Trip Recommendations for Washington, DC
Thanks everyone for your help. So far, I have checked the hotels mentioned here. Unfortunately, everything is either booked for our dates, or it is $300 or more per night. :( I'm going to keep looking, though.

Cincinnati: Bockfest 2007 Saints & Sinners Tour Preview
Are we able to buy tickets in advance? I missed the tour last year. Does it sell out?

Cincinnati Enquirer
The Cincinnati Enquirer merely thinks of themselves as a business rather than a news source. They don't necessarily print the news; they print what they think the subscribers want. Here is an example: Earlier today, I went to the XU women's basketball game. I was sitting in the front row behind the press table. Two reporters from the Enquirer were seated behind me. Now I know there are a lot of UC fans here, but bear with me. A man behind me mentioned how Xavier finally got on the front page of the sports section with the win against Dayton yesterday. He told the guys from the Enquirer that he was happy with this. He also mentioned that sometimes XU will have a huge win on the same night that UC may have lost a game, but UC will still get the bigger headline. The guy from the Enquirer said that it does not matter what UC does in sports. They will always have the bigger headlines even if they would go a season without winning any games. This is because they are a business, and they publish what they think people want to read. I know this was regarding sports team, but this philosophy is apparent throughout their newspaper. The Enquirer as a source for news does not seem to be important to them. Their first priority is as a business publishing what they feel their subscribers want. I know many people have suspected this, but I was still a little shocked to hear one of their employees actually say this.

Trip Recommendations for Washington, DC
I am a big fan of Thai, Indian, and Italian food. I do remember being Dupont Circle nine years ago, and I would like to go back, especially if they have art galleries. I also remember eating at a neat little restaurant in Adam's Morgan. Is that still an area that is worth checking out? I looked at the taxi fares. It looks really confusing with too many variables involved!

Trip Recommendations for Washington, DC
Thanks for the suggestions so far. We are going in mid-May. We are looking for something not too expensive. We do plan on checking out some of the museums, and we are open to suggestions for restaurants and bars. We got AAA rates for Amtrak. THe cost for both of us is $212.

Trip Recommendations for Washington, DC
In a few months, my husband and I will be taking a short trip to DC. :) We decided to give Amtrak a try, and we have booked our trip. Neither of us have riden Amtrak before, so we're looking forward to that. It's been nine years since I've been in DC, and this will be my husband's first trip. I'm looking for recommendations for a hotel there. Because we won't have a car, we need a place with easy access to the Metro.

Cincinnati: Retail News
Early on, I think they did have a vendor selling organic produce (Madison's).

Can you elaborate? I'm not a big tv watcher, but if I'd known this, I would've had it for the last 5 years. We used to have this. It's called LifeLine. We got it because our TV reception was very bad, and my husband wanted to be able to watch Simpsons clearly every week. :) You basically get the local channels, History Channel, community access, Weather Channel and a few others. It's been over year since we've had it, so I can't remember everything with it. However, you do not get any music video channels, sports channels, comedy central, etc.

Cincinnati: Urban Grocery Stores
Their prices are very good. Most of their products tend to be their own label, so it's cheaper. They also offer organics (scientists, I do realize why this is a bad term). ;)

Cincinnati: Most Diverse Place in the City
This is a great summary. Also, the bartenders are great. The owner is cool. You only have to go once or twice, and he remembers you forever. They also have some good beers on tap, including Blue Moon and Barrelhouse.

Cincinnati: Urban Grocery Stores
I saw you and your husband there yesterday and sort of yelled "xumelanie" while I was eating and reading my paper but I don't think you guys heard me. Bummer, I didn't hear you. :( Sorry about that. I am very impressed by what I can find at Findlay Market. It is more than I was expecting. I definitely agree with this statement. I really hope the trolley comes soon. But there is another reason why I don't walk there - I end up buying a lot of stuff whenever I go! There's no way I could make the walk carrying everything. And when my husband goes with me (which is most of the time), that means we can buy even more! Hence, we definitely can't walk, and we barely make it back to the car. ;)

Mr. Pitiful's is also on mine. I thought of it when I saw the headline before I even opened this thread! We brought one of our suburban friends to Mr. Pitiful's a few weeks ago. He even commented that he was impressed by the diversity.

I agree with you. Findlay Market is fantastic (was there yesterday), and you can find everything you need at the other stores you've mention. I really don't understand the hang-up people have over the grocery store issue. When I stock up on canned goods or buy a lot of things in bulk, I drive to nearby grocery store, which is exactly what I did when I lived in the suburbs. That said, I would be thrilled if Trader Joe's opened a location downtown. I'm getting a list ready to drive there tonight, and it would be nice to not have to go to Kenwood. Behind Findlay Market, they are my 2nd favorite place to buy food. If Trader Joe's wouldn't work out, my next choice would be for Fresh Market. Ideally, though, that streetcar going to Findlay Market would be great. :)

Corryville - Trapped Under Ice
That's amazing....it sounds like it's a pain to just get to his car! Before I moved downtown, I had a monthly parking spot in a garage. Of course, I gave it up when I moved five blocks from where I work. You'd be amazed by how many people ask me if I still have that pass and if I drive to work. Umm, why would I pay for a monthly pass when I'm walking? By the time I got into my car and drove it out of the garage in my residential building, I would be halfway to work from walking! NOt to mention time looking for a parking space.

City Cellars is good. They also have a nice selection of beer. They are very good about helping you select a bottle of wine, too. You just tell them what you like and your price range, and they will give recommendations. They also have wine tastings on Tuesdays.

That's a bummer. :( Did this just happen in the past week? I went to Findley last weekend, and I thought for sure they were still open.

I think Longworth's in Mt. Adams has a dance floor on the second floor. I think McFadden's does have a dance floor after 10 on Fridays and Saturdays.

Cincinnati: Fifth Third Bank
Back in college, I knew a few people who worked at 5/3 part time. They always called it either the fraction or the improper fraction. One day, one of these guys got on the elavator with some other people, and he mentioned, "Does it bother anyone else that our logo is an improper fraction?" People weren't too amused by this comment!
