Cincinnati: Bockfest 2010
There are typically canned sodas and bottled water Good. In previous years I had no interest in the bottled water and soda. ;) It will be a little strange to not be trying the Bock this year, but there's always next year.

Cincinnati: Wasteful spending at City Hall
Don't forget mounted patrols. I would say that is a PR thing as well.

Cincinnati: Bockfest 2010
I plan on going to the parade. :) I wonder if Bockfest Hall will offer any non-alcholic beverages. In previous years I didn't bother checking.

UrbanOhio Parents & Families
I don't think this thread should be limited to only those living in the big cities. I personally enjoy hearing the stories of their kids in urban areas, whether or not they live there or just enjoy visiting. Most people posting on this site have one thing in common - liking urban areas. I've already done some lurking on a Cincinnati Moms website, and I have a feeling I may not have a lot of common with many of the forumers there. :( Many of them consider central Cincinnati to be the area around Kenwood Mall, and I've seen screen names such as "MiniVanMom" or "MasonSoccerMom." I'm curious to see what the reaction will be when I say that I actually live downtown, and I don't plan on moving when the baby arrives!

Our "urban baby" will be arriving this summer. I can't wait to hear from others that have babies and small children in the urban core.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
There are things that can be done when residents live above a bar, such as adjusting speakers, not blaring music outside at 3 AM, etc. Many establishments are willing to work with nearby residents. I would even say that most downtown residents understand there will be noise. However, I think it's reasonable to ask that loud music is not blared around the clock.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
^ It makes me think of the movie "Traffic."

Cincinnati: Services
^ Our building does pay for trash pick-up and recycling. Our condo association has an item budgeted for that.

^I've never been in the YMCA either, but I've heard it's nice. There is also the YWCA at 8th and Walnut. That fitness center is still pretty new, and a few people in my building go there. Both offer fitness classes. Some Jazzercise classes are also offered at one of the churches facing Washington Park, but I know that this isn't something that guys really get into.

Cincinnati: Services
The non-emergency Police Number in Cincinnati is 765-1212. I do like the idea of having a number such as 311 set up. It's much easier to remember.

Pet Peeves!
What's really annoying me now is the "wall spam" on Facebook. It seemed that in the past, most requests from apps just came in privately, and you had the option to accept or ignore. Now these requests are appearing on the walls all the time. I spent some time yesterday removing junk from my wall that said stuff like "So and so wants to send you a Valentine!"

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
As a downtown resident, I don't really see why a downtown Target would really be needed. I can't imagine walking to Target and doing my errands. I don't go to one very often (maybe every other month), but I am happy to have my car when I do go. I can't imagine walking back home while carrying my giant container of laundry detergent and multi-pack of tissues.

Cincinnati: Recycling News & Info
^ Doesn't the city pay for recycling? The exception is multi-dwelling residences over a certain size.

Eatin' good in the OTR 'hood
It was on Liberty Street, near Race I believe. The building is now some wireless phone store.

Pro Over-the-Rhine Stickers
Urban Eden on Main Street sold the stickers for a long time. I'm not sure if they still have them or not, but it's worth a try.

Very well written! Thank you for sharing that.

Pet Peeves!
When I read the first line of this, I thought you meant that people should just sit on the down escalator. Then I understood by the time I got to the end. I do like the video of people being stuck on the escalator. :)

LOL! I do remember when that first opened, and I actually went there quite a bit as a kid during the day (usually with an adult, older brother, or a group of friends while our moms were bowling). When I was in high school, I believe the place had gone down hill. I don't think many of my friends were even allowed to go there. One of my friends in particular had a parent that was an ER nurse at St. Francis/St. George Hospital. There were too many stories of teens ending in the ER after a visit to Doc Hollidays.

No, there isn't, that's why kids get into so much trouble. I agree that even in other areas there isn't much for teenagers to do, especially if you are not athletic in any way. I grew up in Green Township, and I remember being bored, especially when school was not in session. Also, it seems acceptable for teenagers to be bored. That is really cool that you started an activity like that in high school. It's a bummer that the group disbanded so quickly.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
An Apple store would be good.
