  1. I’m not sure what I have mentioned that would be different under individual judges, they are all structural issues that having separate courts causes.   2. What? Who says that? And the problem with having multiple municipal courts isn’t the judges themselves. It’s having multiple cost structures, booking systems, bail procedures, availability of public defenders, etc. Sound of Ideas had a great program on this with Judge Russo & Matia of Common Pleas and Shakers Municipal judge.
  3. I agree with you. I’m not sure who exactly is supposed to be using this bridge. Maybe once more pace development happens on the other side by the science center? I don’t know.

  5. The bid price was $12.2 million, which was 40% over the estimate. There were also only two bidders...so there is a chance it could be pulled but I would be surprised.
  6. The North Coast Harbor Pedestrian Bridge was sold yesterday. Slated to be opened in the fall of 2020.

    Or when you update your registration. Oregon though has been trying out a plug-in similar to what the auto insurance companies have been using.

    With the electronics in vehicles now-a-days is it really that easy to manipulate the odometer? The gas tax isn’t sustainable even if it is indexed. A tax based on miles driven and class of vehicle has to be the way to go if you want it to be an actual “user fee.” There are pilot programs on the west coast (the other ODOT, Oregon) utilizing this method, and it sounds promising.
  10. Yep and yep. The recommendations were adding curb extensions and “traffic circles” along Franklin. FWIW, I emailed McCormack and Zone about lowering the speed limit (which I believe is legal even though they keep saying it isn’t). He said he would forward it to Council lawyers, but that was months ago.
  11. The article says MetroHealth will relocate “some clinical services” so it’s kind of unclear.     The way they should be cutting costs is to avoid expensive & pointless projects that increase maintenance costs, not reducing workers pay. Any project with federal-money is required to pay prevailing wage anyway, which is the majority that ODOT sells.

    What you’re saying is true, yes. And I’m not arguing against the gas tax increase, as new revenue is sorely needed. I’m just saying funding priorities need to be scrutinized. When our existing infrastructure is in such poor condition, why are we spending a billion dollars for the 16 mile Portsmouth bypass, or the unnecessary 3rd valley view bridge, or multiple new lanes of 271...plus all of the noise walls that come with it? And that’s not even touching transit.

    They did, at least internally. At the time they acknowledged that with the current funding and current cost of maintenance, in the near future all funding would have to be directed to maintenance just to keep up. Unfortunately, I don’t think an overall change in vision occurred...it was moreso just facing reality. I get the sense now that with additional funding it’s back to the old ways. This makes no sense of course. Not only is it a waste of money, it keeps exacerbating the overall maintenance costs. I’m really hoping with this new tax requests, the legislators put more scrutiny on ODOTs funding priorities.

    Not to mention they are planning to devote $250 million/year to “Major New” projects aka capacity aka road widening.
  17. LAND isn’t the reason there are unsightly temporary barriers out there. Fear mongering with no basis in actual data is.
  18. I like the idea of removing Shaker Blvd from the square and replacing it with some sort of walking path or paths. I also like switching to parallel parking and widening the sidewalks. Both of those would be wins imo.

  23. I don’t think you can definitively rule anything out. Is it going to happen in the short term? Absolutely not, I agree. But things (and public sentiment) can change rapidly. You can’t predict what’s going to happen in 2030. There are many positives to the idea and very few (but important yes) negatives, and because of that I do t believe the discussion is ever going to go away fully.
