Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
Went to a happy hour at Goodale Station rooftop Friday after work and snapped a few photos of the progress. I wish I could have gotten one in my uber from the other side, the glass and cladding is really coming along from the highway!!! You can also see the elevator cores in the distance at the James Hospital expansion.

I still have high hopes for this. Loving public art, especially when a local family/developer wants to kick in most of the costs (Edwards). It seems to have been quite the sucess in many other international cities. I'd rather give it a go and add to our public art with something quite dramatic and eye catching. But art is subjective, so I suppose not everyone has to like it, but I would rather try for something different. Here are a few from London, Vienna, Madrid, Perth and Boston by the same artist.

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
At the very least we are going to see both North Market Tower as well as the proposed tower on the Scioto Peninsula go up at the same time. Based on the demand and Columbus' continued steady growth and low inventory I can only imagine more are to come in the future pipeline...

Gnoraa replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionTotally random and I don't know why, maybe it's the windows and the way the entrance has curved glass and awning, but something about this building simply screams diner to me haha I can already envision the jukebox upon entering lol

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
I live on the west side of Columbus, and when I am taking ubers downtown or to some friends houses, the route goes down the "interesting" Sullivant Ave, however when you are ascending the ramp onto I-70/71 and you look over the entire Franklinton/Scioto Peninsula area, it is mind boggling how much denser it already looks. Even beyond that with Parks Edge, Hilton, The James and Gravity 2.0, the entire vantagepoint is actually very beautiful. It will be even more interesting to watch it continue filling in so many of the other spaces slated for projects, as well as the additional height that is in the pipeline with North Market Tower & the recently proposed 34 story tower in East Franklinton. I almost wonder if the old Cooper Stadium site should become a mixed used development with a few taller residential builds, as the view from that area is actually very impressive looking to the city!!!

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
Let's be honest, even if it is "dead" West Broad Street is clearly ripe/prime/attractive for development. West Broad will become its own "district" if you will, with bars, restaurants, shops, offices, apartments, etc..... I have a feeling over the next 2 decaes we are going to literally see a new westward skyline occur. Something else even taller will likely eclipse this proposal. It's so much fun living in Columbus as it continues to densify and grow as it always has continued to do.

On a separate note, does anyone have a drone shot of the stadium recently? I know the huge lettering/signage on the roof was completed a while ago now.

How did Columbus become the USMNT's spiritual home, and will it continue to be? https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-states-usa/story/4495356/how-did-columbus-become-the-usmnts-spiritual-homeand-will-it-continue-to-be A nice ESPN article on the long history of Columbus' influence on soccer in the USA. The game may move around a bit over the future years, but you can't deny the original rich history here.....well done Columbus!!! "Columbus is an incredible market that has played host to many memorable USSF matches over the years," said David Wright, USSF chief commercial officer. "With a world-class stadium and passionate fans, we couldn't be more excited to return."

Was in my car running errands downtown and passed through the area about an hour ago. Apologize for the quality as I was driving so had to be sorta careful lol. Looks like literally today they were adding the beams on the south side of Gravity 2.0 to the 9th floor.

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
I have to say, when taking my Uber's lately, and entering the city from the West on I-70, the view is getting pretty impressive considering all of the infill and density that is occurring. When you look to the skyline, you are now seeing all of the cranes and steel and buildings rising across the river in Franklinton. Also, the addition of Park's Edge and the Hilton going up just extends the sightline. Can only image as time goes on as this momentum doesn't show any signs of going away. Plus an even larger Market Tower. The infill still just boggles my mind. When I walk around town, I can seriously point to something on each corner it seems like that was not there when I moved here 11 years ago. The 20's are going to be great!!

When I drove by this last Sunday, it was up to 8 stories I believe. I forget, is it going to 10 or 12?

Newark: Developments and News
Gnoraa replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionMe and some of my friends totally did this earlier this Summer. It was a great day and we hopped around to multiple places in both towns. Newark had a great BBQ joint and a steak house of sorts on the square that was delicious!! It was a nice place to visit. I'll definitely be going back to get out of the city, which is always nice to do from time to time...

Columbus: Scioto Peninsula Developments and News
Driving on the interstates around town it's actually very impressive how many cranes are actively up and going!! And honestly, I don't see it slowing up. Loving how Columbus is continuing its boom!! :)

I agree, I feel like the progress to the next floor has really slowed/stalled because they are waiting for the bump. I feel like they are really focusing on the outside cladding. I really also liked seeing all the white iron/beams giving shape to all the huge angular glass that will be on the bottom 4-5 floors!!!

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
Was downtown last night and was able to get right up to the site for some construction updates. Also great to see the GSWS in town again!! Largest event since the start of the pandemic. Over 240 teams are participating, the most of any GSWS. The hotels and restaurants have been quiet busy all week in the area!!!

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
I think they will definitely go for the TMUD, they'd be dumb not to, but I don't think the project is hinging on this. They still have all partners in play plus the addition of Edwards. My guess is they are delaying the start to at least attempt the application/win of the TMUD, and if it doesn't get awarded to them, they will still move forward. As for how long this has taken, it's pretty standard considering all other large projects, plus there has been a pandemic in the middle.

Agreed, the previous modification really strayed away from all the glass, so I'm glad to see a large portion of the glass returned. I really enjoy the mix of hard materials with the glass a lot in tiered projects like this. I also think it will compliment the Hilton tower nicely. I'd love to see a development eventually that is not so sharp angled/boxy (kind of like Market Square Tower in Indy), but I still really really like this updated proposal!!!

Columbus: Population Trends
I'd also venture to take a look on the Westside in Westgate and surrounding area. My home is a 1948 cape cod and most of the homes in my area were 1930's-1950's.

I was downtown a bit this weekend for a show and a wedding, and snapped these pics from the Goodale Station terrace at the Canopy. I always find this angle of the Hyatt interesting because it looks so skinny from this viewpoint haha Also loving all the cranes in the distance at Ohio State

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Does anyone have an Ohio county map showing general increase/decrease by county? I know there has been a lot of talk or rural counties losing population, but I believe oddly enough Mercer County grew some. Was just curious, but having trouble locating/navigating the data. I haven't had time to dig into it too far in the last 24 hours. Have to stay focused on my day job before I can spoil myself with the fun of these stats this weekend haha

Columbus: Brewery District Developments and News
I love that they are at least keeping the main 6 story building. That a win. With regards to the warehouse, as much as I'd like to see them repurpose it and incorporate it into their design, if they plant to do a parking garage as mentioned that may not be possible. I know this likely added expense, but perhaps just as a nod to the history of the property, they could find a way to incorporate the bricks/items from the current building into the new one? I know it doesn't make up for the full tear down of it, but it's something. I'm always grateful that they aren't doing a full sweep teardown, so I'll take the bit they are saving as a W. But that's me.

Agreed. I'm hoping with this acquisition of the Greyhound property they may put in a decent "hub" with regards to their new enhanced routes.
