  1. It definitely does. Even though the city of Cincinnati had nothing to do with this, I'm sure that people are saying things like "Look how stupid this city is!" I hope KI handles this situation soon.
  2. The third floor of Macy's is still in use, and they still have the house wares, kids clothing, etc. They did decrease the amount of space, though, and are trying to lease that spot above Palomino. I think Macy's made a huge mistake by decreasing that space, though. Not only have they not been able to lease that space, but looking at that third floor from Fountain Square does make it look as if it's completely empty. Maybe they would improve that Macy's (increase selection, bring back juniors and the bridal registry) if something were built at 5th and Race.
  3. I would think West Chester does have a say in more routes. Do they or Butler county pay anything towards the existing ones, and are they willing to pay more to add more routes? KI definitely messed up in this situation. One of the messages I get out of this story is you don't own a car in West Chester (and many other areas), you're screwed. There are no other ways to get around. This particular set of workers may not have lived on UC's campus, but this program has been around for years. It sounds like in prior years participants lived on UC's campus or nearby.
  4. I've used Cincinnati Bell Wireless for the past nine years. I've had no problems, and I love that they don't have contracts. It's the number one reason why I stay with them. I had Verizon before that, and I hated them. They may be better now, though. They messed up my bill quite a bit, and their customer service was rude. And the worst part was I couldn't simply change companies because I was locked into the deal. Ugh. Or I would hate how they came out with a new promotional rate, but they would require me to sign on for an additional two years just to get it. Things probably have changed, but it turned me off to signing contracts beyond a year for anything.
  5. I think St. Xavier High School actually owns that lot, not the church.

This was pretty easy for me to answer. I went from suburb to city. I also stayed in the Cincinnati area my entire life as well. I grew up in Green Township and lived there for most of my life. Then I moved to Pleasant Ridge for a few years, and now I live in OTR. My husband lived in the same areas as well.
  7. I don't think licensing for panhandlers exists any more. Here is a summary of the panhandling ordinance in Cincinnati: http://www.ilivedowntown.com/panhandling.html Most people don't know about the rules for panhandling.
  8. Could be people drinking themselves into a coma or overdosing on drugs. It is frustrating to see this. Another frustrating thing is to watch people give a panhandler money. Several of these pandhandlers use this money to buy 40s, drink until they pass out, then an ambulance is called for them. I recently heard an EMT express frustration.
  9. I participated last year, and I had one photo published in the book. I'm not a professional, so I figured I would not make money anyways. It was just a neat way to upload pictures and see what happens. If I were professional, I would probably have no interest in submitting photos.
  10. I walked by that area today, and the bricks have been repaired. :)

  12. Those plans by 3CDC sound great! Those bricks in front of the Gibson Lofts (condo building between Phoenix Cafe and the old Uno) are/were in horrible condition. Looks like there have been a temporary fix put in at least. I wonder how closing off Gano Alley to cars will work out. The alley portion that goes from 6th to 7th streets does have garage entrances to some of the residential buildings in that area.

I agree with you. The same people who complain about feeling unsafe because of panhandling are the same ones who give them money! It does drive me nuts to see people hand someone money.

I think licensing is gone. However, aggressive panhandling is still illegal, which includes things such as threatening, following someone, or continuing to ask after being told no. There are also rules about times of day, and there are restrictions on where it can be done (for example, there is a distance from an ATM).
  15. I don't know anything about SpringHill Suites...are they bad?
  16. http://www.embracesweets.blogspot.com/ California is mentioned on the link above.
  17. ^ I have not heard anything about Boi Na Braza closing. I do know that they are no longer open for lunch, which kind of makes sense. I don't see many people wanting to eat that much or spend that much for lunch.
  18. I used to live in Pleasant Ridge. I owned a home there. It was a great neighborhood to live and I recommend it. The only reason we moved is because we decided to live downtown.
  19. There are some cool buildings at Central Pkwy and Walnut. :) I agree. There is not a ton of traffic between Elm and Sycamore, so losing a lane would not have created an issue.
  20. So then what happens after summer? People will be back to where they were before. And how will the routes be marked? Who will be responsible for the maintenance of these school buses? After Portune's plan to add rubber-wheeled trolleys to downtown last year as a way to disrupt the streetcar plan, I have to wonder if there is a hidden agenda to this. Or is he seriously just trying to come up with a creative solution? I also wish they had not mentioned the 2002 Metro Moves plan in this article. I hope people don't associate this plan with light rail, especially if this school bus plan fails.
  21. Yep, that's why I'm always amazed when people say they don't go downtown because of the traffic. A few years ago people asked when I would want to move downtown because then I would be near all the traffic.
  22. The Emery is literally old school! ;) It's a very cool building.
  23. There are several doctors (including my allergist) in that building. They do have a center for X-rays, blood work, and more.
  24. I think Mahatma will be better off in the Gateway Quarter.
