  1. “...with replacement windows used on the annex (added to the mansion in 1914). Repairs to the annex also include a new roof and the addition of exterior lighting.” Yeah i’m not sure if this is the other house or the back part of the existing mansion?
  2. ^ from block club notes: Sam Messina, Rustbelt Development, owner. Chris Forchion and Nick Muhvic, LDA Architects. First presentation. Historic Renovation of the vacant Rhodes Mansion. Converting the previous county archive building into 33 apartment units. The exterior of the building will remain similar to its existing appearance to meet all historic requirements. The 1874 building restoration will include repairs to the building brackets, restoration of the original windows on the mansion with replacement windows used on the annex (added to the mansion in 1914). Repairs to the annex also include a new roof and the addition of exterior lighting. The mansion will be repainted in a historic red with white trim color scheme; the existing railings will be retained. The interior renovation of the mansion will retain the original openings and fireplaces in the building, repair the plaster ceilings and refinish the original floors. There will be 33 market rate apartments (26 will be one bedroom and 7 units will be two bedrooms) with a leasing office in a front unit of the mansion. The attic space will be an apartment and a roof top patio is to be added - but will not be visible from the street. The curb cut on Franklin Blvd will be widened, the existing parking lot on Franklin will be retained and a rear parking lot will be added for a total of 34 parking spaces on site. Two mature trees will be removed to add the rear parking lot. The existing green space with two mature trees on the site located between the two parking lots will be retained. Planting beds will be added to the front of the mansion using a Victorian design and plant species. Work should begin by the end of this summer. The BC attendees were assure that all building materials will be kept on the building property. LDA was not able to confirm that the green space would not be built out in the future. No zoning variances are needed for this proposal; a vote of Block Club support will be taken at the April meeting for Landmarks.
  3. A good (relatively short) podcast about dollar stores, and how Dollar Tree and Dollar General have decided to go in different strategic directions.
  4. SAME. There is a lot of “Q” branding they’re going to need to change. Didn’t they already start putting up QUICK on the building lol? Also I find it odd that all of our elected leaders will be there for what sounds like a team/business decision. I find the whole thing odd ??‍♂️
  5. If only there were something simple they could do to reverse the healthline numbers from declining...
  6. Also does that mean buh bye e-check? ??
  7. NIMBYs strike again! https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/e-team/development-is-bringing-a-new-feel-into-the-little-italy-neighborhood-that-prides-itself-on-nostalgic-authenticity
  8. It seems silly of them to cancel it now after reaffirming the route would return at 4 days-per-week...especially after consolidating with WOW (aka no direct competition). But then again maybe they didn’t like their ticket sale numbers?
  9. Does this mean they are accelerating their plans for replacement cars? Or should I read nothing into this.
  10. Kinda hard when there’s like 4 people left working there.
  11. Newspapers are having a tough time across the country trying to figure out how to operate in this new economy, with ad revanues drastically changing. What I cannot understand for the life of me, is what “Advance Ohio’s” business model is. It’s makes no sense whatsoever. To begin, the only reason that makes sense for spinning-off Cleveland.com into a separate company is to avoid having unionized employees. Why else would you want to purposefully duplicate operations like that. And I totally agree with FleetotheCleve; I have a hard time believing not having a paywall for Cleveland.com generates more revanue over the long-run. All of this is only going to harm the community (it’s already hard enough to find out what’s going on in Cleveland City Hall, let alone the suburbs). And just so one of the richest families in the country can squeeze out a few more dollars. ? https://www.politico.com/magazine/amp/story/2018/05/13/denver-post-profits-newspaper-industry-218360
  12. All I can think about when I see those windows is the Ministry of Magic...
  13. ODOT will also be working on the east side of the Lorain-Carnegie bridge this summer, so travel to the near west side will be a joy!
  14. ODOT will be overlaying the entire deck of the bridge along with some other miscellaneous work (including rebuilding the Center Street operators building and a lot of substructure work in the lower level tunnels).
  15. Oh, sorry lol I wasn’t sure what you were getting at. One of my immediate family members works at one of the dealerships. He sold it to a gentleman from Canada, with the deal closing the end of this month.
  16. Bernie is the one spearheading the whole Blockland thing. https://www.npr.org/2018/11/23/664364583/from-believeland-to-blockland-cleveland-aims-to-be-a-tech-hub
  17. I’m not sure what this necessarily means, but Bernie Moreno has sold off all of his car dealerships to focus on his tech plans.
  18. I was just talking about walking from the station to Scranton peninsula. Shoulda clarified, my b!
  19. Looks like it’s about a ten minute walk from the Rapid station if you walk down Columbus. Walking up that hill might not be the most pleasant trek though.

And the ODOT Director is complaining about the House-passed transit funds ?
  21. You can get HBO and Showtime standalone for 14.99 and 10.99 respectively. Both of those allow you to live stream shows in real time. I believe it’s the same price now matter how you go about...Roku, Prime, etc. If you still want other channels and live TV, another option is Hulu Live. I’ve heard really good things about it from friends & neighbors. $44.99 a month for 60ish channels, and the above can be added at the prices listed.
  22. I guess we’ll see what happens. I’m not sure it would be actual consolation into one court, but I’m glad someone is talking about it. And I hope the talks get more serious because this should be brought up while the justice center questions are swirling around.
  23. What I was getting at is, Cleveland is the only court using risk based bail, and it’s also the only court staffed by the public defenders office. Also that felony cases have their first appearance at these different municipal courts, which streamlining could be addressed by this effort as well.
