types of homes, all of which are in the same part of OB, the eastern end. A bunch of ranch homes are on Plymouth Ave. which is off of S. Hills Dr. North; there is the Sky's neighborhood which is east of OH-176 off of Spring Rd.; and the other section of 1950-1970's ranch or split-levels are off W. 11th St. between Spring Rd and Schaff Rd. There are also a lot of Cape Cod Bungalow's throughout OB. The largest selection of this style home are in the OB North neighborhood which is in the area of Ridge Rd & Memphis Ave. This sub-neighborhood of OB borders the Brookside Park Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks. The oldest part of OB with homes that go back to the 1800's would be north of Memphis Ave. and west of Pearl Rd. IMO there are a lot of beautiful homes in this area, and some are ripe for renovation/restoration. The heart of OB is considered to be Pearl Rd at Broadview Rd. This is the area in which the CDC is working to establish a go to place for locals and outsiders, with new businesses unique to OB. It is a long time coming though, and has a long way to go. But again, OB is no OC/Tremont/Detroit Shoreway as others have stated already. There are no large shopping centers in OB, so most of your shopping would have to be outside of the neighborhood. But as others have already said, there are some mom & pop places that people in the neighborhood (outside too) love to frequent (Honey Hut, Dina's, etc...). The most expensive homes in OB would be the South Hills section and the OB North section. And imo the most beautiful street in OB is Oak Park Ave. which is only one block north of Lowe Park which has a farmers market every Tuesday in the summer.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2017
^^Sorry, but I don't want "an act" for mayor. I want a person with Integrity, honesty, responsible, etc.... I want a person for mayor who can get this city on the move again. Like it was in the early 1900's, with growth in population, culture, stature. One who can get the population growing again with the things they put into place as mayor. Like more police to serve the community; neighborhood growth through new/rehabbed housing, new and/or expanded businesses, parks and bike/hike paths; a clean/safe city; and a great transportation system to get people to their destination. Just to name a few things. Education is a key too. With approximately 65% of the students still not graduating from high school in the CLE, the new mayor must work with the corporate community, non-profit community, philanthropy community, to get the children of Cleveland educated. The current mayor has been in office too long, and he just does not cut it for me. Neither do any of the other career politicians (Brewer, Johnson, Reed). I am hopeful that the residents of the CLE will finally wake up and vote the career politicians out at both levels of city government (council and mayor). That the new mayor will fundamentally make changes that will make the CLE more desirable for new businesses to be started here, or moved here; that the people of NEO and the nation will say wow I want to be a part of what is happening in the CLE.
