True. I think every carrier has some issues.

Run My Life! (Cincinnati Telecommunication Version)
Do you have issues with dropped calls downtown? I saw a post on another thread from an iPhone user saying that he always has dropped calls in the Clifton area. Several members on my team at work have iPhones, and I've never heard them mention dropped calls. They really like their phones.

The townships are far from being perfect. I lived in one for 27 years, and I have no desire to move back to one.

Phones in Cincinnati
When we went on a tour of the maternity wing, we were told that we are allowed to use cell phones in labor and delivery rooms as well as the recovery rooms. After we went on the tour, my mom went to the same hospital for some radiation treatments. Her friend's phone did not work there (not sure what carrier), but her own phone from CBW did. Someone at the hospital told her that only CBW phones work there. It really makes no sense, especially since CBW rents from AT&T's towers. Finding this out for sure will make a different when we buy iPhones. Too bad the tour wasn't after my mom received radiation. Then I could have just asked then.

Phones in Cincinnati
My husband and I are in the same boat. We both have Blackberries with CBW, and we are talking about buying iPhones later this year. The price of the monthly service plan with AT&T vs. what we pay now is one reason why we haven't done this sooner. It's also been 10+ years since I've signed a contract for mobile phone service, so I do dread that part. We're waiting until the new phones are released. Even then, we might wait until after our baby is born. There is a rumor that only CBW phones work in the hospital where I'll deliver. It doesn't make any sense to me, so I'm trying to look into that further. Several of my coworkers have iPhones, and they seem very happy with them.

Cincinnati: State of Downtown
This is far from being a study, but I can say that the people living in my building seem to come from all over. We're right on the edge of downtown and OTR. Some have lived in Greater Cincinnati for a long time, and they moved here from Delhi, Mt. Airy, Clermont County, Hamilton, etc. My husband and I both spent most of our lives on the west side of town, then had moved to Pleasant Ridge for a few years before moving to our current home. Others have moved here from other cities such as Chicago, St. Louis, New York, Boston etc. A few more grew up in Cincinnati, moved to other areas, then moved here to their current home. I don't think there is one neighborhood in particular that is suddenly losing a lot of people because of the new residences in downtown and OTR. There also seems to be a wide variety of ages. Some have only been out of college for a few years, some are retired, and there are all ages in between. There are even a few families with small children.

Thanks, that is a good way to put things. I know women have many different experiences with BFing, and I like the attitude the instructor for our childbirth classes had on the issue. She covered all the benefits for mom and baby, but she acknowledged that sometimes BFing isn't possible. She was very open-minded on the whole issue. I read so many options about childbirth, whether it's epidural vs. no epidural, different methods, c-sections, etc. But, I agree, that the important thing is that you have a baby. It really doesn't matter how the baby was born.

^ That is a bummer she had to stop so soon, especially since there wasn't difficulty before she had to go on the antibiotic.

I talked to my allergist and got some disappointing news. One of the meds I take daily to control my asthma might not be safe to take while breastfeeding. There is not enough data out there, and no one knows what the long-term side effects could be. He acknowledged that some women probably have breastfed while taking it, but he does not feel comfortable telling someone that it's okay to do so. This med in general has not been proven safe for children under 2 in general. He did say that he could have me try a different med out. My inhalers seem to be fine, though. I'm leaning towards trying a different med out, and this would be a nasal spray instead of an pill. I'll admit that I'm nervous about this because my worst season is the fall, and that starts about six weeks after my due date. Who knows, the nasal spray might work out better. However, if I have trouble and need to go back on the original med, then it will be formula for the baby.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
^ I agree that he should have gotten prison time. However, this is like those car thieves that are constantly released as soon as they're arrested. When this happens, they just walk across the street and start breaking into more cars.

You might be giving the Enquirer too much credit. I don't think they ever print responses to their Letters to the Editor.

I'll have to post what my allergist says. He was pretty helpful when I told the nurses that I'm pregnant. They ran a bunch of medications by him that I had recently and was currently using (including OTC stuff), and one of the nurses called me rather quickly to let me know what to continue taking and which OTC meds to not take.

Thanks for the link! This does make me feel better. There are more meds on that list than I would have expected. Most of my meds are inhalers, so I don't think high levels of it get to my blood stream. I did mention something to the nurses last time I got my allergy shots, and they said that they had never heard of the asthma meds keeping someone from BFing. They did suggest that I talk to the doctor to make sure. My OB had said that any medications that are okay to take during pregnancy (which I'm taking now), are generally okay to take while BFing. Fortunately, the hospital where I will be delivering seems to be very supportive of breastfeeding. There is even a billboard compaign in Cincinnati that encourages BFing.

I think it's fantastic that you've kept it up this long, especially considering that you work full time and had to modify your diet because of the dairy allergies! I hope I'm able to do the same thing. Of course, I still need to talk to my allergist about it. I'm on a few prescriptions for asthma, and I want to see if there is any problem. My OB doesn't think it will be a problem, but I still want to talk to another doctor. :) I hope my allergist is in agreement because going off of these meds is not an option. I would be too sick to take care of an infant without them.

Wow, that's amazing and really sad. I can't believe they have an attitude like that about BFing, and I don't understand why people think it's gross. It's completely natural. Now, there are some good reasons why a mother would choose to formula feed their infants as well (mother has to take medication that could harm the baby, adopted infants, and others). It would be nice if everyone could respect the decisions the mothers make.

Lots of interesting information on breastfeeding in the "Off Topic" thread: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,439.msg482497.html#msg482497 Kudos to RockandRoller for keeping it up this long and planning to do it longer! This reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend over a year ago. She wasn't happy that she was still breastfeeding her toddler that was 18 months old. I told her that I didn't think it was a bad thing, and in some other countries, it's very common to do so beyond that age.

I did not say anything to the dentist, but I looking back, I probably should have. I had been going to this dentist for years before this hygienist started working there, so I did not take this as a reflection of his office. All other employees (including the dentist) are professional and very nice. The hygienist no longer works there. I do not know what happened to her.

I once had a dental hygienist tell me where and when her child was conceived. I can honestly say that I had not wondered or wanted to know. She also made a couple of comments there slightly racist as well (specifically it was okay to go to a certain place because it's all white people). I doubt the dentist would have appreciated his staff talking to patients like this. It is also awkward when someone is working in your mouth and you can't say anything back. I wonder what the point is of going to a foreign country (or even a region of the United States) and and not even try the food. I can't imagine travelling somewhere and only eating at places I can also enjoy at home.
