  1. We did drive away from the Montgomery Road streetscape and near Galbraith Rd. We circled around the entire mall. The only spots available were those in Kroger's parking lot, and we didn't want to risk having our car towed. Our experience was at Pottery Barn. The people at William Sonoma Home were a bit nicer.
  2. When I was trying to exchange a shower gift (at Dillard's), it was the same thing. I had on jeans and a rock band t-shirt. I hate stereotypes, but I seriously doubt a sales lady at the Western Hills Dillard's would have looked down at me while wearing the same outfit.
  3. Kenwood does have great shopping, but I have a hard time handling that traffic. Last time my husband and I tried going to Kenwood Mall (note I said "tried"), we circled the parking lot for 15 minutes without finding a place to park. We almost got into an accident, too. It's ridiculous that they keep building stuff up in the area without have the infrastructure to support it. I've also had some issues with employees at the mall looking down at me for whatever reason. Over a year ago, my husband and I were looking at furniture at a specific store in Kenwood Mall. We were pretty serious about it. We were checking out measurements and pricing, and this was obvious. We were completely ignored by the staff, so we decided not to bother with them. Another time, before I was married, I went to the Mall to exchange a duplicate item I had received as a shower gift. The sales lady was very snooty towards me. It was extremely annoying. I felt like telling her that I had a professional job and owned a home 10-15 minutes from the mall. Even if I didn't, there is still no reason to treat a potential customer like dirt. That said, I do go up there just for Trader Joe's. Even then, I will only go after 7:00 PM if it's not a Friday or Saturday. i used to go there for World Market, but now I only go the one in Western Hills.
  4. Yup...another reason to stay away from that area.
  5. I think if NOTL had been built in Cincinnati with exactly the same results, you would probably hear more about the vacancy rate for the retail portion. The Enquirer would probably be printing a time line displaying all of the restaurant closings there. People in general would probably claim that it's a failure.
  6. Thursday is June 5. Is this the correct date? Hey are yall going to come by? I hope we get to catch up tonight! We plan on attending tonight. :) We'll see you there.
  7. Thursday is June 5. Is this the correct date?
  8. As ridiculous as it sounds, that doesn't surprise me. I have a ten minute walk to work, and I do receive comments from people about how it must be nice to save so much money on gas and parking. I feel like saying that we chose this lifestyle, just like they chose theirs. We purposely decided that we could live in a smaller space if we meant we didn't need to drive as much.
  9. I just read the article about Western Bowl. How can the area be bad if the land itself is worth more than the bowling alley? And didn't the article mention that the average family income in the area is increasing? My brother bowls in several leagues throughout the year. He had given up on Western Bowl several years ago for league bowling, and another friend said that the Hoinke kids aren't running the place as well as it used to be run. One of my friends lives in the neighborhood behind Western Bowl. She had told me a rumor about section 8 several years ago. I was under the impression that her sources over this information aren't 100% accurate.
  10. I agree with Jimmy_James. I think the union is just mad that there are non-union janitors making a fair wage, none of which will be funding the union.
  11. They actually have more than what you see from the outside, and they are still stocking their shelves. They do carry fresh produce, cereal, dairy products, bread, pasta, canned goods, paper products, pop, ice cream, etc. The deli counter has fresh made salads. They owners are also very open to suggestions on what to carry as well.
  12. Some of my suburban friends are horrified that we sometimes go to the Vine St. Kroger. However, I think the store itself is fine. It has most of the basics. And for what it doesn't have, there are other stores nearby that cover it.
  13. I would like to see a chili parlor that is open late on weekends. There are three Skyline locations, but one is only open M-F until 6 PM, and the other two are only open until 8 during the week, until 4 on Saturdays, and closed on Sundays. I think the Skyline at 7th and Vine could do really well if they opened late on Fridays and Saturdays with all those bars and clubs nearby. I miss Uno Pizzeria. I would like to see that come back or a similiar place. Dewey's Pizza or something similar would be nice as well. I would like to see more stores that sell women's clothing. Right now the options are Macy's and TJ Maxx. I don't go to Sax Fifth Avenue because I can't justify spending a whole pre-tax paycheck on one dress. I would also like to see the current stores and restaurants expand their hours. That would take care of a lot.
  14. I hear that Ko-Sho on 9th Street has good sushi. I've never been there myself. Benihana has a sushi bar as well.
  15. So what about downtown residents? I agree that $19+ for a car wash is crazy.
  16. Cheaper and not as good. I don't think Friday's is cheaper than Rock Bottom. I always feel ripped-off when I go to a Friday's, which is never by my choice.
  17. It would be nice to have them open in the evenings. They are open on Saturdays from 9-5.
  18. When did Ben & Jerry's close? I am surprised it didn't last. Not surprised at all. I had Ben and Jerry's once in another city, and I thought it was overrated. If I remember correctly, it was much more expensive than Graeter's, and definitely more expensive than UDF.
  19. Mytho's at 4th and Walnut changed their hours again. Hubby and I walked down around 6:00 for dinner and they were closed. Looks like they are only open for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays now. :(

 That sounds like my brother's method. He says that he doesn't shop, he gets.
  21. Men and women definitely have different perspectives on safety. There are things that concern me that my husband doesn't even think about. The longer I live in the area, the more comfortable I feel. This is probably true anytime someone moves into a "new" neighborhood.

Where is the Brooks Bros Outlet store? Is it in Jeffersonville or Washington Court House?
  23. Wasn't there some sort of major bust recently at an adjacent store? I was hoping that would cut down on the loitering by Kroger.

Thanks for the suggestions, and keep them coming! That is correct. Companies tend to hide their IT folks, so no need to wear a suit. ;) He won't need to wear the suit very often. Dammit! I was going to say the same thing as soon as I read the title! :-) You probably love the name of this store. :)
  25. Cheryl has posted on this board before, and she wasn't the nicest. I remember her dishing out some personal attacks. However, people were taking the time to answer her questions, and I don't recall any of the forum members being rude to her. I've never met her in real life, so I can't speak for how she is as a person.
