  1. There have been a few surprises when rehabbing the building. Some areas needed more support than they had originally realized. Some of this happened when cutting the holes for the new atriums. Also, part of the building has two basements. This was not originally designed to be a parking garage, so extra supports had to go there.
  2. ^ I went to the sales office today, too.
  3. I think you should go. That way I won't be the only female at the meet. ;)
  4. Beautiful!

Interesting....I see nothing peaceful about driving 90 minutes to work!

yes, there is an Italian restaurant within walking distance. There are also a few bars (Norwood Cafe aka The Woods, Dana Gardens, and a few others I can't think of right now.) within walking distance. I walked to The Woods every week when I was a senior. ;) There is also a bowling alley in walking distance. That giant surface lot at the bottom of the picture was not there when I was a student. I always thought they should have built a parking garage instead of all the lots. They do have a need for a lot of parking because there are a lot of commuters. Most of the grad students alone are commuters. They sometimes tear down buildings because it is cheaper to do so and build new. That was the case of the student center on campus. They still have several old buildings on campus that they chose to renovate instead of tearing down. Xavier is cool!
  7. I think the people were offered quite a bit for those houses. However, I don't like the way the whole thing was handled. Were those houses really in that bad of shape? I know one of their "flaws" was having a small yard, but I don't think that's a bad thing. Not everyone wants a huge yard. I don't like the idea of the government making people sell their land just so someone can build more shopping. That said, I do go to Rookwood sometimes. It's an okay place to shop, but most of their restaurants are just average.
  8. I talked to someone with the McAlpin today, and she said that the fire was small. It was contained in the sub-basement. I'm not sure what caused the fire, but the damage was minimal. No one was hurt.
  9. I just checked out the nutritional information on Moe's website. I wouldn't say that it's much healthier. My typical meal at Chipotle has fewer calories that a lot of the meals at Moe's.

that is funny - I did read the title correctly!
  11. You don't have to buy organic food or shop at Wild Oats to eat healthy. I eat pretty healthy, and my grocery bill has gone down because I don't buy tons of junk food and heavily-processed foods. I also eat out less, which also saves money. Buying produce that is in-season and/or locally grown also makes it affordable.
  12. There is a Foucault's Pendulum on Xavier University's campus. It's inside the physics building.
  13. Great pics! Makes me want to visit the zoo very soon.
  14. ^ There is also a large ballroom inside. My high school had some of their dances there. My company also holds their Christmas party there - using both the theatre and the ballroom - so I've been in it several times.
  15. ^Several decades ago, everything was built downtown. This is probably why the old concert halls were built down town. It would be a shame if the CSO left Over-the-Rhine for a bland structure North or East of the city. Music Hall is part of the reason why I like going to such events. I went to The White Stripes concert at Music Hall last year. I was very surprised when I heard they were performing there. Then I read an article in the paper about the concert. It said that their agent tried to book them at Riverbend. However, Jack White saw pictures of Music Hall. He insisted on having a show there instead. Although I think Jack White can be freaky, he obviously has great taste in venues!
  16. That billboard cracks me up! As if Newport is some sort of tropical area.
  17. When someone says Miami University, I always assume they mean Ohio. When I hear University of Miami, I assume Florida.
  18. The entrances on the corner of 6th and Walnut along with the entrance in the middle of the block on 6th Street have been closed because of the construction. It is my understanding that the the entrance on the corner is permanantly closed and is being converted to retail space. When the entrance at the middle of the block reopens, it will have escalotors and elevators going up to the Skywalk level. I think this will be the main entrance. The entrance on 515 Main is still open along with the Skywalk entrance on Walnut. Part of the outside of the building will be demolished soon. We received a memo about this at work. I'll look at the detail again tomorrow and post. They had a big unveiling last month for the building tenants. I didn't get to see it because it occurred on a day I had taken vacation.
  19. I would hate to see how bad traffic would be in that area with a Bloomingdales in Kenwood. It's already terrible. I avoid that area as much as possible now.
  20. When they first opened, I thought the Levee had a curfew. Is that no longer the case?

I do make pizza at home sometimes. I use Trader Joe's pizza sauce, and it's delicious. Trader Joe's also makes great pizza crust. However, I usually make pita pizzas using whole wheat pita bread. I also like to play with toppings.
