Metro Columbus: Road & Highway News
Two lanes is too little even during the middle of the day. The turnoff's near the farms are extremely dangerous too for the speed and amount 33 is traveled as well.

When is the last time you were downtown? Not everyone wants to live in the city and even those that do won't ALL want to take public transportation. Why wouldn't people be allowed to use other modes if rail transit existed? So all other options would be taken away if one was added? Sorry responded to this by mistake and don't know how to delete it.

I have not but in saying that I'm not surprised. Even with the current conditions they're easier to get to than Grove City. Also Groveport's new high school is only going to help.

Ok but again, do we really need it? People b*tch and moan all the time about how much Nationwide is costing taxpayers, imagine what that would be with a billion dollar rail project. Personally myself and my friends all 28-35 would rather have the rail connection to Chicago versus a trail in town. We have uber and lyft and the COTA circulator; personally I'm good! Who's "we"? I-270 cost billions. Do we need it? It doesn't produce a penny in income. Personally, I don't care about others' individual happiness. Actually I-270=commerce=income for our economy, so WRONG!

Agreed and honestly is probably a significant factor in why a places like Canal and Groveport have had their growth stunted. Once this is finished I could see that changing.

Cinci's cost $200 million and they didn't get shit for it IMO; the Euclid Corridor project in Cleveland cost $220 million and revitalized that area for the most part. My point is that our project is not as easy as you make it sound, if it goes to the suburbs it will be every bit of a billion dollars whether you want to believe it or not. Creating a line from downtown to the airport alone would be close to a quarter to half a billion all day. I don't feel that it needs to go to the outer 'burbs, especially initially. There isn't much need for that type of connection here. It's not about "moving people" back and forth to Pickerington to cut down on car commuting. It's about creating more investment in our underutilized/underdeveloped core. That doesn't take a billion dollars. What part of our "core" is underdeveloped and not walkable? I saw people walking from Hofbrauhaus to the Final Four last weekend. I'm very confused by your response because it's not a good argument for rail.

Ummm the Scioto Peninsula says hello... They stated they need the 600,000 square feet almost immediately, not after two or three years of construction. So there is 600,000 square feet of office space just sitting there on the Scioto Peninsula? Well Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Peppers! I had no idea!!! lol ;) *the Scioto Peninsula (and parts of East Franklinton) would be great...for new buildings. Where is that office space they will need right away? Won't matter really since we won't get it ...just sayin'. Last I checked they weren't opening tomorrow... just sayin'

Columbus: Population Trends
Jerome is resisting pretty hard from what I've heard, for good reason. Dublin want's the tax dollars and potential tax dollars that Jerome has/will have. Westerville/Genoa work pretty well from what I've heard but the interesting one will be the three that encompass the Olentangy School District. Liberty, Orange and Berlin all fall into that district; they now have 4 total high schools and Berlin TWP is on the verge of exploding in that area. In the next decade it will be interesting to see what town takes the leadership role in Berlin TWP in that time frame or will it just remain the TWP as the population explodes.

Columbus: Population Trends
Westerville is only 12.61 square miles. Grove City is 16.36. Grove City has annexed more than Westerville since the 2010 census. Wouldn't be surprised if they're over 17 square miles now. Some of that is because what people think is Westerville is actually Columbus, Worthington, Lewis Center, Galena and Genoa Township. Perfect example of this is Genoa TWP, which is pretty much everything east of Africa Rd to Hoover and north of Polaris to Galena. Population in 2010 was 23k+ which would bump "Westerville" to around 60k. Polaris is roughly the gray or county line in this photo. pretty sure the northernmost parts of westerville in genoa and columbus on that map were annexed during the post 1990 or 2000 census. perhaps in some deal for polaris? not sure. its a free for all land grab up around there. perhaps ohio's most valuable or active potential development land? westerville was never as ambitious about any of this as they could be tho. Polaris itself lies in Delaware County but is part of Columbus. Where Westerville Central High School is located is actually Genoa TWP but with a Westerville address. It's considered Westerville but from a census perspective it is Genoa TWP and not annexed in any way by Westerville besides by the school district. Similarly there are parts of Worthington and Columbus that attended Westerville schools. My friend technically lives in Blendon TWP, pays Columbus taxes, kids would go to Westerville North and yet his address is Gahanna.

I was talking about this last week with some people, do we really need it the way our city is setup? If we get an airport connector and maybe a quick connect to the west, nw, ne and east past the airport do we need more than that? The city itself is nice, compact and fairly walkable. If COTA did quick routes like the circular to hot urban neighborhoods like Grandview, Clintonville, OTE and soon to be Franklinton we would be fine IMO.

wpcc88 replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionSlowly but surely they will start to disappear. The very small triangle shaped lot along 670 is a staging area for the Short North streetscape project but will also probably act as that when the Park Street hotel project gets underway. Also the light colored one between Vine and Spruce would've been taken up by a Market District had it not been for the Grandview Yard project and the recession. *Edit to say that we see a reboot of the Grand Central development, that area infilled would make downtown really pop from 670. People seem to complain a ton about how we're not moving like Nashville, Austin, etc but IMO Columbus is growing smart and sustainable. We have a ton of land area as you sort of pointed out in your initial post and infill on those doesn't happen overnight. If we keep the population growth and current pace of development in the next decade downtown will be infilled properly with a mix of midsized and large towers.

Wheeling: Developments and News
I'm actually really embarrassed that I had no idea this project was happening. That being said, it seems really damn pointless to me. The towns between Wheeling and Steubenville just seem way to small to justify this bridge. Plus, it won't even cut down travel time from Steubenville to Wheeling because WV-2 is not a freeway. But it'll be a cool project nonetheless - and maybe it could breathe some life into Brilliant because that town is really really suffering. I'll make a detailed post about this bridge project soon. I'd come to your defense but this has been in the works for a greater part of a decade or longer haha. Also, I was in Steubenville last week and WOW is that place a ghost town. It's really a shame to see the state of that city, Wheeling is in MUCH better shape. Weirton seems to be doing pretty well too.

When will Brook Park/Ford turn the former Cleveland engine plant into a major distribution hub? This would've been an ideal project for that area.
