  1. Another problem I heard about the lights is that the drivers did not use both lanes to get on the highway. I also heard that some people did not go when they got the green light. Apparently the light changes quickly from green to red to allow only one car.
  2. Wedding receptions do, too. :) The developers are spending a minimum of $250 million on the casino without a hotel. I would imagine they would have several entertainment options as well.

I hate it when people wear them in the summer!! So do I, unless you are on the beach. I don't even find flip-flops comfortable, and I can't stand to wear them for a long time. I'll wear them when I go to the beach, a swimming pool, or after getting a pedicure. That's about it.

Why would you call someone by a name that they do not like (such as Mel)? And what if someone named Andrew wants to be called Drew? And there is nothing wrong with someone wanting to go by their formal name. The guy I know who prefers to be called James also has a father named James. His dad does go by Jim. James decided he wants to be called James so people do not get confused.

A pet peeve that keeps coming up with me is when people take liberties with names, specifically shortening them. I always introduce myself as Melanie, and I always use Melanie in any correspondence. I don't know why someone would decide to call me something else? Similarly, I know someone named James, and that's what he wants to be called. He only refers to himself as James. When we went to his wedding a few years ago, the minister called him Jim several times. I found it rather annoying.
  6. If anyone is to blame for the Metropole being redeveloped, I would put the blame on the prior owners who let the building get in its current condition, then selling it. Sherman has seen the inside of this building and posted about it, and no one should be living in those conditions. I find it more upsetting that the owners allowed roaches and rats to run around the building where humans live. I cannot be upset with the owners who are offering relocation assistance to a better place for the same amount of money. I do not live in rent now, but I have in the past. I'm pretty sure if my old apartment had been sold to a new owner that I would have been on my own to find a new place. There would have been no guarantee that I would find a better place for the same amount of money. It does not sound like 3CDC is mistreating the current residents of the Metropole.
  7. I still boycott Bill Cosby, Whoopi Goldberg, and Smokey Robinson because of their positions in the boycott of Cincy after the riots. When I was in NYC once, I turned down free tickets to some Broadway show because Whoopi was starring in it. I've been known to turn off TV's or change channels whenever I see someone watching the Cosby Show, etc. I think Cosby apologized? Several of those people broke contracts to avoid the city.
  8. ^ Bill Cosby did cancel a performance after the riots. Bad decision.

Announcement of a Christian Moerlein brew pub.
  10. There is always a risk in renting. The owners of the building can sell and change things. My impression is that the owners were trying to get out of it, and no one will buy that building, spend lots of money to update it, and leave it as an SRO.
  11. Exactly. I'm conversative on many issues, and I'm very excited about the possibility of streetcars and light rail in the region. Passenger rail makes more sense to me than constantly expanding highways.

I first found this site when I was searching for information on condos in Downtown Cincinnati during the summer of 2005. It is great to hear so much information about urban projects and planning in general. Whenever bfwissel and I walk past the site for Queen City Square, we make sure to notice the curtainwall. That is something we never would have thought about without Urban Ohio. :)
  13. I didn't understand it either. I figured COAST would have been in favor of privatizing services as well.
  14. ^ That's all I was asking. I didn't know there was an increase in crime in Lawrenceburg. People tend to throw out the phrase "riffraff" to mean different things.
  15. I doubt it. They will more than likely see a decrease in business, but I doubt they'll close. They'll probably have to come up with more promotions to get people out there.
  16. I don't think that's going to be as big of a deal. Even if the city had decided it was going to try to sell the WW, a judge could have forced a public vote anyway. The bigger deal is that something from Smitherman and COAST won.
  17. ^ Those terrible people from Cincinnati who are spending money!
  18. What riffraff has the casinos brought in Indiana?
  19. How about doing that in the city of Mason instead? I was number 76 in my precinct at the Main Library, and I voted around and I voted around 12:45. I ran into John Schneider outside of the library on my way to work this morning.
  20. Wow, it would be great if the city could build the streetcar by December 31, 2009.
  21. I am still amazed that COAST and Smitherman have become BFFs. I have to laugh when Smitherman stresses how important it is that the people vote. Yes, Chris, voting is important. That's why the citizens voted years ago to remove you off council. I wish COAST remembered that.
  22. What a waste! That's interesting. There are several UDF locations in the area already. There is one at Glenmore and Montana, Glenway and Cleves-Warsaw, Queen City and Boudinot, and I think there is even a small one in the area by Waldenbooks, Kroger, etc, on Glenway.
  23. I thought the press release meant that the operators/owners of the casino will not develop a hotel themselves within 10 miles from the casino. I don't think it means no one could build a hotel, and I don't see how they could prevent someone else from building a hotel. Does anyone know for sure?
  24. Cole did have her name removed from the list of supporters for Cincinnatians for Progress.
