Cleveland: Ohio City: INTRO (Market Square / Harbor Bay Development)
Someone with more commercial experience may correct me, but in my industry (heavy highway) the operators typically come with the crane. Edit: I see it’s from ALL Crane so it would be their operator. ALL is a nationwide outfit but is HQ’d here. The crane itself could have come from wherever they had one available though

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
Let me google that for you: According to Consumer Expenditures in 2019 by the U.S. Department of Labor's U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average vehicle costs $9,576 per year to own and operate. The breakdown of the figure comes to $4,054 for purchasing the vehicle, $1,968 in gasoline and motor oil expenses, and $3,554 in other vehicle-related costs. In its 2018 Your Driving Costs survey, it summarizes the cost of gasoline, maintenance, insurance, license and registration, loan finance charges, and depreciation costs for a variety of vehicles. According to AAA, the average person spends $8,849 per year for the privilege of driving. The numbers also don't include the cost of parking.

I think ODOT would be receptive to bridge caps through the corridor if and only if Campus District or CSU agreed to take on maintenance responsibility. And a once in a generation opportunity is coming up to change the status quo, so I hope someone is pushing for this.

Photos like this (which I saw on Twitter Saturday) really show how much progress has been made

I believe they got $2.5 million from the state in the recent capital reappropriations bill. Not sure if that’s new or just maintaining what was already granted though.

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
As far as I’m aware, within the interstate right-of-way (including ramps) ODOT is responsible for maintenance. For some of the fancier ramps with flowers and such, I believe they enter into an agreement with the city to maintain. Other than that, inside city limits the city itself is responsible in its ROW. And the are notoriously bad at maintaining anything.

They’ve got quite a bit of the below grade work done. I live about 3 houses down so I’m paying attention closely ?

Heading EB the speed limit goes from 35 to 50 past the ramp merge. @GISguy is correct though, people drive whatever they want. Could you put a traffic signal in? Maybe. There are different things required by law for a signal to be warranted. Remember though, the entire reason the shoreway is the way it is is because “people” didn’t wan’t the proposed signals on this stretch. I believe it would be legal to put a stop sign at the top of the ramp though, which might be more politically tolerable. I’ll need to do a little research...

Phew, I was concerned no one was gonna bring up butthole-gate.

There really is no room to rework. There are three option: - drop a through lane coming in - close the ramp - keep it the way it is They tried going the closing route and the neighborhood threw a FIT. So I don’t see anything changing. Also, I can’t predict how long the bridge will last, but I’m confident in saying it’s safe right now. It was built in 1938, and last (majorly) rehab’ed in 1992. I’m sure they will try and maintain the superstructure as much as possibly because frankly I can’t fathom money going into a replacement. But then again other people decide that.

@Boomerang_Brian @E Rocc Unfortunately realigning 90 like shown above is not being considered right now. That’s not saying it can’t be, but it would take pressure from stakeholders (City of Cleveland, NOACA) for it to happen. You can find the current plan for innerbelt rehabiliation at innerbelt.org.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
It never made sense to have the “curfew” be during the daytime to begin with, so I agree with you there. But even if they do think it’s the nebulous “antifa” (which by the way I think is a load of malarkey) show me the evidence. So far I haven’t seen one iota to give credence to that theory. The citizens have the right to know.

The communication surrounding this could not possibly be worse. Are there specific threats?? Then tell us. Otherwise this is truly ridiculous.

Cleveland: Surviving 2020 (COVID / Riots)
Yeah...Ohio tax law is exceptionally complicated. Here’s a flow chart to figure out where you owe. Pretty much depends on how many days you work in a certain city (greater or less than 20 per year)....but it’s obviously not that simple. source: https://www.ohioauditor.gov/trainings/lgoc/2018/Municipal Income Tax.pdf

Looks like they’re turning Bounce into a coworking space. I’ll miss drag queens being on that corner ? Oh nostalgia. I have to admit the rooftop restaurant and patio concept is nice though...

Downtown Cleveland after Covid-19
My prediction in the long term is that companies will end up giving their employees more flexibility to work from home, but by and large it won’t move to telework. I’ve seen articles about employee surveys stating they miss going into the office, seeing coworkers and friends, etc. I think long term it would be detrimental to moral to abolish the office for good.
