U.S. House OH-11
Special Election 2021 OH-11 was formerly represented by Marcia Fudge who has accepted a cabinet position (HUD Secretary)under the Biden administration. Fudge held that position since 2008. She won easily over the years in the solidly Democratic district, that is greatly gerrymandered from Lake Erie to the Akron-Canton Airport. A special election will be held to elect her replacement. The Primary will be held on August 3, 2021 and the General Election on November 2, 2021. Candidate filing applications are due by May 5, 2021

Cleveland: Ohio City: INTRO (Market Square / Harbor Bay Development)
ASCE-Cleveland and CMAA-Ohio are co-sponsoring a free presentation on the INTRO project. I have helped organize it and this thread was the primary inspiration, so thank you to all who contributed. https://cmaaohio.org/meetinginfo.php?id=10&ts=1600884307

Canal Basin Park and Lake Link Trail
By this logic, we shouldn't install guardrails. Good design is good design, It doesn't encourage speeding though a shared path. on these paved paths, runoff flows across these curves from high to low, if that coincides with a super in the wrong direction an unsuspecting cyclist can find themselves on the pavement instantly. These are as you wrote, "shared paths", meant to be safe for all users. I see I struck a nerve, because you may have worked on this project. No offense intended. I'm just a cyclist who loves the towpath and one who follows the rules and teaches my kid to do the same. If I'm remembering correctly, I'm specifically talking about this downhill curve shown on the attached picture. The path slopes to the outside of the radius.

Canal Basin Park and Lake Link Trail
These pictures remind me of one of my biggest complaints for bike path design. Here are a couple, admittedly minor, examples of the path "super-elevated" the wrong way. For those of you who have never heard the term "super-elevated", think of the berm on a NASCAR track. If you were flying around these curves the paving does not counter the centifugal force of the curve, in fact, it encourages the force off of the path. In some places on the Towpath, this can get very sketchy when the pavement is wet. Most bike path designs that I've seen don't include super-elevation tables for the bike path, therefore leaving the fine grading up to the contractor or inspector. Hoping there are some designers out there who read this and have an " Ah hah!" moment.

Lorain County: Development and News
sabotage619 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Northeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionA huge secret project brewing in Lorain county. I don't have any scoop, but with the level of secrecy and NDAs sounds like an Amazon. Pure speculation though.

Coronavirus Effects on Ohio Construction & Development
Slightly off topic of Construction and Development, but I have been told that waste water treatment plant (WWTP) staff have implemented already in some cities or are considering shifts staying at the plants for 2 weeks, sleeping in trailers. When their 2 weeks are up the next crew comes in. There are limited staff qualified to operate WWTP, so if COVID were to infect a shift it would (hopefully) be contained.

Coronavirus Effects on Ohio Construction & Development
How about city inspection staff? What are you guys hearing about the local municipalities? I've heard Cuyahoga County is letting inspection staff take trucks home and use their discretion if they would like to work, and that inspection could be contracted out. ODOT is full steam ahead, like Enginerd stated. I would assume building inspections could stall projects. I think most suppliers are primed and ready to go still. I've heard of a few companies issuing cards that have been approved by Homeland Security that employees are being asked to carry that state they are "Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers".

Coronavirus Effects on Ohio Construction & Development
https://neo-trans.blogspot.com/2020/03/construction-cleveland-and-coronavirus.html Another great article Ken. I thought this was important enough to start its own thread. I am a civil engineer in Cleveland working in sales. I work with engineers, contractors, GCs and local and state government day to day. The company I work for had a record year last year and things are still very busy today as we have transitioned to working from home. I'm curious what other on this forum are experiencing. Please share what you see and hear around you about construction and development around the state.

Cleveland: Historic Preservation
It really is a masterpiece. I think it gets overlooked because it is off the beaten path and the glass mosaics on the side walls don't let light in behind them, so the detail can be hard to see without a flashlight. I try to take all out of town guests here when I'm trying to show them how nice Cleveland is.
