  1. 1. Historic Huntington Bank Building has huge potential for a higher end hotel with an elaborate lobby/lounge/restaurant and bar. 2. Wyandotte I think could be converted to condos. 3. 1960's era building could be the mix used of ground floor restaurant/retail, it has nice patio space. Office and apartments above. Likely mostly apartments IMO. No matter what ends up happening, there are so many awesome options ahead for this collection of buildings!
  2. DANG!! Columbus continues to just grow grow grow. Not sure I've seen these kind of monthly numbers in my whole time living here.
  3. Franklin County No. 3 in Site Selection's best counties for economic development "Central Ohio is home to one of the best counties nationally for economic development, according to Site Selection magazine." "Franklin County racked up 2,347 points to take the No. 3 spot in the U.S., behind only Maricopa County, Arizona (Pheonix) and Harris County, Texas (Houston). The publication awarded points based on the number of projects between January 2023 and March 2024, capital investment and jobs created." "Franklin County bested No. 4 Fulton County, Georgia (Atlanta), as well as Dallas County, Texas (Dallas) and Cook County, Illinois (Chicago) - both tied for 5th" "Montgomery County (Dayton) ranked No. 9 and Hamilton County (Cincinnati) took the No. 16 spot." "The Columbus metropolitan area is estimated to grow its 2020 employment by 9.4% in 2030, from 1.09 million to 1.19 million. That puts Columbus in the driver's seat to lead Ohio's employment growth into the next decade."
  4. I like it in theory but seems like an unnecessary amount of demolition. I guess 16 Bit and Dirty Franks will get the boot.
  5. Wish they would add U.S. Route 33 North West corridor to 6 lanes all the way through Marysville. The traffic on that route in the last 5+ years has increased exponentially!!!
  6. Whatever happened to the investment to improve/build a new police substation in the Hilltop which was in the budget back in 2021?
  7. We get downtown a lot, and every time I'm sitting at Jackie O's, I look at the stretch of 4th going North and you just know there's going to be a wall of buildings along this corridor someday. That entire intersection of 4th and Spring and on up to Chestnut will have a whole new feel.
  8. Columbus saw a record 51.2 million visitors last year Columbus was a popular destination last year. Experience Columbus reported on Thursday that the greater Columbus area had a record 51.2 million visitors in 2023, up from 49.6 visitors in 2022. A Tourism Economics study showed the travel industry supports more than 82,500 jobs in Columbus and Franklin County. Visitors spent about $8.2 billion at local businesses last year and generated around $1.6 billion in local, state and federal tax revenue.
  9. The state provided $13M in funding for this. The agreement with the state calls for the demolition of ALL buildings to be finished by the end of June 2024. Call me a "hard liner" on this, but to me all of the remaining buildings should come down if the new property owner wants the state/tax payer funds that helped clear this and was agreed to. Finish the job correctly. Clearing the site in its entirety to me allows for a truly fully blank slate for whatever mixed use comes next. Knowing how the West side always gets cast aside, keeping the JC Penny building will just allow for the current owner to keep those gun shows and delay redevelopment. But that's just me. Maybe I'll change my mind if I see a true redevelopment proposal. Ohio to Pay to Demolish Westland Mall
  10. Will be interesting to see the landslide of conversion units in Columbus in the next 24 months. Continental Center - 400 units Chase Tower - 300 units PNC Tower - 105 units Roughly 805 units in total just with those 3 conversions.
  11. The lot across from the YWCA is owned by the Athletic Club of Columbus, so I'm sure parking is going to be a must in that building to replace what they use for their members. As for the height, I'm not in the camp that every single parcel on Capitol Square needs to be a skyscraper. If they did build one on the lot by the old Dispatch, it wouldn't really impact the skyline all that much because all the other buildings are already along Broad and High. If anything, I'm ready for some taller buildings away from Capitol square. The density that these will add to fill in and connect at the street level is perfect. My fiancé's office is on Capitol Square and we are downtown multiple evenings a week and weekends and the foot traffic has transformed immensely. We find ourselves downtown more than we do the Short North, which even 5 years ago I wouldn't have said that. The momentum can be felt every block you're on. All of these will be connected by the "highline", which I know Edwards along with other art and downtown minded individuals want to expand to the river front and beyond to the art museum. These will also be along the Capitol Line that is in the works. It's been so refreshing to actually have more and more of the public in our downtown.
  12. I won't be able to make this one, we have a wedding that day. Someday I'll get to one haha
  13. So what's the occupancy rate of the building currently? 100,000 square feet is less than 10% for Cliff's portion if I'm understanding this correctly.
  14. I agree, but I like the idea that development is trickling more west. Looking at the map, Cental and Glenwood both are good solid streets connecting Broad and Sullivant, this could be the start of something in West Franklinton, and continually cleaning up and elevating the area.
  15. Couldn't agree more. I feel like one thing Columbus does not skimp on, specifically in it's downtown when they are re-doing streets and what not are it's curbing/sidewalks. Every curb that has gone into Columbus in the last few decades is granite, not concrete. It lasts and looks sharp. Even when they have to do maintenance, they can remove the granite slabs, and re-install them after. I've had countless friends and family from Houston, Austin, Denver, etc.....that have commented on how clean and nice our streets are compared to theirs when they visit our city. Let the dust settle from the massive influx of construction and I'm sure the city will give Franklinton this treatment as well.
  16. My guess is if Ohio does get "on this train" Cincinnati would also be included, it's just very obvious to connect the 3 at high speed. Also, love that they did a great drone shot of Columbus when this was mentioned :)
  17. I think the plan has always been to "remove" the narrow-enclosed space as the goal is to actually enlarge and widen the walkway as a whole for park space. They are doubling the width if not more. I really like that this will connect 3 of Edwards' properties in the future. This also allows the residents of the Preston Center to use the amenity deck and rooftop pool of their 195 E Broad Street building as well as their proposed 12 story building next to Preston Center and connected to the renovations and upcoming restaurants and bars in the atrium right on capital square. As the property owner of multiple sites, it's honestly a great way to interconnect them and allow them to benefit from each one's amenities.
  18. Columbus travel numbers expected to set a new record in 2024 Airlines like Delta, Spirit and Southwest continue adding flights on a monthly basis out of Columbus. This summer nine more spots will join the lineup. "In 2019 we had our busiest year ever, right before the pandemic started," Betsy Taylor, manager of Passenger Airline and Business Development, said. "Obviously everything changed with that, but when we look forward to 2024, we're expected to beat that number. We're expecting our busiest year ever at Columbus airports." The new $2 billion terminal will increase gate capacity from 29 to 36 gates, and allow for overnight aircraft parking. This could also speed up conversations about international travel options in Columbus. "Columbus is growing and so are our passenger numbers and that leads to good conversations,"
  19. LOL I appreciate that, but again, for all I know this could be something that is several years away yet. Zero intel on timeline. But I believe Edwards is in the ears of a lot of property owners downtown these days. He/they have a clear desire, motivation and vision for what they want downtown to become over the next 10-20 years.
  20. Was out and about this past weekend and heard from a very credible source that VORYS is looking into building a totally brand-new headquarters/office tower on the corner of Gay & 3rd, the current surface parking lot they already own. Could be relatively significant too for approximately 200+ lawyers in the Columbus office alone plus supporting staff. Their offices next door then would be converted to residential/retail. Not sure of timeline, and I'm sure this is still very preliminary but curious to see if we hear any announcements in the somewhat near future.

Is there a key for what the different zone codes mean?
  22. We were down at the market this past weekend. It looks like they've really come a long way on all the really tedious underground levels!! Should be seeing more vertical progression moving forward I would think!!
  23. It is the same ownership of Arch City Tavern in the Short North. I'm sure it will be somewhat more upscale from TipTop, but their style is still relatively casual. From what I understand the building physically was on the verge of collapse, so I'm very happy to see this moved to ownership that is capable of making the necessary changes and structural needs. Did they give any anticipated timeline by chance?
  24. Me and my fiancé, who currently own a home on the west side that has already roughly doubled in value in 5 years (so glad I bought in 2018), have a 10-15 year plan to transition to condo living downtown. We will definitely be part of this change.
