  1. Pickerington in Fairfield County is growing like crazy, but I don't think that the county will see that much growth.
  2. I don't understand why the college couldn't find another site to locate in Coshocton. There are 2 large open buildings right in town (Big Bear and Wal-Mart) I don't see why they had to move into an historic area and take out a major hotel for the area!

Zanesville: Col. Ebeneezer Zane who blazed the first trail through the Ohio Territory. The Zanes Trace went from Wheeling W.Va. to Maysville Ky. Zane was awarded land and was to set up a settlement at every river crossing. Lancaster is included in this land. In Zanesville U.S. 22 follows the Zanes Trace which is why 22 through the south end of town is called Maysville Pike, and a lot of businesses have taken the Maysville name. The school in South Zanesville, which has a Zanesville address, is called Maysville H.S. The original name for Zanesville was suppose to be Westbourn, but when they applied to be incorporated, the papers came back Zanesville.

  5. I will try to have some pic's within the next few days!...... I am down there about 3 days a week.
  6. I think it is a historical vitamin/supplament shop with tanning. They do things just as they would have in the early 1800's. :-D
  7. We have the National Road - Zane Grey museum!!! They have all kinds Zane Grey memorabilia and they show a movie on his life, it is very interesting.
  8. Very cool architecture!!
  9. The McIntire Historic District is located directly off of I-70 at the Maple Ave. Exit and the State St. Exit. It was built by John McIntire, the nephew of Ebeneezer Zane. He was the first "city planner" for Zanesville and was the person in charge of laying out the city. This district was the first "subdivision" of Zanesville. Zane Grey's Birthplace Some row houses Zanesville Community Theater...Very cool inside And the grand finale... Next up...Putnam Historic District

This building will be coming down sometime in the next 2 months and a 36 unit apartment complex will be built in it's place. I heard that it will be somewhere around 7 stories with the first floor being commercial. This was at one time a department store. The developers have said that the building is in too bad of shape to use.
  12. It is sort of a mixture of all three, but if I had to pick one, I would say main street because it is US 40 (National Road), the courthouse "square" is on it as well the best looking intersection downtown at 5th, and the Y-Bridge is part of Main Street.
  13. I need to get to Hamilton!! From what I have seen, it looks quite impressive.
  14. From what I have heard, Longaberger wanted to build the HQ in Zanesville since ALL of their facilities are in Muskingum County, but the city officials decided that they didn't want a 7 story basket to deal with if Longaberger went under. Bad decision if you ask me! Anyway, glad to see that my counties largest employer is hiring more jobs.

Downtown Zanesville had several multi-level department stores before the Colony Square Mall. These included JC Penney (3 stories), Sears (4 stories), Bintz Brothers (4 stories), Montgomery and Ward (4 stories), AJ Nader's and Son's (4 stories), Kresge's (this became K Mart), cousins and Fearn, Starrs (3 stories), Webbers (3 stories), and many other stores. My mom recalls that the elevators were ran by operators. The mall opened in 81 with JC Penney, Sears, Elder Beerman, and later, Lazarus. Lazarus closed here like it did in many other places, but the site will soon be a large 12 screen stadium seating theater!
  17. The Student Center is looking awesome! I like how the spire on top is visible when you look down Court Street. There is also a good view of it from inside Peden Stadium.

FYI..... THE OHIO UNIVERSITY will be marking it's 1,000 football game on national television Saturday, September 3 at 12:00 on ESPNU. The game will also be Coach Frank Soilich's first commanding the Bobcats. If you are not watching the Bucks, this is a great alternative! I will be at a bar watching them both wearing my Muck Fiami shirt! (it covers both games) :banger:
  20. If you are travelly from Athens to Columbus Nelsonville is that last portion of 33 that is not a four lane highway. It does slow things down some. With a decent size college in Nelsonville, I don't think the businesses will suffer that greatly. Plus it will take away a speed trap. :-D
  21. Hi, I am new to the site and just wanted to share some of the projects we have going on in the Y-City! First off is a 70 million dollar shopping complex called the Northpointe Centre. It will be anchered by The Home Depot and Kohl's with room for at least one other ancher in future phases. The complex is located next to a Lowes and the 80 store Colony Square Mall. A Sams Club will also be build accross the street. All of the stores are to be new to Zanesville and will add to our already booming commercial sector. Here is a link to the developers website! http://www.zarembagroup.com/retail_indev_northpointe.html Downtown Zanesville is about to have some very exciting projects. The first is a new lifestyles center (I think that is what they are called) called Potters Alley. The name derived from the fact the Zanesville is the "Pottery Capital of the World" It should be simmilar to Pullman Square in Huntington. It is suppose to have a large theater, and a large Bookstore, with multi-leveal buildings that have shops on the first floor and appartments on the upper floors, but nothing has been anounced yet. Part of this project consists of a convention center that will be attatched to the existing 1,800 seat Secrest Auditorium. Other downtown projects include new appartment complexes that are just now being announced. Recently one of the historic buildings was just converted to loft appartments for seniors.
