Grandview Heights: Developments and News
It's been almost a year since the approval, I wonder when this will get started. From what I've heard on Grandview facebook group this plan has fallen through. Typically I wouldn't put much thought into a comment on a facebook group, but it was from the former Columbus Business First development writer. Interesting, but not shocking.

Here are some additional renderings of the Heartland Bank HQ project from https://www.ruscilli.com/projects/heartland-bank-corporate-headquarters/ The building itself is up, I will try to grab a couple pictures this week or next.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Heritage Bank Center
Just an outsiders perspective on a few things: 1. UC, the city, the owner of the arena really screwed the pooch on what a collaboration would've meant for the city of Cincinnati and region as a whole. 2. The arena is an absolute embarrassment for a city the size of Cincinnati. 3. They need to make something happen no matter the cost; people complain all the time about Nationwide but those people don't realize what that arena actually means to Columbus. It has helped us attract a number of NCAA events in the upcoming years including a women's final four. And just this past year the women's volleyball national championship. No matter how nice UC's new arena it won't even come close to being able to host any of those events. 4. Do better Cincinnati, you have a great opportunity and a very nice region to show off.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
wpcc88 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionCould be, they're definitely not the only project that has stalled. It seems metalworkers and concrete finishers are where we are lacking. Also I wonder where steel demand is and if that's stalling some projects. Most major cities are going through a construction boom in some way shape or form so I wouldn't be surprised if that is an issue for a lot of these projects. Too bad the government couldn't forsee that 20-35 years ago when they put the American steel industry on the chopping block with some of these trade deals. Those trade deals cheapened the cost of steel. I'm not sure that has anything to do with the supply issue. Sure, it killed some low-wage steel-working jobs, but it helped the bottom line of the companies building, which should enable the more-wealthy corporations to hire more people, right? Some low-wage steel working jobs? You just killed your whole point there, enough so that I'm not even going to respond to such a snobby reply with what I know and think because you don't deserve that. I will say this via trickle down effects it cost our state alone 10's of thousands of jobs and crushed the economy of eastern Ohio.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
It's not a Republican issue, the Democrats did nothing to move any of this forward.. the Amtrak system in the Northeast is an embarrassment and 90% of that goes through Democrat strongholds and to think this would go through Detroit/Michigan which is an infrastructural and financial mess is the only actual pipe dream in your response

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
wpcc88 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThere's activity on the site. A lane is temporarily shut down on High and Hubbard and Pearl are closed. It may be utility work ahead of demolition and construction. Looks like just simple disconnection utility work at the moment. The true indicator of progress is when they put the guards up on the wires; when that happens you'll start seeing demo and construction. Speaking of action it seems like the work on the UDF redevelopment has ground to a halt. The last time someone was out working on it was Thursday of last week.

Ohio: General Business & Economic News
With the way everything is laid out currently with their operations in the region Columbus makes sense. Fulfillment centers in all of the 3-C's, expansion of data centers in central Ohio. Huntington, WV has a large call-center and all of that is within 3 hours of Columbus. Franklinton or the 3rd-4th Street corridor has plenty of land ripe for development of a new facility at a fraction of what it would cost in Austin/Nashville makes even more sense. Also one thing not mentioned in here is the $50 Million 'Smart City' grant that Columbus won earlier this year can't hurt. Also this which is open for "business": http://www.columbusunderground.com/amazon-opening-first-retail-pick-up-store-in-columbus

Ohio: General Business & Economic News
Maybe also North Carolina? Chicago is my guess, if it ends up putting in a decent bid. Large skilled workforce, reasonable development costs, great air connections, and the type of urban setting Amazon brass is comfortable with and sees as an asset. My guess is they want a true up-and-comer versus an established place like Chicago. Raleigh/Durham, Columbus, Indy, Nashville, Austin all make sense. Second tier in my opinion would be Cinci, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Charlotte. Third tier would be Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas. I for one am not a huge fan of the North Carolina options; it seems that state doesn't believe in sidewalks or walk-able suburbs in any sense of the word but for the lone reason of cheap real estate companies flock there.

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
wpcc88 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNice angle on this one; what a different place this area will be as we round out this decade. The potential of the Millennial project and the ones already completed and underway; this is the "hot" area of downtown proper. Now it just needs to infill with more destination restaurants and nightlife, which I'm sure will come along the way.

Pittsburgh: Developments and News
Our little sub region here of the 3-C's, Pittsburgh and Indy is doing quite well for itself as a whole. A ton of exciting things proposed and under construction in all of those places.

Columbus: Downtown: The Reach on Goodale / White Castle HQ
600 Goodale is cheap, look at it in depth. Maybe they could've worked with the same architect, but not the same developer. Elford builds quality and builds to last, they are a great choice. It is cheap. Pressure treated framing on the underside of the balconies is clearly visible in Google Streetview. :-/ It looks worse in person.

Ohio City and Regional Brands Penetrating Other Markets
I know for a fact that they are owned by the same people. The menu's and concept are the exact same. Condado very much so is working in Columbus seeing as how they have 3 locations that are all always packed. The "original" Condado is located in a place that was oddly enough one of the diviest dive bars in Columbus so you are right there :-). However it is a pretty nice little atmosphere and they have a great patio. Barrio's co-founder sold his share in Barrio - then founded the similar Condado in Columbus as a potential national testing ground. They don't appear to be/have been sister concepts from the same company: http://www.thelantern.com/2014/11/condado-tacos-giving-columbus-a-test-2/ My apologies, to clarify at the time they inquired with my former employer he was still affiliated with Barrio. Did not realize he cut ties with them in the meantime. As far as the menu and concept is concerned they are the exact same thing with small variances; I've been to both several times.

Ohio City and Regional Brands Penetrating Other Markets
I 1,000% agree with you about the suburban wives/girls at Cavs games; I have never got that and is kind of why I left Cleveland never to return. Columbus outside of spending money on Ohio State is a much more forward and modern way of how a cities are today; it's a lot younger than the two C's and almost nobody is actually from there. People of all walks of life casually mingle together much more and it's like how you describe Lakewood/Shaker, sitting next to a millionaire without even knowing it. It is a very trendy yet casual place, very hard to describe unless you live there or have visited often. You rarely see a 30 year old wearing a flat-bill and I like that. I will say too that those in Central Ohio are not afraid to flash their "money" at the same time; I'm a HUGE car fan and Columbus is a mecca for exotic cars. Whereas in Cleveland or Cincinnati you have to go to certain parts of town to catch a rare glimpse of one, in Columbus they are almost commonplace at all times of the year.
