  1. Just when you think you know everything about Central Ohio, you learn that Chipotle has a corporate office in Polaris and that DHL is a major employer in Westerville! Congrats to Westerville (and Central Ohio) on getting the new North and South American headquarters for DHL!!! DHL is GREAT news! Chipotle has had a pretty significant presence here for quite a while, over a decade at least. Still great to see that we were chosen to receive the additional jobs.
  2. For comparison, here is the current layout. This is such a weird project. On one hand they are adding a much larger, much more urban-designed building, but on the other, they're keeping just as much parking as before, and the way it's setup, it's just like a much larger strip mall than before. There is zero street interaction with any of the nearby roads and is incredibly unfriendly to anything but cars. There's nothing really that makes this attractive to the potential residents, IMO. Where are they going to go? I guess this is not surprising considering Don Casto Sr. was one of the original creators of the strip mall, so they're sticking with what they know. I suppose they could build on some of that surface parking at a later date, but as it stands, it's another letdown for me personally. Columbus desperately needs some serious urban developers. Another awkward development for an awkward part of town...
  3. Think outside the box a bit, warehouses equal jobs and an economic boost to a neighborhood that sure could use it. There's a lot of development that could go there that would give the area an economic boost. Pretty much anything but a vacant lot would. I just think warehouses are squarely inside the box, personally. It can be re-purposed/developed quicker as warehouses; otherwise it would be a greenfield development aka more money and years of red tape.

  5. If Schottenstein didn't back out(like they so often do) so quick on the "Grand Central" development this project would look a lot better. You would've essentially had no break in the streetscape outside of the highway overpasses and the bridge to Olentangy (which is about 1/10th of a mile total) between downtown and Grandview Yard.
  6. Not at all surprised. The "lego" comment is totally valid, though. They need to show precedents in other cities if they haven't already -- and further explain that this is an EMPTY site and the potential tax advantages of having 200+ apartments on this small site. They are an urban-adjacent residential neighborhood. If not here then on High Street. What difference does it make? The Short North is only going to get wider... Might as well start here with a building that actually attempts to mitigate the difference in scale. You're missing a huge point. There are parking/traffic constraints already and this is along price which is a narrow one way street on one side and a primarily residential street that doesn't even feed down to Neil on the other. People need to stop comparing this to Atlanta and NYC because it is not in any way similar. I am 10000000000% for apartments and a project at that site, but not at it's proposed size. Something more like the Jerome, Aston Place or even something from Neighborhood Launch are more appropriate. Oh for heaven's sake...it is along Price and 2nd and is what, 100 or 200 feet from High-which is where all of the traffic will be going. It sounds like you live right on this street and are being a NIMBY lol. There is nothing wrong with the size or location. You don't put something like Neighborhood Launch here for God's sake. That is crazy. How far do you live from this project?-it sounds like you are very much more concerned about this one than any other project ever proposed for the city. *now the materials, colors, quality, etc. -that is a different matter. And yes the thing on the Commons is a monstrosity and I agree I would be more concerned with that than the height on this. If it turns out like that thing, it will be disastrous. I will agree on that. My point is the Neilston and Normandy both hold 130 units at 5 stories each. If you bump those up to 7-8 stories versus 10-12 or 14 on the Price site, you have somewhere around 180-200+ units. This project would be passed with minimal kickback at 7-8 stories of JUST residential, but Kaufman won't do that and they will be in for a fight for that reason.

  8. It's not a block, it's right next door. That's also why I referred to Houston in a previous post, but where those are built they're in master-planned communities not one that's a century+ old. And this thing looks like the hideous monstrosity on Columbus Commons, that Kaufman also built.
  9. Ashland fell from 516 to 705 and Valvoline debuted at 933; their combined revenue would've bumped them up about 10 spots this year from last so just outside of the 500 at around 506. General Cable at 621 is out of Highland Heights which is Cinci/NKY. Of note for Columbus Ascena Retail(Lane Bryant's parent) is 423 and NiSource (Columbia Gas' parent) checks in at 535.
  10. I'm an idiot and had to delete my response.

What made people willing to "admit" they were from Seattle in the 90s? Was it because they wanted to be associated with the "birthplace" of a particular genere kind of like Detroit or Nashville? Does Cincinnati's relative lack of a nationally-recognized "sound" cause people to claim they're from somewhere cooler, or is it typical Midwest insecurity? Obviously there's a certain level of marketing attached to it. Walk the Moon sang the National Anthem at the All-Star Game in Cinci back in 2015 fwiw.

i think dwight yoakum used to pull that too. not sure if he was born, but i always heard he was totally raised in columbus. he avoided that. country and hip hop acts really try play up their stereotypes. and here we have rock guys trying to get away with shaving years off. its all kind of humorous. Dwight is cousins with a good friend of mine(actually got to meet him when he played at the fair last summer). He is more of a "Bakersfield" style artist which gets sort of a bad wrap as is because it's California and not the south or Texas. Not sure if that had anything to do with him hiding his birthplace or not as this is the first I've heard of it.
  13. You just described every cross street in Manhattan. It works there thousands of times over. I think it can work here in Columbus at least once It's Manhattan and has been like that for a century. This street is fronted by 2-3 story houses so it's not the same. Drive down that street and then come back with a response because you sound ridiculous and it is a major problem for folks who bought there. It's a half a block off of High Street and 14 stories, it does not belong, this is not Houston or any other city without guidelines and I believe WE need to stick to them in this case or else we'll have a 14 story uninspiring mass towering over our pride and joy.
  14. Look at their Columbus Commons project and realize that you're getting 14 stories of that in the Short North. I love the density but not in this location. It's a small residential street on one side and a narrow one way on the other, it doesn't fit.
  15. Also what are they going to do when Woods Cos completes their project on High. That will mean all of those folks up to floor 6 will be blocked in by a building, that would be GREAT!
  16. I love how their rendering is trying to pretend like that side of the building isn't on a narrow one way street.
  17. It's amazing how close the statistics are for Columbus versus Nashville...there are certainly signs of physical growth in Columbus, but in Nashville the sheer number of tower cranes and small infill projects is on a much higher level. We had 20+ tower cranes up in the past year in the Columbus metro and a good majority of those were downtown or surrounding neighborhoods. We ARE there at both the tower crane level and the infills in surrounding urban neighborhoods.
  18. I hate to say it, but I despise this building to the extent that it makes the glass box next to it appear to be an architectural masterpiece lol. Damn it is ugly and squat and dark and cheap looking to me-like it is a nightmare made out of cardboard. lol. Oh well. It appears that most people like it or are ok with it. *So strange to me how I love the 12 story building on High that is against the parking garage, but can't help but detest this one. And that's why I am so against Kaufmanns proposal behind Northstar in the Short North... this is quality that they produce

They're the ones paying cash for the $400K+ homes and I work in the construction field so I'm far from complaining.
  20. Need to find a link but Bridge Street will be home to "ForeFest" in conjunction with the Memorial Tournament.

And making our housing market as ridiculous....
  22. I do too, one of my biggest pet peeves. Maybe once they do the 4th St. Streetscape project they can bury them(and I'm not being sarcastic if they ever do that it needs to happen).
  23. A cool painted sign on the side of the Rossi.
