  1. Another reason for closing West 29th from Detroit to Franklin and make it pedestrian only. I was at Mason's creamery the other day when I overheard / eavesdropped on the conversation next to me. It was a young man, who obviously grew up in the neighborhood, speaking to his friend. The young man mentioned the new proposed Project 29 and said "I would rather see the land vacant than more gentrification come to this neighborhood and price all of the residents out of the neighborhood." to which his friend replied "You realize you wouldn't be eating this ice cream right now if it were not for gentrification." Perhaps the best response I have ever heard in the perennial debate over gentrification. I understand not wanting the neighborhood to change and nightlife to come into a neighborhood... but this is on Detroit Road, let the neighborhood fabric be insulated behind, let the thoroughfare thrive and modernize. Why is the proposed Project 29 a good reason for closing off W. 29th St.? There is parking on W. 29th from Detroit to Franklin currently, so by closing off W. 29th that would only add to any parking problem created by building the Project 29 development. W. 29th Street from Detroit Ave. to Franklin Ave is not at a point where I would think there is justification for, or the need currently to vacate it as a through street. Would leaving W. 29th Street as a through street not help with the flow of traffic, rather then hinder traffic flow as the area around it grows with more apts/condo's/homes, and additional retail? I don't know, only time will tell. What I do know is having three apt projects currently under construction in this part of OC, and the Project 29 development in the works can only be beneficial to OC, current and future retailers, and the CLE as a whole. Now if only Keiffe'rs could be revived (just without the Politicians).
  2. Get over it. It's just as relevant a question, maybe even more so then your guestion.
  3. Is allowing criminals to get away with a crime safe for the community?
  4. The CC has not walled itself off. I don't see any fences around it. If it wasn't for the Clinic and its continuing expansion over the years, what would the area look like without the Clinic's investment. I would think many more empty lots then there are now, and many more structures that would still be on Cleveland's list of buildings "to be" demolished. And why is the Clinic being singled out as the bad guy, and yet just to the east of it there is One University Circle being constructed without a peep about it not being built in such a way as to embrace urban design standards. One University Circle is designed like a suburban apt tower. It only abuts one street ( Deering Ave) on its south side; its other three sides are not urban friendly. Yet everyone thinks One University Circle is a great design. The only development that is being planned to fit into an urban setting is the very far of University Circle City Center concept. And there is no guarantee it will come to fruition.
  5. Getting rid of crime may have been one reason the CC bulldozed all those buildings, but it most likely was not the only reason. How many of those buildings were already boarded up, vandalized, and had no chance of being returned to useful life because of the changing neighborhood at the time.
  6. Its been discussed up thread before of the possibility of MMO occupying an office building on either the Euclid Ave. or Prospect Ave. surface lots that were the site of the former Hippodrome Theater. If MMO were to consolidate all of their employees in a new office building, including moving approximately 450 - 500 employees now based in Toledo to Cleveland, MMO's space needs would be anywhere from 500,00 - 550,000 sq ft. That's assuming their need is for approximately 2500 employees. MMO would occupy 20 - 25 floors of floors that are 20 - 25,000 sq ft each. I can envision a tower of 40 stories at either of the two sites for MMO, with space for other tenants too.
  7. Could it be owner occupied vs rentals? Apts vs condo's? I have to say that if I were an owner of a home in LI, I would most likely prefer condo's over apts at that location. But that's just me.
  8. Not everything in SF is Tech orientated. As much as SF and its surrounding area is saturated with tech jobs, there are many co's hq'd there that are not associated with Tech. 1. Charles Schwab 2. Gap Inc 3. Levi Strauss 4. Pacific Gas & Electric 5. William - Sonoma 6. Pottery Barn 7. Ghirardelli Chocolate Company 8. Gymboree (children's clothes) 9. Wells Fargo Bank None of these have anything to do with Tech.

Kevin Leeson's Twitter comment is so right. Another reason why NOT to allow Mayor Jackson another term as mayor.
  10. I believe the Federal Building has to be more than 577,000 sq ft. If you divide the 32 floors into the 577,000, that is only 18k per floor. That would be very small floor plates considering how bulky the building looks. So I did some digging into some of my Cleveland books, checked on Wikipedia, and compared these to the Crain's list KJP posted. According to Wikipedia, the building has 577,000 sq ft, but according to most of the info I found in my Cleveland books, the building has 1,000,000 sq ft. The million sq ft info I found states that the building was erected in 1964, and was build to hold 5,000 employees. That would be 200 sq ft per employee and sounds more reasonable. I found nothing to verify the Crain's 1.4 million sq ft. And if the 577,000 is correct, and is divided by 5,000 employees, that would be only 115 sq ft per employee. The 1 million sq ft still seems more likely.
  11. Here's an article I saw today about NuCLEus on WLA. Not sure of when it was posted on their web site as I could not find a date; so hopefully it is not a duplicate article already posted elsewhere on this thread. nuCLEus Mixed Use Development | Cleveland, Ohio, USA | NBBJ Located in the heart of downtown Cleveland, nuCLEus is ambitious mixed-use urban development that will contribute new energy to the city as it turns a corner in its economic and cultural resurgence. The project will offer approximately two million square feet of new space in the downtown consisting of retail, office, hotel, residential and parking program. In addition this project will spur changes in the urban fabric through the redesign of streets making this district more pedestrian friendly, activated by the influx of new residents, workers and visitors drawn to nuCLEus and its invigorated neighbours..... http://worldlandscapearchitect.com/nucleus-mixed-use-development-cleveland-ohio-usa-nbbj/#.WMv1WvWcGUl
  12. An Ad on LoopNet says class B. The Ad also shows only 155,000 available sq ft. http://www.loopnet.com/Listing/19568047/925-Euclid-Ave-Cleveland-OH/
  13. Today is opening day for Cleveland's Ruth Chris Steak House. http://www.newsnet5.com/lifestyle/food/ruths-chris-steak-house-opens-public-square-location
  14. Past articles have said the office space will be between 200,000 - 300,000.
  15. I think this may have been done on purpose. In watching many demo's seemlier to this one, buildings are usually meant to fall a certain way, and this demo mimic's many others that can be found on YouTube.
  16. Notice how completely the 80s MTV technique of rapid fire cuts has penetrated advertising. Watched this video today and have a question. At the 30 second point in the video there is a few seconds showing what to me looks like video possibly taken either in the old Higbee Building on the upper floors where Quicken Loans moved their Cleveland Offices, or possibly the video was filmed in the Halle Building. Are either of these correct, or was the video taken in another building downtown?
  17. That appears to be the case. There are signs posted saying "No pedestrians. Use crosswalk" and it points to the newly painted cross walk in the middle...which as mentioned does not have a ramp. Will they put in some kind of temporary ramp? This is all do stupid. All of these safety modifications to mitigate made up safety concerns that were concocted to cover for the fact that the reason behind the closure is because they didn't want "those people" on the square. If the newly painted cross walk is in the middle of Superior Ave where Ontario use to be, then if I remember correctly no curbing is needed as the park level and the street level are equal to one another. There are no curbs at this area of the PS.
  18. The Fresh Water article gives insight into seven projects that will change the face of Cleveland, but not only should the Warehouse Super Block project have been mentioned, but also 515 Euclid/The Beacon.
  19. you will be disappointed. Could not agree more with being disappointed. Have only been to Margaritaville twice, in two different cities. The first time was not impressed, but thought I would try a second time. Boy, what a mistake. Never again.
  20. This "bakery" is actually a wholesale Pita Bread project which has the backing of the OBCD. The Pita Bread made at this facility is to be sold to local restaurants, grocery stores, etc... It will only have a handful of employees. This info was provided to me by the OBCD Corp.
  21. According to the Councilman the houses have been condemned and are awaiting demolition. Might be tied to this info: http://www.clevelandcitycouncil.org/news-resources/current-news/2016/2016-01-news/fine-levied-against-serial-flipper-used-to-demolis

I'm interested in knowing if Johnson is truly sorry for his crimes, and not just for getting caught. Me too, the last I heard he believed he had been set up (not by the FBI but by rivals). We've certainly learned there wasn't much unusual about what he did, it was par for the course in Cuyahoga County. The fact that he got his law license and the ability to run for office reinstated is certainly unusual. Common, It's Politics! You know that I hope. Still not a good choice for mayor IMO.
  23. Their 1931 equivalents.....55 Public Square was built on the site of an old courthouse that was demolished that year. You're right, the building to the extreme right is the old courthouse, and the white building in front of it (to the right of the farthest right lamp post) is the Marshall Building which was at the NW corner of PS and Superior Ave. The Marshall Building was demolished around 1990 (give or take a year) to make way for the never built Ameritrust Center. IMO, the Marshall Building was a very classy looking building and a great loss to the CLE skyline. Great picture though. Thanks for posting it.

Am watching NewsMax in order to get another respective on the news verses the alphabet networks. Getting only one side of the news does not really make one able to come to a well informed conclusion. TV shows, Grim. Love the show, and am disappointed that this is its last season.

IMO this is ridiculous, and we must hold those 9 council members who voted for this project while so many others parks already in the city are neglected, accountable. Why does City Council think having a Dirt Bike Park will keep dirt bikes/4 wheelers off the street. Cleveland will now have a another money-pit in cannot keep up that the majority of its residents will not use, and it will not solve the problem of riding dirt bikes, 4 wheelers on the streets of the city. What a waste of taxpayer $$$$. How can we stop this waste of our $$$$?
