Columbus: Short North Developments and News
wpcc88 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThere was one going up or coming down somewhere this afternoon in the short north. I was on my way to the airport when I saw it so I was unable to turn around and grab a picture. Based on what I saw from 670 this morning all three cranes were still standing in the Short North. I didn't see another crane going up, but I did see a smaller crane around the UDF/Haiku site, so that one could be building a crane today. It was at the UDF site, from the angle that I saw it yesterday it appeared to be building a crane.

US Economy: News & Discussion
GE, AT&T and Carrier all announced that in 2017. GE did it because they are pulling back from that part of their business and a lot of the jobs are overseas. I would like to see your proof on steel and mining because Murray has opened or reopened 3-5 new/old portals. All of that is fact.

Columbus: Scioto Peninsula Developments and News
OMG..their stuff is worse than Highpointe? Why did they choose this company? If they were not satisfied they should have just not picked any of them and started over. smh. I've seen both of Buckingham's projects that were mentioned in person; they are not as bad as 600 Goodale or 801 Polaris, but when Kaufman works with Daimler they do have a pretty good product. Highpoint does not look bad now that the block is becoming more uniform and businesses have filled in, when it was first built it stuck out like a sore thumb. It fits in with the neighborhood now, think about the Great Southern Hotel & Theatre building and that block versus the courthouse and 250 High versus Highpoint/LC.

Columbus: Old North Columbus Developments and News
Looks like this project on W. Norwich is moving forward. This is quite an excavation with a lot of rock to haul away. Has anyone seen a rendering of the final project? I was curious as to why there were dump truck staging on Neil Ave.; I just assumed they were for the Pavey Square project.

wpcc88 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionDon't forget the hotel at the former assisted living facility; I think you're right it's going to be great for the vibrancy of the neighborhood. Slowly but surely from Lane Ave to Main Street will be one solid corridor.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
wpcc88 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionA few updates here: 1. The progress on the UDF site is remarkable. 2. They are now using a much more quiet pile driver at the Haiku site; this one is a vibrating hammer versus pneumatic. 3. All elevator shafts and stairwells are complete at the Wood/Schiff site, not much action there today though.

Columbus: Crime & Safety Discussion
US 23/33 are known drug highways, without question it was drug related. My hometown of Wheeling, WV has been plagued with a drug problem for nearly two decades and nearly every drug related arrest or shooting has ties to Cleveland. Here is another example of a former star high school athlete from Cleveland that was caught in that area: http://www.cleveland.com/osu/2013/07/former_ohio_state_buckeyes_rec_1.html "At the time, it was known that Small was facing drug charges in Meigs County, Ohio." "Authorities said the grand jury indictments stemmed from an April search of Small’s Columbus apartment that yielded heroin and oxycodone, as well as a semi-automatic handgun and assault rifle."

Columbus: Crime & Safety Discussion
I would say crime in general, a significant amount of the murders have taken place in high drug areas and a lot of them seem like "turf war" scenarios. I cannot say this for sure but if you look at where property crimes are happening and the murders, you can see a direct correlation. And to me where property crimes are happening, drugs are being sold and used. Columbus has long been a drop point for drugs and it honestly hasn't changed much.

Columbus: Crime & Safety Discussion
Agreed! I have watched, read and experienced part of this Heroin/Fetanyl epidemic as much as possible. From all of that I've gathered that some believe it has reached it's peak. Now how long that peak will last is still up for debate but I believe they said peak crack lasted for 2-5 years. It seems as though meth lasted for about two years and then "disappeared." My thoughts are these high numbers, particularly here in Central Ohio have peaked. We will probably be high again next year depending on what kind of winter we have in 2018.

Columbus: Crime & Safety Discussion
1. That's the Franklin County Sheriff's Office that is responsible for this story. 2. Not a good look still as they allowed a Fetanyl OD under their watch recently as well. 3. Columbus Police do need some sort of overhaul and I believe it starts at the top. 4. We do need to be aware of all the crime that they do see, we are a heavy drug trafficking location and the cops have to be tough on high crime areas or else we'll turn into Chicago.

Toledo: Downtown: ProMedica HQ / Edison Plant Redevelopment
I will give it to Toledo, was there for a wedding in September. The downtown for a city that size was very impressive and there wasn't a baseball or hockey game going on, just a concert both nights on the river. Bar scene was great, restaurant scene was great, accommodations at the Renaissance was great. Kudos Toledo!

Columbus: Random Development and News
wpcc88 replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionFrom that article it looks like that trailer park(with over 100 trailers) is doomed. Getting rid of the poor people so more luxury housing can be built, while virtually no new affordable housing is being built anywhere. smh. Hell they are getting rid of at least a third of what is left of San Margherita. Most of the houses on the south side of Trabue are going too. Disgusting. Just to put in another fucking luxury development while helping to destroy an historically significant village. I wonder if any of those houses still have the grapes and figs(they would overwinter them and they would survive). Just a damn shame. And nobody gives a damn. looks like 7 or 8 of the 22 or so homes remaining will be lost. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Margherita,_Ohio Screw this development. Literally one of those house has grapes or figs or whatever you're angry about. The businesses along McKinley have fallen in disrepair and the trailer park has zero historical significance and most of those lots are leased anyways(that's how they typically work). It's history is not in-tact and they're at least keeping Johnnie's so that's a positive.

Columbus: Italian Village Developments and News
wpcc88 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThere is a Phase 2? I had no idea. Also, how big is that garage going to be? I don't see any room at Lincoln and Pearl for a parking garage unless they demolish existing buildings. http://www.columbusunderground.com/new-short-north-office-building "The companies announced this afternoon that they plan to construct a new 11-story office building at 711 North High Street, replacing an existing public parking lot owned by the City of Columbus. The project is being referred to as a public-private partnership with the city, as the existing 45 public parking spaces will be replaced with 125 publicly-available parking spaces in the form of a new garage a block east at the northeast intersection of Lincoln and Pearl." "The new parking garage located at the intersection of Lincoln and Pearl will sit in Italian Village, and will also include residences facing Lincoln Street to integrate with the existing fabric of the neighborhood."

wpcc88 replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI absolutely HATED this when it was proposed, mainly because of the scale. Now that the structure itself is complete, I have to eat crow because I like it :).

wpcc88 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionYou can just barely see the Park Street project from 670 currently. I came in from the airport that way today and you could see the crane that was driving the pilings in at the Haiku site from 670. With the project topping out at 10 stories it is going to be very visible from 670, even during the summer.
