  1. I spend a lot of time down south… tried it 3 times and each time… I’ll spare you the details
  2. I’ve always had a problem with that too @Pablo especially because I know spade trucks exist. The only thing I can think of in this situation is the root system was probably so deep that they were impossible to move. Yes, there were some big trees over there but you have to think they were probably only about 50 years old. I’ve known about them for at least 20, so if they replant we have about a decade for it to look fairly close again.
  3. Simple business decision; they know the market rate can’t justify the cost to recover their money from a preservation and operating standpoint.
  4. Couldn't have said it better myself. The south High example is not comparable to Clintonvilles commercial corridors in my opinion. They were developed at different times and Clintonville is much more “urban” than that area of town.
  5. The neighborhoods ARE great, the commercial corridors are the disappointment.
  6. Not to beat a dead horse but you’re so right, a ton of missed opportunities in Clintonville. That area of town could be GREAT. Instead it reminds me of where I grew up in Wheeling(or Saint Clairsville); odd commercial spaces that front formerly grand homes, basically ruining them. What appears to be no code or cohesion, just an absolute mess and rant over. Clintonville is the most disappointing neighborhood in Columbus, not close.
  7. Cleveland has had a lot of success with redoing their arcades… this is a true hidden gem, especially for a city the size of Newark
  8. Dead zone!? You bite your tongue!(kidding) I just still love Byrnes, Grandads and Ohio Tap Room.
  9. That’s exactly it though nobody is saying BP is going to be a regional attraction and that’s not it’s intended purpose. But for those in Powell, Dublin, Marysville, etc it works and provides an alternative to dragging the whole family 30-45 minutes to downtown. The core and the suburbs are still experiencing growth, as those core residents move out to the suburbs for schools, jobs or just a change in lifestyle, things like BP fill the gap from their time living in SN, GV or Grandview, etc.
  10. Lane Ave going east out of UA is one of the best views. It makes it look like downtown and campus connect, very underrated.
  11. I don’t really think you can compare the two because as you said one is the extension of the urban center of the metro area and one is trying to create a new urban center in the suburbs. Looking at the former you could argue that the Peninsula is somewhat of a let down because of the lack of major height and diversity in design, etc. I don’t really think a slight difference of color and building materials makes up for the lack of character. The hotel at Bridge Park makes a statement, I don’t think you have that at the Peninsula yet.
  12. Thoughts are a renovated Mapfre/LDC, new practice facility and keeping with the sports theme a new field house replaces the OSHP facility(dark green). The Columbus Live! portion would have year round crowds as many would use the hotels for the Crew, OSU football, Fair, Congress, high school sports and concerts at the field house and stadium. Brown = Offices for AQHC and possibly the OHSAA? Purple = Hotels Pink = Mixed Use Dark Blue = various sized parking decks, used by the fair, Congress, entertainment, hotels, etc.
  13. I’ve never understood that area… all due respect but why is our state police training facility still right there? The facility out in Reynoldsburg makes the most sense and you could probably even cross train to get EMS certifications, etc. A lot of questionable decisions. Thankful for LDC kind of “completing” the AD but this was such a missed opportunity to do something impactful with this stretch of land.
  14. @VintageLifelet me know if this shows up, I did a very amateur sketch of a similar idea back in 2019. I really think they missed the ball on this and could’ve really created another district. Possibly even added office/event space for the Quarter Horse Congress.
  15. I mean look at it just 5-10 years ago from present day… but I am with you I think in the next 10 years 5th will be 80% “fronted” from ORR to Grandview Ave… I think you’ll see places like Mickeys and the plaza stay, Chipotle and Taco Bell but the whole south side will probably be redeveloped in that time frame
  16. It’s very noticeable from 670, so despite it not being your desired height I think it will have a bigger impact than anticipated.
  17. This has been the case for over a decade and never improved. I did a project on it for my city & urban planning class back in 2009-10ish.
  18. I try not to get too in-depth with these as I don’t try to meddle in other districts business. But who the hell sits on the university districts board? I can’t think of many permanent residents of the district other than those that live close to Indianola & Frambes/Lane then north of Lane and east of High. Correct me if I’m wrong please.
  19. Been to Container Bar, great place! Honorable mention for Starland Yard in Savannah, was there a few months ago and it’s a cool container based place as well.
  20. Say it again for those in the back. The biggest part that gets me is that most people think it’s so easy. They see the fruits of your labor but not the day to day effort it takes to make it work. That’s why I got into such a heated debate about it on a Clintonville post I believe.
  21. Exactly the reason why some of those gravel lots on Vine will be in place for the next 3 years at minimum.
  22. Depending in the size, other excavation work can take place. They will just have to shore up the graveyard and do that section last.
  23. Not sure how true it is but I’ve heard even to bury them during a residential remodel AEP is extremely stubborn to give the green light.
