  1. Well, all of that + Summit and 4th Streets infill. 4th St. is seeing more of the higher density development. I live 2 blocks from High and 1 block from 4th, and with all the development happening on 4th, I'm starting to dub it "The Short 4th" haha I believe once much of this is built out that 5th Ave has a ton of potential. Up towards Weinland Park area and moving east towards the highway, along with Rogue Fitness and all the street/infrastructure enhancements along 5th, it is very ripe and ready for future developments and infill. Outside of just this area though, downtown is well on it's way to gaining more residence, which I don't believe will slow down, but I feel like Parson's Ave on the south side, with all the investment from Nationwide Children's is cleaning up more and more. Just a few years ago you would never consider buying in Old Oaks, Driving Park, Southern Orchards or just east of Parson's in general, and now houses are flipping and selling within days of being on the market. Don't count out the momentum building westward either into Franklinton. The Short North is wonderful, and I enjoy living here, and even though there are massive temporary growing pains during the construction and street upgrades right now, this neighborhood is almost to it's "limit" and I believe all these other areas are beginning to be looked at as future options to clean up and provide more destination neighborhoods. That's just my 2 cents though....
  2. Those were public housing towers at 2nd and Summit. I think they were demolished around 2000 or so. These were demolished I believe in the 90's or early 2000's and are now a development called "New Village" in Italian Village.
  3. BTW, sorry if the pics are huge and sideways, I uploaded them from my phone, which I don't do much on this site and just realized today on an actual computer how obnoxiously large they are.....
  4. As much as I'm all for green space, in this situation they have the ultimate green space one block away at Goodale Park. I enjoy the open space during a good Gallery Hop because there are some good performers but this developer clearly has plans to capitalize off of the store front potential on this thriving urban street, and I can't really blame them.
  5. During my lunchtime walk today, I decided to snap these shots looking into the Short North from the new addition of the GCCC. They are starting to put in the iron for the 8th and 9th floors of the 711 High project today. From this view you can tell how dense this area of the SN is becoming.
  6. A snowy walk through the Short North to my office today, I decided to snap a pic or two. You can see the iron has gone up to about the 6-7th floor now in the distance on the 711 N High project.
  7. I work a block away, here is the view from my office with the "proof" you are requesting on the crane haha. Further in the distance you can see the progress on The View on Grant taking place as well.
  8. Here is a shot of the demolition of Haiku. They cleared the rubble out really quick as well. I'm curious how fast they will get this 10 story hotel up.
  9. I'm not someone who comments often, but I do come to this site regularly almost every day, and I must say, I was going through some good updates and withdrawal of keeping up with other peoples insights and ideas on here!!! Glad this is back up and running!!!
  10. Pen West is near by, but more to the west. I put together a map that may help visualize the area better. I've included other outlines and projects/proposals to have a better understanding of how the area is filling out. I'm sure I'm missing other proposals/projects, but here's what I have. Ah, thank you. That map really puts into perspective just how far away some of the proposed projects are from the Arena District / Short North. I think the gravel lots across from Flats on Vine may be part of a proposal for in-fill -> either with or in addition to the North Market Tower. Can't remember who put that plan out there. Really that whole area west of School Street could use some help - nothing big I wouldn't think but it just seems misfit for the area now. It'll probably end up being a parking garage and some apartments/condos. I agree about the gravel lots, there's quite a bit of space for the future there. I know they just tore down the old Lodge Bar site and what not to create extra temporary parking for the anticipation of the North Market Tower site during its construction. I could be wrong, but those gravel lots are almost the last piece of the puzzle in the Arena District that NRI actually does NOT own, I think Schottenstein might actually have tabs on those as well?? (Might be wrong on that). It would be nice after a lot of these other projects wrap up in the coming years if they can then focus on these last gravel lots to complete the area out.

I've included other outlines and projects/proposals to have a better understanding of how the area is filling out. I'm sure I'm missing other proposals/projects, but here's what I have. That's a pretty complete and very helpful map for all the projects in this area. I work in the Arena District, and during my lunch time walks, I like to walk through McFerson Commons then down to the newly revamped riverfront, and it's been exciting watching the quick progress on Parks Edge, I still think NRI may have something nice "up their sleeve" for their "Phase 3" of that project, slightly back from the 12 story towers against the parking garage/park. I've always felt there is potential for another 20-25 or so story tower there to complete that area. Just my thought though. I love all the input, and everyone has different ideas and concerns, but you have to admit, it's a pretty exciting time to live in Columbus during its growing boom.

  13. First Phase of Motorists’ Plan Calls for Five-Story Building Overlooking Topiary Park Motorists Insurance Group revealed more details of its plan for a one-acre parking lot abutting the Topiary Park Downtown. The latest proposal, which was presented to the Downtown Commission at its meeting on Tuesday, also shed some light on the company’s plans for future phases of the development. The overall plan calls for a total of 256 units, parking for 778 cars, and another 10,000 square feet of retail space. Those future phases would fill in the additional surface parking lots that Motorists owns east of South Washington Avenue. The building facing the park would hold 68 units; a mix of townhomes, one- and two-bedroom apartments, and studios. A parking garage accessed from Oak Street would hold 114 cars, and a 4,000 square foot retail storefront would occupy the first floor of the building at the corner of Oak and Washington. ... Another topic of discussion was the plans for Library Park Drive, which would be converted into a pedestrian-only pathway under the proposal. http://www.columbusunderground.com/first-phase-of-motorists-plan-calls-for-five-story-building-overlooking-topiary-park MODERATOR EDIT: Article edited to excerpt w/ link.
  14. My office literally overlooks much of the constructions, and yesterday many of the steel beams were delivered. Today they have done all of this framing up pretty quickly! Will be interesting to see how fast this comes together at this stage!
  15. As much as I am partial to the original uses of these extremely historic and iconic buildings, I am also looking to the future of what works in todays age, and in the end I truly believe mixed use re-purposing is the way to go. Although I'm from Columbus now, I have a huge love for Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dayton, Toledo and the many other cities of this great state, so I may be bias here, but the recent completion of the LeVeque Tower here in Columbus is a prime example of how this model could be sucessful. Combining, class A office space, boutique hotel, apartments and condos, allows for a great mix of uses to make these older buildings a great success in the modern age! Here is just one article with a few details, which I'm sure all my urban guru's on here are already fully aware of. http://radio.wosu.org/post/columbus-leveque-tower-shines-anew-after-renovation
  16. Two Major Short North Developments Approved by Commission The Victorian Village Commission approved two major Short North developments at its March 9 meeting – Kaufman Development’s nine-story mixed-use project between West Second and Price Avenues, and the Pizzuti Companies’ two-building project on West First Avenue. The projects were approved with conditions, meaning that both developers will have to return to the commission for a final sign-off. With the yes-votes on the overall massing and layout, though, the projects will now start to move forward. 18. Interesting and super modern proposal for downtown Columbus announced today... http://www.columbusunderground.com/columbus-millennial-tower
  19. Outside of Ohio State Campus, which has quite a few, downtown Columbus currently has one for the new Lifestyle Communities building, which is sort of a joke at the glacial pace that has taken, a second one at the site for the new downtown city campus building and parking garage, and a third one next to North Bank Tower where Nationwide Realty is building phase 1 of 3 of their new condo towers. There may be some smaller ones I'm unaware of, but that is what is current before a few more new projects break ground soon.
  20. I'm wondering how Celina didn't even make the list at all? If I'm not mistaken they were successful in obtaining the Main Street Grant/Program back in 2009 or 2010 and have completely restored their downtown streets and infrastructure. Furthermore, have retained grants to allow the business/building owners to make restorations as well. In the past 6 years more than 50% of the storefronts and buildings have been refurbished to their former glory. With the ongoing work on the boardwalk, and the clearing out of a lake front trailer park recently to make way for a multiphase lake front park downtown, I don't understand how this isn't list worthy. Just my thoughts though, perhaps its a lack of people truly visiting the smaller towns of western Ohio.
  21. I think my original file sizes were too large...
  22. I took a stroll through the Short North last night with some friends. They have taken down the barricades that were on the sidewalks and have really cleaned up the street fronts. I really like how these 2 buildings are framing up the entrance into this neighborhood! I would post some pictures but seem to be having difficulty attaching them. Any advice on the best way to insert pictures?
