Columbus: OSU / University Area Developments and News
wpcc88 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNot sure what necessarily makes this “new.” A lot of this minus the towers has been talked about/proposed for at least a decade. Moritz in particular was set to be replaced I believe about 8 years ago, don’t remember exactly why it hasn’t been yet. The St. John news has been officially unofficial for quite a while.

Johnstown: Developments and News
Johnstown may be thinking Northridge will absorb some of the blow. Also I know New Albany is similar to the Olentangy district in that they are now planning to build self standing buildings (away from their campus model) to support the expected growth.

Obetz: Developments and News
such a weird location but also disappointed because I’m one of the freaks that would support an LJS because the hush puppies have crack in them 🤣🤣🤣… that being said I never visited this location or any LJS for that matter in at minimum 5-6 years

The new Darling in Savannah or at least planned one looks like that from the exterior. Not sure it’s even opened yet.

Columbus: Weinland Park Developments and News
To be fair I said February or March because that’s what I’ve heard. Could be March 31st for all I know. That’s 7 months out from this week, not completely out of the realm, but I’m more leaning your side it’ll be summer or fall 2024.

That certainly looks like the Darling Oyster Bar and I for one would be a very happy camper if that was reality.

wpcc88 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt definitely did, but no way they have occupancy in October unless a miracle happens.

I’m hearing occupancy on that around February or March… seems like it’s going to be close

wpcc88 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWell then it would stop somewhere around 5th Ave… which probably could handle a light rail from High to Summit but then you’re clogging a main artery even further… tentatively it would connect to an existing track station via Lane.. run east on Lane to High, south to 5th and east to Summit, then onto downtown… then you have the station issue because there is virtually no room for them if this thing runs down the center of high street

wpcc88 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI don’t think a small tram solves any of Ohio State’s problems current or future. The campus is constantly under construction, for me I remember the med center being under some sort of construction dating back to the mid-90’s. As soon as it got built it would be out of use because it’s not as flexible on routes as busses are and I believe it’s really as simple as that for campus.

wpcc88 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAll jokes aside the airport is setup well for a line. The convention center is more so than anywhere else.

wpcc88 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI don’t disagree but the reality is this isn’t going to be the NY or Chicago subway systems. Just the way it would have to fit into the current infrastructure much like Austin did, it would be very similar to what the RTA. Since High St underwent a road diet in the SN it doesn’t leave much room for it to touch one of your core urban neighborhoods. The closest it will get is the AD, Grandview Yard and the Jeffrey. Same could be said for OSU, the closest it will get with the current infrastructure is west campus and the fairgrounds.

wpcc88 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionTouché, thought it was just in Minneapolis. Still doesn’t negate the times saving comment. You will still need to get to the station and get to your final destination. Btw I believe it can be done in central Ohio; I’m just not sure the benefits will outweigh the overall cost. The infrastructure exists minus to Westerville and New Albany to get all four corners to downtown and beyond. I’d estimate it in the current climate to cost about as much as the new terminal to make it a reality. You have to build stations, expand the lines, buy the cars and hire I’d imagine around 200-500 employees.

wpcc88 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionBecause they have to take multiple stops, honestly light rail isn’t solving that problem. Not sure where they drive in from but they’re honestly going to maybe save 10 minutes of their commute not counting getting too and from a station. Also construction in the area makes a direct route almost impossible. The only college towns to my knowledge with a light rail system are Austin and Morgantown. RDU doesn’t have it, Charlottes is kind of a mess, Nashville doesn’t, Indy doesn’t. Not saying we should compare ourselves but campus not having it isn’t rare. My mom tried to do the RTA in Cleveland and it actually took her longer to drive to the station, ride the train and then walk to work afterwards.

wpcc88 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionBut do they have great transit? I’d argue they don’t… maybe for their size but I’d say the appetite is there more for connecting the 3 C’s than it is for connecting Dublin or Westerville to downtown

John Glenn Columbus International Airport
Literally other than the south and west nobody has anything to offer CMH. The Dayton and Northern Cincinnati markets are the only thing that makes sense. Not saying you’re blowing smoke but again I’ve too been around decision makers and never heard this before you mentioned it earlier this week. Rickenbacker has some room for expansion but it would be at the expense of the logistics industry that brings billions to our region, aka not happening.

John Glenn Columbus International Airport
I’ve been here nearly 20 years and pretty aware of the rumors around town when it comes to this type of stuff. I can firmly say this is the first I’ve ever heard about the airport moving. Perfect example is the second outer belt, that’s been a rumor since at last 2004 if not longer. Now that the cat is officially out of the bag and you know I’m not blowing smoke this terminal is full steam ahead. Public knowledge let’s us know they have 25% of the money already and our property taxes are going up in Franklin County(not by mistake). They don’t just toss out the stuff I’ve personally seen and had my hands on just for fun. Now to entertain the rumors let’s see where it could potentially go. North - far too costly to build in Delaware County. Morrow doesn’t have the appetite, Knox doesn’t have the terrain, Marion is too far even with a new outer belt. West - The most attractive because you can corner the Miami Valley & Dayton markets. Madison County could make sense. Then you look at infrastructure and what could be taken over, OSU owns/manages a lot of land outside West Jeff on 70. South - logistical nightmare to be blunt. Could it happen? Yes. Will it? Probably not. They would have to build a full blown connector from Dayton even though it’s partially there. You could make it attractive to Cincinnati as well. The biggest contiguous plot of land available in the area(at least to my knowledge) is now Honda’s and that plot had been available for at minimum 10-15 years.

wpcc88 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI did a quote for this building earlier in the year… I’ll just say I’m not shocked it’s not in progress yet
