***Cross Posting from Business thread as it's population related. Remove if not allowed. Downtown Columbus slated for nearly $3 billion in development projects, report finds Nearly $3 billion downtown Columbus projects are in the pipeline and $228 million worth of projects were finished last year. 21 projects under constructions downtown currently and 31 projects proposed. 16 completed in 2023. The report also showed that population downtown grew 3% from 2022 to 2023. There are currently 1,831 apartment units proposed for downtown Columbus, which doesn't include the 2,260 under construction currently or that have been recently completed. A goal of 40,000 residents downtown by 2040 is in line with this construction rate.

  3. Honda and LG Energy Solution begin hiring for Ohio battery plant Hiring is underway at Honda Motor Co. and LG Energy Solution's new $3.5 BILLION Ohio battery plant. Hiring the first of 2.200 workers.
  4. Anyone else notice a conceptual building roughly 15+ stories in the distance where Diamond Cellars is located on the right, and a much taller glass one on the left, which would suggest a building on top of where the LeVeque tower garage is? Probably just for rendering purposes but still. Also, I really hope they follow through which how much canopy cover is suggested in these renderings!!
  5. It'd be interesting to have a similar list but by major cities, and which ones are more federally dependent.
  6. As I highly doubt they will ever put it back in it's original location, I've always thought an appropriate replacement could be the statue of Lucas Sullivant. Either the one over in Genoa park by Cosi or a newly commissioned one. He's the true surveyor/settler of the area. Just my two cents, I know there are plenty of opinions and good ideas out there.
  7. My company/employer is in Philly and I visit on occasion. From my co-workers that live there, this doesn't necessarily surprise me, they keep talking about how many people from NYC moved to Philly in recent years. Still has a relatively NY feel yet considerably more affordable that NYC. Just my two cents from people I know that actually live there. They're not necessarily happy about it though because the NYC folks have a larger purchasing power and are making the home buying a bit more difficult for the longer time locals. It's amazing, Columbus is the highest/fastest on this list, and I feel like we are still in the early ramp up stages of in Intel influx and their suppliers on the way. I have a feeling we will be on this list for many consecutive years to come!! I'm glad I bought my house when I did because it's already double in price in 5 years!!
  8. Columbus, Ohio, and Austin, Texas, see biggest population gain: Report "Columbus, Ohio, and Austin, Texas, saw the largest population growth among major U.S. metropolitan areas during the last half of 2023, a new report found." "Both cities had a year-over-year population increase of a little over 1 percent between 2022 and 2023, according to the report from the Bank of America Institute."
  9. Columbus Symphony Orchestra planning 'iconic' performance venue on the Scioto Peninsula costing $275 million "As currently envisioned, the 200,000-square-foot hall would feature a 1,600-seat main orchestra hall, at least nine multi-purpose spaces, rehearsal halls, education space, a community theater, a 500-seat event space and more."
  10. I've heard pretty reliable rumors that this is already in the planning stages for future expansions on this.
  11. Is there a timeline that has been released on this? Will this thing be fairly vertical into this Summer ahead?
  12. I recently came into possession of a rumor that may or may not end up having weight, that Edwards is luring Vorys into their newly renovated Preston Center over on Broad Street and Vorys is considering selling their current office to Edwards, along with the sizable surface lot at the corner of Gay and 3rd they currently own. Could be an interesting transfer and potentially invigorate more activity and commercial/residential on Gay.
  13. Another sizable surface parking lot bites the dust. More infill and walkability block by block of our city continues. I'm all for it. Right behind the renovated Preston Center and along the soon to be high line. Also several restaurant/breweries going in nearby among other residential conversions within the block. Keep em coming!!
  14. At this point I'm a bit indifferent if they save the entirety of the original building, or just a portion of it. It sounds like they may be able to keep some of it and incorporate a return of SW someday to the site. In terms of adding/returning another restaurant to an area that is and will continue to blow up with more apartments and residential units and population, I'm all for it. The site itself is quite unique, plenty of options depending on the various visions/directions it could go. I personally would like to see them activate both the Broad Street side AND the State Street side with commercial space. There is a great opportunity to add commercial to State Street connecting the Peninsula, which will have the new PINS a few blocks east and all the activity over at Gravity/Land Grant. A 15-story building on the Broad side will line up with newly built Gravity 2.0 building (block views but hey that's how growing cities work, it's a good "problem" to have IMO) But I think there's also opportunity to push the building back and maybe put the 15 stories more on the State Street side to stagger between the already existing new buildings in the area. Heck, maybe even a 15 story on both sides with SW tucked in the middle. It would be great if the SW building could be magically picked up and placed more street front and not just smack dab in the middle of this huge lot. Building around it is quite a hassle. If they save the building and it's completely built up around, you won't see it from any kind of street presence, and it will almost be like a hidden pocket surrounded by all new buildings and parking decks. To that point, for rail/noise purposes, I would think they would want to build the garages up just above the tracks so any apartments are above that line.
  15. I thought the Ohio Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program money they received, it is contingent on ALL of the site being demo'd by a certain date. "The state is providing about $13 million for the Westland Mall demolition, said Curtiss Williams, president and CEO of the Central Ohio Community Improvement Corp. (Franklin County's land bank), which applied for the money. "It's a big deal, a really big deal," Williams said. The agreement with the state calls for the demolition to be finished by the end of June, Williams said." Ohio to pay to demolish Westland Mall
  16. I just drove by during my lunch break knocking out some grocery shopping, and it's still completely up. They've seem to have intentionally been careful to preserve this building and tear everything else around it down. Just not sure why. Unless there some hazardous cleanup inside that needs to take place first that is unseen. This photo is from today. I did notice they've started to really tear up all the concrete and asphalt on the entire site in the last week or so.
  17. The skinny building on the end that will house the French restaurant, will that also go into the ground floor of that red building it's attached to? The end building just seems way to narrow to house the whole thing.
  18. So I know the Sears building is staying up till the gun shows are done, which I think is by like May or June. But why is this white building still standing? I thought this was part of the full tear down? Anyone have any info on this?
  19. Given it's proximity to New Albany and the wealth that comes from that area among others in central Ohio, I'm not surprised by stores like this being viable for Easton.
  20. Will this be all concrete construction like the Hilton 2.0, or will steel go into this?
  21. I could totally see City Club eventually entering the Columbus space. Even if it's over in Franklinton to add their modern flair to the area.
  22. Will this project be as tall or even taller than the nearby Residence Inn? I've always felt their similar height around the corner from each other will compliment the area well.
  23. I don't even remember a true ground breaking ceremony lol
  24. So do we know the other players? It says multiple in excess of $40.
  25. I have it from a good source that a long time Short North gallery is moving to the Madison building once completed. Edwards wants to make this area more artsy and is luring them this way, along with the French Bistro going in and seafood restaurant.
