Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
One of the mechanicals was discovered to be broken during the start up process, so that was a bit of a setback. Should start safety tests on Thursday, so best case scenario would be opening early next week. That’s assuming nothing else is discovered to be broken during that process though.

I thought the same thing. How are you, an auditor, just going to make that presumption? That’s kind of a ridiculous thing to say

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
In order to open it to traffic the balance of the bridge has to measured to ensure its safe operation. Because many of its systems have been disengaged, taken apart or replaced, the entire system process needs to be run without issue multiple times (e.g. the traffic light turns red, then the gates go down, then the jacks disengage, then the bridge moves and stops in the correct location, etc). Because of all of this, there are a lot of areas where something could potentially go wrong and push the opening date back, although this time only slightly. I wouldn’t be surprised if the bridge ended up opening the following week (of the 11th).

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
The hope is to be open to traffic by the end of next week. There are a lot of moving parts (pun intended) and reasons why providing a firm date for opening the bridge is difficult. I can try in explain in more detail if you’d like. After opening to traffic, there will still be intermittent stoppages in order to complete the work. The official responses are definitely overly kind to the contractor who’s fault this is almost completely.

Cleveland Parking Discussion
They need to get rid of the police restrictions on Huron/Prospect but also get rid of the free parking after 6pm. Charge the correct amount to induce turnover in this area and voila. It shouldn’t be that difficult, especially if we’re going to app based payment. Hopefully they can figure out how May spaces are open, etc to hone in pricing.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
From W 65th on, yes. I was referring to the midway projects. I suppose I should’ve been more specific as anything restriping the lanes could be considered a road diet. I think this has to do as much with the quality of the bike infrastructure as anything else. I live in Ohio City, so I know it best. Detroit has the most bikers, but the road is riddled with potholes. Both Lorain and Detroit (and basically every other thru street) are simple painted lines and it doesn’t feel safe to be out there. I think the City is implementing more bike lanes due to popular demand, but casual riders do not feel comfortable using them in the current environment. I’d love to hear other opinions though.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
It would be great, and I hope they can figure out a way to speed along reconstruction of our roadways to try and match developers timelines. But the City does not have much money to commit to roadway projects; they’ve been trying to cobble together funding for Superior and Lorain for going on 7 years now.

Canal Basin Park and Lake Link Trail
The hope is that it’s open by Labor Day, that’s what everyone is aiming for. The entire bridge is being blasted and repainted right now which is quite a bit of work. I can get into the details of everything that’s happened at some point, but the really really short version is that movable bridges are very finicky to work on, especially ones that are 120 years old.

I wonder if this will hold progress up or if they’ll move on without the County https://www.ideastream.org/government-politics/2023-07-18/north-coast-community-development-corporation-plan-stalls-in-cuyahoga-county-council

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
The answer is simple yet difficult to solve; the city doesn’t have enough money. Raise police wages and then what do you cut? I’m not saying they should or shouldn’t do it, but that’s the reality in a city that already struggles to provide services.

Municipalities are responsible for maintaining US and State Routes within their borders. ODOT put together a nifty matrix you can see here: https://www.transportation.ohio.gov/programs/maintenance-operations/rimr/rimr-matrices#RoadwayMaintenanceResponsibilities There is another for bridges if anyone is interested lol.

Cleveland Orchestra News & Info
The concert was amazing, and the trumpet journey the new piece takes you in is very enjoyable. The crowd seemed like a lot of newbies, which is good, but some even started applauding in the middle of one of Dvorak’s movements 😩

McCormack is supposed to present about it at the Franklin-Clinton block club meeting on April 27th. ”The program of the new development will include a 63 Unit Hotel, 6 Concierge Apartment Units, 2 street fronting retail units, a new restaurant, and a rooftop bar.” The block club sent out a 32 page presentation with renderings, which is where I’d assume @RMB got the screenshots from.

Cleveland-Akron: Bicycling Developments and News
I know work on this one continues. I will try and find out more but I believe the section connecting SVDC and Morgana Run trail is a part of upcoming ODOT & NEORSD projects. My understanding is there is a lot of planning behind the scenes, but the city isn’t helping much because of personnel turnover. Ultimately they need to coordinate all of the agencies building these trails for them but there is no one currently in that role.
