Panhandling/Scamming stories
One time a woman in downtown Cincinnati asked me for money to help cover her pizza. She said she had accidentally ordered the wrong size, and that she was short a little bit of money to pay for it. She said they would not give her the pizza. A few weeks ago, my husband and I were walking down Walnut St. A man stopped us and asked if we could give him money to help him get home. He claimed that he was from Columbus, and he came to Cincy the night before with his buddies. He ended up getting in a bar fight, was thrown in jail, and his friends went home and left him there. If we had believed him, we would have told him to find new friends. A few years ago, my husband and I were with another couple around 2:30 AM. A guy stopped us and said that his friends had stranded him, and he needed money for cab fare to get him. He said that he didn't have his wallet with him. We did not believe him. A few months later, we found out that this guy is a heroin addict from Hyde Park. This is one of several stories he uses.

Cincinnati: Harvest Home Fair 2008
I remember marching in the Harvest Home Parade when I was in Girl Scouts. That was fun. I don't think I've even been to the fair since high school, and I graduated 14 years ago. Wow...I suddenly feel old....

Cincinnati: Downtown: Renaissance Hotel (Bartlett Building Redevlopment)
I didn't realize how big this building is. It also houses CVS, Jimmy John's, and a frame shop. It appears to take up half a block on 4th Street. It will look really bad if this all goes dark.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Renaissance Hotel (Bartlett Building Redevlopment)
I noticed earlier in the week that Fresh was closed. There was a sign on the door saying that they were closed to develop new recipes. I wonder if the whole situation with the landlord is the main reason for the decision? http://www.local12.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=7eb2524e-fa01-465a-bfd6-68cce8eedf19 Bartlett Building Tenants Get Reprieve The tenants of the Bartlett Building were told that their utilities could be turned off because of unpaid bills.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Is the pre-leasing for the commercial spaces? I'm under the impression that the garages are to built no matter what.

^ I feel really bad for the tenants. What an awful situation.

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
Yes. The DRC is pretty good about talking to new businesses downtown and telling them about options. We have had business owners make an announcement at our meetings along with passing out menus and business cards. Downtown businesses can also send a blurb to the DRC for inclusion in their weekly E-News letter.

^ The owner is fully aware of the DRC.

Someone needs to contact the regional manager and report/complain. Potbelly will probably just say that they were opened during their posted hours.

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
I agree that no one from the suburbs will drive downtown just to eat at Potbelly. However, there are 4500+ people living in the CBD and more on the fringes. These are people they could advertise to. They should at least post a sign saying that they have extended hours. If people (downtown residents, people working late downtown, etc) know that they are open later, they are more likely to walk over to them. But now, people walk up to the place, see their posted hours, and assume that they close at 7. Potbelly is not the only downtown restaurant or retailer guilty of this. There are several businesses that will say "we are trying out Saturday or evening hours." They never post a sign stating this, so people just don't realize it. Then, the business will cut back hours again, and say "we tried extended hours, but they didn't work." Of course they didn't work because no one realized they were open later!

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
Over the summer, Potbelly supposedly expanded their hours (open until 9) on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. They never ever bother posting a sign stating this. Now, supposedly, they will try remaining open until 9 again on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays for three weeks after Labor Day. Again, they plan on posting no information about this, and I heard that they also do not plan on advertising this. They are just going to stay open as a trial run. Does anyone else get the impression that they do not want these extended hours to succeed? It seems to me that if you're trying extended hours, you would at least post a sign and do whatever you can to get the word out.

Reusable shopping bags handy, trendy
I'm not very impressed with the Acme bags. I have one, and it can't hold very heavy items, and it tore a week after I got it. I have an Envirosax Reusable Bag that I purchased at Park and Vine in Cincinnati. It's durable, and it folds up nicely. I carry it in my purse and use it a lot. It has a cool design on it as well. :) I also have various canvas bags along with a few other reusable bags from grocery stores. Most of these were gifts. I use these bags when shopping at Findlay Market or going to a grocery store.

Cincinnati's Backstage District
There was a big drug and prostitution bust at the Metropole about three years ago. I don't think there have been problems since, and the owners seem to have cleaned it up and put it extra security measures. I don't think there were any problems prior to the big drug bust.

You would suddenly have waterfront property, and be able to sell for a 300% profit! Hmmm....let the digging begin! ;)

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
I was talking to someone on the site the day they started wrecking the garage. He mentioned that an implosion would have been cool, but another point is Great American Ball Park. Image having to wipe dust off 40,000+ seats.

The Great Cincinnati Conservatism Thread
I also wonder if a lot of information was missing from the news reports as well. I seriously doubt someone would be arrested just for dancing too closely. There has to be more to the story.

While the lawsuit did bring about Tropicana's closure, Jeff Ruby said he would not fight it because he was just breaking even at that location.
