Columbus: Victorian Village Developments and News
Gnoraa replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI don't have a count, but I was driving eastbound on West Broad into downtown, and the cranes up all together with Gravity 2.0, the Peninsula and even the Hilton in the distance was an amazing view to the backdrop of the skyline. I wish I could've gotten a quick picture of it. I've driven the 315 route too and it's crazy how many cranes are up on both side of the freeway!!

Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium
It really is amazing how much light features like this can affect homes from a distance, regardless of how tall the building you live in is. Here in Columbus, I had friends who used to live in North Bank Tower, just down the road from the AEP skyscraper. AEP has a light bar/feature at the top of their building that would change colors/pulsate and it was insane how much it flooded into their condo!! They had to use slumber mask's at night to sleep without disruption. My guess is they are still testing the waters of the intensity of the lights, and hopefully will turn down the wattage after a certain hour perhaps? For the record, I do think the lighting feature is quite impressive though and unique. I actually personally prefer the night time light show views of the stadium compared to the see through skeleton view of the daytime hours, but that's me.

It is pretty remarkable how many really nice rooftop restaurants we have now in the span of just like 2 years. Town Hall/Moxy, Lincoln Social, Goodale Station, Lumin, and soon Hilton II, and whatever they will call it over in Franklinton.....and I'm sure some more to come....

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
This route has been discussed for the future. I will be happy to see the 3-C route get up and running first, but I wouldn't be surprise if the expansion of Pittsburgh-Columbus-Indianapolis line gets added afterwards. It will provide quite robust connection options through Columbus at that point.

Random question, but all of the renderings have shown that roof to be gray/black matching the wrap finishing of the stadium. It almost looks like it could have a matte finish. As it is right now, it looks to be just a raw metal, being very shiny reflective. I'm really hoping that this is not the finished product, because it just gives it a very unfinished look IMO. I'm loving everything about this stadium, and all of the interior renderings and lounges look top of the line, but if the roof remains as it is, I will feel like we got short changed on what was proposed. I realize it's just a roof, but in the age of drones and image, it better be completed as advertised. All that being said, I also realize we have a little over 2 more months of construction, so I may be getting ahead of myself. Anyone have inside info on the status of the roof? Posting the current drone pic posted on insta vs what is in all of the renderings...

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
If you get the chance to go down there in person and up close, you can see the complexity of these first 6-7 floors. The contouring and literally angular concrete pours of zig zagged columns, is very unique and odd up close, but they've had to pour these custom angles to work around the nearby walls of the convention center. This takes a lot of time and customization. If I get a chance in the next few days I'll try to go down there and get some close ups to provide context to this. The peninsula are box/square buildings, hard to compare. I suspect the upper floors/tower portion will rise faster in theory, however, this project is a government project, not "Hilton". No offence to government and our local politics, but the contracts secured for much of this labor I'm sure is more drawn out on purpose. I can bet you that if Hilton as a corporation/owner was in control and building this, the timeline would be even faster.

Additionally, please refer to Pablo's post on April 7th, his explanation of the complexity of the lower 6-7 floors applies...

I've wondered as well. All I have been able to come up with is perhaps just a simple abstract design of the waving checked flags....??? Attached a photo for context.... I could totally be wrong or off though...

Columbus: OSU Medical Center Expansion
Gnoraa replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI could be wrong, but even though the exterior may be completed rather quickly, to my understanding to actually fit out a major hospital, it's quite complex and takes a long time relative to a normal building.

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
Gnoraa replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction***Cross posting because I feel this may be a more appropriate location for this discussion*** I've always known about this ability, but this adaptation was taken into consideration back in 1980 when the Ohio Center Way was built. Since then the convention center and entire surrounding area has basically built out to the max, way more than probably anticipated in 1980. That being said, the remaining rail lines that pass under the convention center are extremely active and busy for CSX. There would need to be a build out for a sitting area for the entire train to pull out of traffic. The convention center site would work best for perhaps a smaller tram to the airport, but I think a site closer to 670 would be better long term. And this is all just for fun and throwing other ideas out there. As much as we would like a downtown terminal, perhaps it would be best to build the main Amtrak train terminal/station at John Glenn International Airport, with a tram connecting to the convention center/OSU. I feel like for future accessibility/functionality, an intermodal approach would be key, but that's just me. The airport, and their new parking and car rental facility was built to accommodate this future tram/rail capability in mind, and would be able to support the parking as well. Whatever is built, consideration for future growth should be built into the scenario. I would think Columbus would want to be able to hold at least 4 trains/platforms simultaneously....Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati & Pittsburgh in mind. Again, just spit balling here, love to hear other ideas for potential station locations...

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
The reality is both cities are completing 2 incredibly modern, world renowned stadiums packed with luxurious amenities. Each stadium was built to serve their respective unique locations and neighborhoods appropriately and I personally love both for different reasons!! I'm glad that they are both starkly different in design, having the same would be boring. It will be fun to watch the impact they both have with regards to future growth and events they provide. Outside of just soccer, I love that these stadiums are built with other events in mind, like concerts. Concerts in an open air arena setting are awesome, I attended a few at Ohio Stadium, however concerts there for me are not fun. It's about the user experience and setting, and a concert for 20-30k in a stadium that seats 110K roughly, just doesn't have the same feel or affect. Bigger is not always better with regards to that, again it's about the setting and experience for me, and I feel based on the 20k-25k seating, these locations will be awesome on gamedays and concerts!!!

Assuming things actually worked out for Ohio with regards to rail in the future, Cincinnati and Cleveland already have Amtrak train terminals correct? One exciting prospect is that Columbus would require and entirely brand new terminal. Any suggestions/hypothesis of where this could go? Maybe they could build something quite modern and striking to fit our current age!!

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
Gnoraa replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThis is going to sound really "dumb", and don't shoot the messenger, but some how, that parking garage has some quirky "historic designation". I believe it may have had something to do with the Lazarus company but I'd have to dig into it more. I just remember reading about it in the past and being shocked that a garage could be "historic" like that. Perhaps someone else with more knowledge can provide some insight??? Cincinnati: Downtown: Development and News
I'd love to see an acquisition by someone who can maybe do what they did similar to LeVeque Tower in Columbus. Convert it into mixed use with retail/restaurants, office, hotel, apartment and condo's. Mixed use is the way to go IMO for better variety and stability.

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
I drove by today as well. I apologize if my windshield was a bit dirty.....in a weird way, the 3rd floor of the 2.0 looks almost at the height of the 6-7th floor of the 1.0 in comparison across High Street from each other. I'm more excited to see the angular and elaborate glass curtain/wrap portrayed in the renderings of the High street frontage area and "atrium" area.....

Columbus: OSU Medical Center Expansion
Gnoraa replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThis is a random question not necessarily construction or "urbanohio" related, but is Dodd hall itself still in operation or standing? I'm only asking because I had a cousin who had a pretty traumatic and rare accident back in 2000 and spent about 4 weeks in Dodd hall after a lengthy 11 month stay in 3 different hospitals before being release to go home. I visited her in Dodd and it was crazy dated an felt like a scene out of the Godfather even in 2000. Regardless the care and professionals at her care were amazing. Again, just curious.......

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
One of the problems already, is that the "cat is out of the bag". Franklinton, The Peninsula area, although not very developed yet, but already is slated for a lot of development. In terms of affordable housing and just normal pricing, given the current state, it's still hard to come by. I have a friend, in his late 20's, ready to buy his first home, wiling for it to be a bit of a fixer upper, who wanted to buy a house in the area, and literally a burned out tear down home was going for $90k.....and I MEAN BURNED tear down. The market in Columbus is hot real estate wise, and this neighborhood although not even close to fully developed or converted yet, is already expensive....

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
The amount of potential for this area is like sitting on a powder keg. What I feel is usually and after thought connector street, you have Souder Road getting much more future attention with the addition of the Covermymeds headquarters/campus also leading over to the new Crew Stadium site. Then you have Broad and Town Streets going East to West into The Peninsula which is already beginning to take off. I'm very excited to see what this area in East Franklinton becomes over the next decade or so!!!

Columbus: OSU Medical Center Expansion
Gnoraa replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionGiven it's proximity to the Olentangy River, I'm not necessarily surprised. I know Ohio Stadium dug too deep when making modification over the years and hit the water table, and the new Crew Stadium also had to modify their original depth due to the water table with the rivers there. I'm not sure a deep basement is much of an option. I could be way off base though, I'm not an engineer. It just was a though given other things in that area.

I thought for the time being, the residential conversion that took place with LeVeque Tower in Columbus was at the moment the "tallest"?
