  1. Don’t forget they also restored two historic buildings that bookend that project. The hate for Edwards really isn’t necessary, they’ve given downtown a ton.

By my count there are only 8 “non-urban” /parking lots left in that stretch. Greystone, Local Bar Plaza, Check Cashing*, Family Dollar*, Monte Cristo*, OSU Doctors Offices(across from N High Brewing), Kroger & former 7-11. Three of the eight are slated for redevelopment.

Incredible, did the rough count, around 40 new builds on that portion of high since I started my freshman year at OSU in the fall of 2006.
  4. I think another thing to keep in mind too is the urban area we have in a centralized location versus the other two C’s. We have campus all the way to Grange Insurance to the south, that is a vast area to be in our urban core. Included in that are several 10+ story buildings but also a lot of areas that need infilled. I would predict by 2030 we will be at or past the other two just simply based on the land available to do so. We haven’t even mentioned the two possible towers to complete the Jeffrey, the next hospital expansion or the Scioto Peninsula project. That’s why in the previous 5-10 years I’ve never understood people demanding towers. We started with a good base, we’ve had good to great infill in the past decade and in the next we will see the skyline being added to, no doubt! Don’t believe me, look at the Short North 5 years ago compared to now.
  5. The space by Columbia was always slated for green space I believe..
  6. I know that Hilton was going to be the hotel partner at the millennial... they were hunting a few different prospects to fully lease out the office space before building.. that has been the challenge.. take it fwiw
  7. Honestly the buzz has been around for a decade and I am personally happier with that being sustained versus an all out boom. The big thing is the goals that leadership set out to accomplish by 2020 were met years before and to me that's a good thing.
  8. @bumsquare do you want to elaborate on your "HAHA" response?
  9. Summer of 2018 was probably the peak, there were 20+ tower cranes up in the Columbus Metro, with the majority(15) being along the High Street corridor, not counting the massive crawler at Columbus Commons. A lot of those projects are complete so there aren't nearly as many. But during that time the other 5 were spread from Reynoldsburg/Gahanna, Grove City, Dublin and Polaris. There will soon be about 5 in and around Ohio State's campus, there is one or two at Easton currently. The airport rental facility currently has two and I believe one or two in the Polaris area. Dublin's Bridge Park will have a couple and I assume the massive project on Lane Ave in UA will have one or two. I believe the main difference is that a majority of Columbus' growth is within or near 270 as it is a much newer city versus it's counterparts to the north and south. There are much more infill opportunities in Columbus as well in my opinion because it never had a great central core like the others enjoyed/kept.
  10. If you look at all the commercial and office space being built it's pretty obvious. And to be honest Columbus is in the infancy stages of one right now and has been for about 5 years.
  11. Because JO holds 10k and already has the ability to host both of the sports? And to be honest is extremely underutilized. Why not just have contributed to the Covelli Center to create a training facility for both squads and use the rest of the money elsewhere, like idk giving out more scholarships to the athletes?
  12. Well then keep the natural grass, doesn't matter to me, another stadium is not needed.
  13. That stadium was a POS, no other word for it... Should they have done something else but move to Heinz? Probably but the Petersen is a very nice arena
  14. I just laugh when people complain and act as if similar cities have a ton of outside influence on their development. Outside of the big 3-4 and cities like Nashville and Austin, it's simply not true. Cleveland and Cincinnati would kill to have the action going on that Columbus does and yet all anyone does is yes, complain!
  15. Sorry but this is just plain dumb, they can both play at Jesse Owens if they retrofit it with field turf.
  16. And the fact that they were the first to do it, several other cities have studied the success of the Arena District and Easton to model in their cities. To me that's a great thing and something we can be proud of in Central Ohio. @jonoh81
  17. Minus that Flight Options/Flexjet and affiliated Nextant Aerospace are based there and need to be because Burke is so hit or miss in the winter.
  18. I bet he was whispering to commit violations in their ears like Joe Biden
  19. A post by @aderwent on the Harrison West thread had me thinking, how can we show people that we are going "high" in Columbus. Here is yet another paint creation from me. All the one's with green dots are in progress or approved, the reds are proposed including those for the Scioto Peninsula and the proposed tower finale to Jeffrey Park. Also Crew Stadium and it's "neighborhood."
  20. You're not going to fine much in the way of crabbing in Central Ohio, but everything else is just a short drive away. King's Island(Cincinnati) is closer than Cedar Point, but with the latter you have the gold standard of amusement park's just a little over two hours away in Sandusky. The bonus here is you have Lake Erie and it's islands close, family friendly during the day as there is a lot of history in that area. If you're looking for outdoors you're very close to High Bank Metro Park and Alum Creek State Park. Also Mohican State Park is within an hour for you on the north end of town. Hocking Hills is our hidden gem in central Ohio and it's a little over an hour south starting just below Lancaster and extending close to Athens. You're also very close to some VERY cool cities, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Lexington, Louisville, Indianapolis and Detroit are all within 4 hours drive from Columbus. Also you have the New River Gorge area of West Virginia within that range as well. Chicago and the Indiana Dunes area of Lake Michigan are about 5-6 hours away if that interests you at all. Hope this helps and enjoy your new home, Ohio really is "the heart of it all!"
  21. The two on the left are used for event staging areas and don't really have the structure to support buildings, but would be cool to do food trucks on them or something. The one behind Bar 23 is spec'd to get a condo building or a hotel, there is info on it under the convention center thread I believe. *Edit: The lot behind the "Park Royal Apartments" has been long rumored for redevelopment but it has never happened.
  22. Ok, come up with the money then; $200 million dollars of investment and 500k sqft of office space alone on what could've been a single story Giant Eagle is a positive. And if I don't know what I'm talking about then you REALLY don't have room to complain because you haven't been in Columbus long enough.
  23. I'll second the $200 million is not cheap, considering the Normandy & Neilston apartments just sold last week for $62 million.
  24. *rolls eyes* Casto is one of the oldest commercial real estate firms in the city, I'm calling BS unless their retail arm has fallen on hard times.
